High Up
Pairing: Keith/Lance Rating: Explicit Word-count: 3,127 words Summary: Getting high on the roof with his neighbor is something Lance just does. Creating stories for the people in the building across the street who don’t close their blinds at midnight? Also something he does. And it’s always hilarious - always without consequence - until they spot a couple getting it on and their dialogue for them gets a little out of hand. Additional Tags: city neighbors au, pot use, i guess voyeurism (but they can’t actually see anything too intense), friends to friends-with-benefits, first kiss, dry humping, klance are stupid together and then stupid together in a different way uwu

Hello there! I just started watching your youtube and I'm especially interest in how you make your games. Do you have any other tips for absolute beginners who are hoping to take a dive into programming by making their first game? thank you :)
Hey there!💕I get a lot of similar questions -

So I wrote a 19-minute long guide on how to make a game with 0 experience that teaches the 6 stages of game development -
Design 📝, art 🖌, coding 💻, audio 🎵, polish 🕹, and lastly, marketing 🎉:

gay book recs for these desperate times (they all need more rep so here I am)
The Last True Poets of the Sea Violet goes to visit her mom’s family home, the one she’s made memories with her brother in, in order to become less visible. To disappear from the flashy life that she led in New York—and all the guilt from her brother’s hospitalization. However, while humbling in the aquarium, she meets Orion. A beautiful boy who introduces her to Liv, the girl who wants to find the shipwreck Violet’s ancestor survived. While ships are being discovered, Violet also uncovers truth in her family and finds love. My opinion: Orion was adorable. Also I lived for the friend dynamic.
In Other Lands Elliot gets recruited into this magical land where harpies, mermaids, elves, and other magical creatures exist to go to school at a border camp. There’s two routes—Brains or Brawn. Elliot, being the avid anti-social boi he is, goes with brains. While getting situated, he meets Serene, the most beautiful elven girl he’s ever seen, who is a conqueror on the battle fields and in the books. With Serene, though, comes Luke. He’s perfect, which is exactly why Elliot hates him. If he wants Serene, though, he gets Luke, so the three of them fight (or in Elliot’s case, write treaties) their way to peace. It’s full of wit and sarcasm and getting love wrong and, maybe, getting love right. My opinion: I fucking love this book so, so much. I read it the other day and it’s definitely one of my favorites. 10/10
The Starless Sea Zachary Ezra Rawlins finds a book. A very strange, very old book that just so happens to be a hot-spot for a lot of very strange, (possibly) very old people. With a book and a target on his back, Zachary scavenges for the meaning of the book and somehow finds a whole world of books in the labyrinths along the shores of the Starless Sea. Along with the library, there’s Mirabell, a painter who’s life revolves around keeping the mystical place open; Dorian, a handsome storyteller who doesn’t like shoes; a whole world of stories that may have actually happened; and lots of cats. Navigating reality and fiction, Zachary looses himself in the Starless Sea, quite literally and figuratively. My Goddamn Opinion on This Masterpiece: well fuck. There’s a lot of story, but that’s kinda the point. It’s magical so read it asap.
They Both Die at the End Mateo and Rufus are both going to die. They’ve been called and told so, so they must make amends with death—or, with life. Having nobody to spring this on, Mateo turns to the Last Friends app. Having lost all the people he could turn to in one night, all because of his stupid mistake, Rufus turns to the Last Friends app. They find each other, less than 24 hours before their death’s, and decide that they should go out with a bang. Not a literal bang, though. That’s exactly what’s to be avoided. Teetering on the edge of truly living and stretching out their last day, Mateo and Rufus find friendship and so, so much more. My opinion: I read it last night. My heart is not there. It’s on a boat with pynch or snowbaz being happy. Fair warning, you will cry. Still sad. Rip me 2020
The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue Henry “Monty” Montague wants an adventure before his life begins. When his Grand Tour of Europe comes around, Monty makes the most of it. With his best friend and secret crush, Percy, and his annoying, little sister, Monty discovers Europe, what it’s like to live in some Not So Great conditions, and how to be a better person. You know what everyone says, eighteenth century Europe is a great place to fall in love and get chased down for being a douche. My Opinion: very glad for the character development, it was much needed. Book was pretty good. Don’t remember too much, except rlly loving it and reading it during an earthquake. Sorry if the description isn’t good, read it awhile ago.
The Song of Achilles The book follows Patroclus as he grows up. Beginning around where his father exiled him and ending with his burial. It goes through his relationship with Achilles, the star of the Trojan War, and their bond beyond that of friends. My Opinion: a lot of people loved this book. So many. It’s really good. A lot of people talked of how it made them cry n stuff. Shockingly, my baby ass didn’t really cry much. I loved the story, though. Don’t know what happened. (Read it tho, you won’t regret it.) (Also sorry it’s not much of a description, it’s just that I felt weird writing a description of it.)
Also the obvious ones that I won’t explain bc they’re popular enough: Carry On & Wayward Son; The Raven Cycle & The Dreamer Trilogy; All For the Game series; Red, White, & Royal Blue; Simon Vs the Homo Sapians Agenda; Six of Crows & Crooked Kingdom. (If you’ve liked any of these, you will most likely like the ones that I have descriptions of.)
i have not read the raven cycle but my best friends have and sometimes I overhear their conversations and it ??? sounds so ??? ¿¿¿ ??? what
like usually with other books you get a fairly good idea of the plot by listening to others talk about it but with trc the more i hear about it the more utterly confused i am

In which I share my Carry On headcanon
A’ight, since we’re all getting to know each other, here’s a missing scene from Carry On that I refuse to acknowledge only happened in my head. Think sometime after Baz agrees to Simon’s boyfriend proposal. (I’m rusty, so forgive me if this is a little sloppy. Also did I mention I used to write fanfic? No? Okay then…)
BAZ
My injured leg’s gone numb and prickly from my odd position on the bed, but it’s perfectly acceptable because Simon Snow is above me and gazing at me from under his flawless eyebrows. Gazing. Somehow, dozens of private fantasies have not prepared me for the breathtaking reality of locking eyes with Snow in a way that does not portend my imminent injury.
“For someone who doesn’t think, you look pensive,” I say.
He shrugs. “I’ve just sorted something out, is all.”
My eyes fixate on a small scar below his lip. I wonder if that was my fault. “Mm-hmm. And what’s that?”
“I was just thinking that… you’re alive,” he says, “and I can prove it to you.”
I groan. I wish he wouldn’t keep bringing this up. It’s depressing, and moreover, it’s disrupting my concentration. I’m busy trying to memorize the layout of Snow’s speckled skin from this close up.
“Another one of your experiments then, is it?” I sigh.
I feel Simon’s fingertips begin tugging at the buttons on my shirt. “Something like that.”
His hand slips under the fabric and comes to rest in the center of my chest. Impossibly, its warmth seems to radiate all the way down my arms and up into my cheeks.
For a split second, I wonder if Snow is about to light me up with his magic again, but then I feel his mouth on my neck, and suddenly another fantasy is neutralized for its inability to measure up to the real thing. I can’t help it - my eyes roll back as Snow’s kisses travel slowly down from my ear to my collar, and just like that, I understand what it’s like not to think.
Aleister. Crowley.
A long moment passes before I feel his lips pull away. “Now give me your hand,” he murmurs.
His hand falls away from my chest, finds mine, and presses it over my heart. I feel it racing, hammering away at my fingertips like a drum.
I open my eyes, and Simon is above me again wearing that shit-eating grin he puts on when he knows he’s won.
“See? Alive.”
Random Aesthetic Prompts
Diner coffee, sneakers against tiles, buzzing of a neon open sign, and red booth seats.
The feeling that something isn’t quite right, red glinted eyes, long claws tapping at the window, and the sound of chains dragging across the floor.
Leather jackets, band shirts, a roaring campfire, pitched tents, and a smooth singing voice.
Sitting in an empty room, confetti litters the floor, a birthday cake went untouched, and the sun slowly starting to set.
A dark theatre, ghostly apparitions flitting through the seats, the curtains rising, and a haunting violin melody.
Shimmering stained glass, the scent of vanilla from a lit candle, the sound of creaking wood being walked on, and shifting curtains.
Lanterns strung from branches, a large crowd flitting about, the smell of food drifting from stalls, and the sun setting after an eventful day.
Water drops on paved roads, colorful buildings under dark clouds, bright umbrellas bobbing along the street, and the smell of soon-to-bloom flowers.
Calling a Character by Their Title or an Epithet
Would you refer to your best friend as “the redhead” or “Kristen”? Is your favorite teacher “the teacher” or “Mr. Small”? An epithet is an adjective or descriptive phrase used to refer to a person. Referring to a character by a trait or their title is called an “amateur mistake” when used incorrectly, but “good perspective writing” when used well. What makes title of epithet a mistake is when it creates a sense of distance that doesn’t make sense given the narrator’s perspective.
These three sentences are written using different methods of reference, and the method is very telling of how the narrator perceives things.
The doctor waved to the nurse as she passed him in the hallway.
This reads as very impersonal, like the narrator doesn’t know either of these characters. This is the kind of sentence I’d expect from a narrator who just met those two people, or never met them and is just observing some hospital interaction.
Dr. Martinez waved to Nurse Merther as she passed him in the hallway.
Now the narrator is familiar with these characters, just not close enough to use a first name. Maybe they don’t know it, maybe they prefer to be professional with medical personnel, or perhaps they’re a colleague who doesn’t choose to socialize with either of those people.
Angela waved to David as she passed him in the hallway.
The narrator clearly knows these two people well enough to drop any formality at all. Perhaps the narrator is a close friend, a social colleague, or just a rude patient who somehow figured out all the names of the hospital staff.
The point is, the method of reference can show perspective and creates distance when used incorrectly. A narrator familiar with a character almost always uses the character’s name unless the situation is one where there is a power difference or there’s a good reason for it. You don’t think of your best friend as “the (hair color)” and wouldn’t refer to them like that, so you narrator isn’t going to do that to their best friend either. If they do, it often sounds odd and distances the reader.
Now, the line does get fuzzy when a narrator is omniscient 3rd person, but that still ties into the idea of perspective. How the narrator refers to someone shows what they think of the person. This can be used to show growing familiarity: perhaps “the doctor” becomes “Dr. Martinez” after a nice conversation, then becomes “Angela” when the narrator really gets to know her.
“Show, don’t tell” is often used to describe character action, but it applies just as much to perceptive. Instead of narrating how much someone likes their doctor, perhaps opt to use a less formal character reference in scenes. Consistent perspective is the mark of good writing and often a good story. Some writers use epithets or titles to avoid repetition in their writing, but it’s an incorrect use of impersonal character reference. Swapping out ways to refer to characters because you think your writing is repetitive has two outcomes:
The writing is fine and the pronoun/name use is a non-issue.
The writing is repetitive, and in that case you’re only creating a different problem by swapping pronouns and names for something else. The solution is to work on the repetitiveness of the writing rather than trying to patch it up with nicknames or other ways to refer to people. That “solution” is only creating an additional problem because the underlying writing is still repetitive and now your narrator suddenly seems to have forgotten their friend’s name.
Unnecessary use of titles, epithets, and monikers are a telltale sign of a novice writer. They don’t exist to “spice up” writing or fix an issue of repetitiveness– they’re for showing the reader how the narrator thinks of the character, the level of respect, and personal distance via word choice. Much like many aspects of improving at writing, learning why something is an issue is key to becoming more effective at the craft.
