A/N: This broke me. Let's break together :')

Makima was looking down at the floor when she heard the news. Her yellow eyes were glued onto the dirty concrete, barely registering the now muddy and bloody shoes of Kishibe. She didn’t register the sight of smoke nearly clouding her image or the smell of marijuana invading her nostrils. All she could think about were the words escaping from his mouth, smooth like a bottle of vodka…
“The devil caught her off guard and sliced her down. I tried to get to it, but before I knew it, she was unrecognizable… The higher ups suggested I leave the body at the crime scene, so I did.” The older man blew out a long awaited puff of smoke into the air, watching it descentegrate slowly. “I send my regards to Y/N’s family. That’s it.”
Just like that, Kishibe had left. Just like that, everything had become unbearably silent. The colors of the world had dulled, slowly losing its life around the red haired woman. Just like that, you were here and then you were gone…
It felt like an eternity ago you were just with her. In her arms, warm and breathing. Your heart beating on top of her own and your laugh brightening her day. Your fingertips gracing over one another before interlocking hands so naturally. You were just breathing into her ear. Your skin was just being planted with the sweetest promises in the form of kisses.
So why were you gone? It made no sense to her- Makima always got what she wanted. No one could disobey her or leave her unless she pushed them to abandon her. It was always for the greater good, her needs- Not the other way around…
You… You couldn’t just leave like that. Not during a mission. You were to complete it thoroughly and return back to her with a few scratches she could patch up. You would tell her how your day was and how much you missed her. The two of you were supposed to be walking home together to her dogs, laughing at their affection and daydreaming of what tomorrow would bring…
Instead, she was here. Alone. Cold… The dogs wondered where you were and why when their owner returned home, she couldn’t even look them in their eyes. Makima was gone. This wasn’t her. This was an empty vessel of blood, tissue and bones that moved like a robot.
This vessel fed her dogs, cleaned her private home, watched television, completed paperwork, showered and washed her hands… She washed her hands… And kept. Washing her hands…
That day, you died. She wouldn’t forget that… Because you two shared one heartbeat.
When yours stopped, so did hers…
