Calles de fuego es una película estrenada en 1984, sita en otro tiempo y lugar, bebe de las raíces de los años 1950 y los propios 1980. Era extravagante, con un reparto muy guapo (y algunas estrellas que salieron de ella) y la idea de que una fantasía callejera mezclada con música rock llevaría a los chicos a las calles a cambiar el mundo, o al menos a hacerlo algo más divertido.
Esas esperanzas que impregnaban la década de los 1980.
Y que curiosamente han llegado hasta hoy.
La sala de cine, con el mejor sonido Dolby del momento, esas imágenes y esa música poderosa, la belleza arrebatadora de sus dos protagonistas, los amigos buenos, el malo malísimo, la ropa de cuero, losa coches de los años 50, las motos, el juego de luces y la locura textil de la década de origen hicieron de este pastiche una película que ha permanecido en la memoria colectiva de todos lo que éramos adolescentes (o pre-adolescentes) en esa época maravillosa donde la música era un lazo de unión que no atragantaba todavía y donde las hombreras gobernaban el mundo (ojo, que ya están aquí) y el cardado y el corte de pelo asimétrico y los punks eran poco más que la representación del Inferno con su aspecto agresivo a la vez que tierno de animal herido y desubicado.
En contra de lo que se piensa, la década de los 80 no fue una época fácil, pero fue luminosa para la música, el cine, el arte en general, medios que hacían que la vida se aligerara y amansaba el espíritu roto de una juventud que enfrentaba la desgracia del paro de más del 25% y la peste de la heroína y del VIH como podía, generalmente escudados en sus walkman, sus cintas de 60, 90 y 120 minutos, sus Donkey-Kong, sus máquinas traga-perras llenas de Tetris y Pac-man y Marcianos y la eterna ilusión que ser joven era aquello, disfrutar de una buena canción, de una buena película, mientras bailaban con sus zapatillas Reebok blancas y los vaqueros arremangados en los tobillos, escapando del frío con cazadoras de jean repletas de chapas y los cuellos y las frentes con bandanas multicolores.
Después de más de 30 años todo sigue más o menos igual. Todo parece nuevo porque los ojos que ven la realidad no conocen lo que una vez hubo pasado. Se visten igual, están igual de perdidos, sus luchas se mezclan con la teatralidad del mundo, repleto de dirigentes ineptos que les ofrecen grotescos reflejos de sí mismos, y tienen sobre sí la losa de la sobre-información y de su accesibilidad; navegan en un mar de tendencias múltiples (ya no hay una creatividad uniforme que defina al siglo) sin puntos de anclaje, y deben enfrentarse a su meta de autodefinición en un terreno de arenas movedizas.
Pero no todo es malo. Son gente más abierta (no son perfectos), intentan ver lo que les rodea con naturalidad, que es un punto más allá de la aceptación; se enfrentan a problemas similares con el mismo espíritu hambriento (bueno, algo más atemperado, que el medio es menos hostil) y descubrirán lo que significa ser joven: atravesar el mar de la vida con las armas de las artes y de las ciencias y crear un mundo propio, inclusivo, abierto, único y por tanto irremplazable y perecedero. Descubrirán que ser joven es haber vivido y que todo queda atrás, a la espera que la siguiente generación atraviese sus calles de fuego en búsqueda de la ansiada felicidad. Una felicidad que es eso: vivir cada día como nos es regalado, con los dos pies en el presente y el corazón en la mirada.
