The mandarin duck (Annera mandarin in the Balearic Islands) (Aix galericulata) is a species of anseriform bird in the Anatidae family native to China, Japan and Siberia. Endowed with vivid colors, it has been introduced to various parts of Europe and is highly appreciated for its beauty.
In this case it is a female and the difference in plumage is related to the ease of hiding during nesting.
