Building Up

Jimmy was fourteen when one of his experiments exploded in a ball of electricity, this led to his right arm being amputated in the hospital after it was discovered that something was working its way through his arm, slowly killing his nervous system.

Jimmy awoke to the shock and took it relatively well (he punched the bathroom mirror in his hospital room) and resolved to build a new arm. Over the course of three months, Jimmy, with the help of his father, designed and built a prototype bionic arm that read the signals from his brain, allowing the mechanical limb to move like a normal arm; Jimmy, however, was self-conscious about his new limb, often hiding it with his hoodie, but it allowed him to do normal things again, so he lived with it.

Over the next few months, Jimmy grew more comfortable with the fact he had a bionic limb, and rejoined his baseball team, the Model-A's, having learned to pitch left handed using a specially made glove that allowed him to pitch and catch with the same hand; by the time Jimmy was fifteen, he had gotten so good at pitching left handed he became the primary pitcher for the team, leading them to many victories with his odd ability to switch his pitches mid-throw.

I just learned that it's Disabilities Pride Month, so I drew Jimmy Stetson, one of my characters who is an amputee.
