Christian Witchcraft

Okay, I am not a christian witch, but rather an ex-christian who became a polytheistic witch. I know that christian witches sometimes aren't accepted in the witchy community, but yall are valid and your practice is valid, and my blog is a safe space for yall.

So for those of yall who do still want to practice christianity but also want to be a witch, this post may help you figure out just what that means, entails, and could help you find your way ❤️

(for those of you with religious trauma, feel free to skip right on past this)

Christian Witchcraft kind of sounds like an oxymoron at first glance, doesn't it? However, as we have said before, witchcraft is just a practice, it can be used in tandem with religion or be completely separate from it.

While the idea of Christian Witches may be highly debated in the witchcraft community, it is real and a valid form of practice. Considering all the flavors of magic, this lands firmly in the column of possibility

Like any other witchcraft practice that is paired with religion, you will have your practice overlap with your deity or deities of choice. This is no different for the Christian witches working with YHWH (Yahweh), or the holy trinity: The Father, The son (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit, and sometimes Asherah. That is their chosen Pantheon for their practice, just like other witches may work with the Hellenic Pantheon, or the Egyptian Pantheon.

Christian witches are not bound to just practicing "light" or positive magic, though most seem to go that route. Christian witches will practice both benefic and malefic magic, but that all depends on the practitioner. The Christian god is a god of war, so it makes sense that they could ask for help in spells that not only come to the defense of themselves or others, but to take offensive measures against those who may hurt them. Whichever path you want to take as a Christian Witch is all up to you. There is no right or wrong way to practice your own craft and your own religion, as long as you dont infringe on closed practices, go crazy with it!

Practices of a Christian Witch:

(pick and choose if you want, this is just what I have found)

Making Prayer candles for saints, archangels, Jesus, Mother Mary, or any other deific representation in Christianity

Calling on Christ to guide personal actions and reactions.

Petitioning the Holy Spirit for better understanding and cleansing.

Calling on Saints and Archangels for an appropriate need: like St Anthony to help recover a lost item, or wearing a St Michael medallion for protection.

Creating an altar for god and the holy trinity (optional) and giving offerings of a candle, olive oil, incense, salt, water, Frankincense, Myrrh, unleavened bread, honey, milk, goat meat or roasted meat, and other offerings you may see being given in the bible.

Use the Psalms for magic and spellwork.

Christian Witches may also…

Follow the wheel of the year calendar in addition to the christian holidays

observe lunar cycles and festivals

use blessed items to produce a charm or amulet

use astrology for improving one's awareness of fate, fortune, time, space, and energy

learn about the different properties of herbs and plants for spellwork and anything else that is traditionally "witchy".

But the Bible Condemns Witchcraft! Does it really? Let's look back at some things in the bible that can help remedy that.

Joseph had a cup for divination during his time in Egypt, and he used sand as divination as well to help the Pharoah.

Numbers 5:11-29 has a ‘test for an adulterous wife,’ which is a straight up potion. You can’t get around it.

Numerous passages specifically address the use of “casting lots”, which is absolutely a form of divination.

The book of Psalms is entirely a book of spells for various afflictions or needs (protection, cursing, healing, etc. Just take a look)

Even the specific word used to describe "witchcraft" isn't witchcraft at all. It was actually a word meant to describe a poisoner or someone who blends herbs to harm another person.

(i will always suggest doing some bible deconstruction and further research into context of the scripture, things that were changed to fit the narrative, different translations from Greek and Hebrew, and more to get a better understanding of the teachings and concepts that are taught in the bible)

More importantly, you don’t have to practice divination, mix potions or keep a grimoire to practice witchcraft, just like you don’t have to go to Sunday school to be a Christian. These things are merely elements of witchcraft.

A lot of the time in the church, we are told that we will have "gifts of the spirit" or something along that line (it's been well over 10 years since i have stepped foot in a church so excuse me lol). Visions, Hearing "the word", and Prophetic Dreams are the three heavy hitters here that I remember. The thing is, if these "gifts" aren't used outside of the traditionally christian scope, or we see spirits of the dead, or are able to see bad things before they happen, they are no longer gifts, but curses, brought on by (uncomfortable cringe) "Satan". Honestly, Satan isn't a bad guy, so he really can't be blamed for that. We have these gifts and they should be used in their full capacity.

If you have been told that your gifts are curses or they aren't "godly" or anything like that, maybe they are wrong. If you were born with or learned these abilities, then they were no mistake. Christians believe God doesn't make mistakes and that things happen for a reason. So you were given these gifts for a reason. Now it's just time to figure out what to do with them!

Another fun tidbit is that these gifts are CLAIR ABILITIES!!! Everyone has access to them, some senses may be stronger than others, but they are real things you can learn and practice to improve your life or get insight on the world around you.

ALL IN ALL… Christian witchcraft is entirely what you make it. This is your own craft and your own journey. You should do what feels right to you. Integrate God, Asherah, Archangels, Saints, Mother Mary, or The Holy Spirit into your craft. OR you can pick one, or a few, or all of them! There is no right or wrong answer here. I know Christians don't always work with or believe in Saints, but hey, if it works for you then it works for you! No shame there.
