I wish the woolly chafer beetle was as big as a rabbit and I could have one as a pet

The Tingidae are a family of very small (0.08–0.39 in) insects in the order Hemiptera that are commonly referred to as lace bugs. This group is distributed worldwide with about 2,000 described species. 1. Azalea Lace Bug 2. Sycamore Lace Bug 3. Rhododendron Lace Bug, Hawthorn Lace Bug
old timelapse of a Mastigoproctus tohono excavating a burrow I started for her. I miss keeping vinegaroons, there’s really nothing quite like them… although I wouldn’t want to have this particular species again—a seasonal desert lifestyle means they spend much of the year inactive and not eating.

Thank you MBARI for the deep-sea footage!
With wasps it's like they grew up into moose.
I love insects where the juveniles eat meat and the adults drink nectar. Wasps with huge wicked sharp jaws and venomous stingers all to carry some spider back to its nest for its big soft wriggly babies to eat. She's going to go lazily drink nectar while they really go to town on it. So many fly larvae are voracious carnivores to be feared and avoided and then they turn into dopey flies that wander from flower to flower only stopping to lay eggs conspicuously close to a bunch of caterpillar eggs.

Weevils (such as Pachyrhynchus genera) have evolved epidermal cells that can produce colour through opal-like arrangements of packed spheres, forming a three-dimensional photonic crystalline structure.

Me with the cicadas right now.

I got to see some molting today while I was harassing them!
I didn't harass the molting/freshly molted ones too much, other than bending the branch down so I could get a closer look. I did not directly touch them (and was careful not to catapult them off when letting the branch go).
But also, SHELLS:

i highly recommend developing an intense interest in some natural phenomenon or creature such as bugs or stars or mushrooms. you will be delighted every time you go outside

Gary Kramer, 70, was lucky enough to capture a barren ground caribou shedding its velvet at Denali National Park, Alaska.
regular lobsters start out as just little lobsters but spiny lobsters start out as these beautiful weird larvae that also evolved to ride on top of jellyfish. This jellyfish is too small though!!!
