your posts are not visible in search results by default, this is to prevent targeted harassment. if you want to change this, you can do so under Preferences > Public profile > Privacy and reach.
please remember that your handle includes the URL of the site that you're registered on! think of it like an email address but for social media. if somebody doesn't know where you're registered then they're not going to find you.
you can always switch to a new account and transfer your followers over if you want to. you'll need to set this up on both your old account and your new account; see Preferences > Account for more info.
remember that each site ("instance") is run by its own admin and staff team. this comes with its own benefits and its own downsides. if you're willing to put in the effort to choose where to make your account, please make sure that you trust the people running that particular instance.
