Draco Deserved Better - Tumblr Posts
Funny how Draco showed more capacity for change in two books than Harry in seven.
Years from now, the last thing standing in the Harry Potter fandom will be Draco, Drarry and their enduring fans. Because that's what happens when you write something compelling, even if accidentally.
Drarry still in the top ten ships of all time on AO3, wish JKR could see this and know not only is she a worthless transphobe but that her only real fandom success was a story of gay love and redemption she didn't have the guts to tell

Amen. The logical conclusion was for Harry and Draco to reconcile Gryffindor and Slytherin. But JKR doesn't do logic, she does revenge fantasies and childish protagonist favouring.
Snape was given a chance but was reduced to being a Gryffindor worshiper, someone who should have been a Gryffindor and was remembered and honoured for his Gryffindor qualities.
The only good Slytherin is a dead Slytherin.
Eta: also, every good thing Snape did was to atone for the horrible things he did before he became a spy. The worst things Draco did (torture) were under coercion while Snape was happy to let a baby die. He's the reason someone's parents are dead. Snape stans are gone in the head to believe that man deserved anything more than a literal child who didn't know what he was getting into and then wanted out. Just completely mad.
Snape didn't truly love Lily, romantically or platonically. If he did he would spare a thought for her baby. What he felt was a reaction to someone finally showing him positive attention and then guilt.
Jkr can say all she wants that Snape wasn't a hero but the way she wrote it (which is what matters), Snape was lionized in the end.
reminder that draco malfoy deserved the redemption that snape got
Draco was the first Hogwarts kid Harry met and the only one who made an effort to socialize with Harry... without knowing he was speaking to Harry Potter. The others already knew, were fangirls, etc. And the wand... Harry meeting Draco again in the epilogue.
The irony of the things you can write while desperately trying to force force force others...
D'you even realise that Harry met Draco before he met Ron or Hermione or Neville I mean the first person his age he met in the wizarding world was Draco Malfoy I mean these two smol beans standing there getting fitted for robes I mean just so precious and then seven years later Harry uses that very boy’s wand to kill Voldemort wow
Draco was the first Hogwarts kid Harry met, separately from the others, and the only one who made an effort to socialize with Harry... without knowing he was speaking to Harry Potter. The others already knew, were fangirls, etc.
The irony of the things you can (accidentally!) write while desperately trying to force force force others...
I think it's time we introduce a new tag in Drarry fics: sectumsempra apologism. It'll serve as a warning for the people who'd rather avoid JKR levels of glorification of Harry (and bad writing) and it'll be especially useful in longer fics.
Yep. Drarry will never die.
tbh even if you dont like drarry you have to appreciate how well this part of the fandom keeps going and the amount of content is put out. there’s a new fest every week. some are so specific. i’ll be gone for a few days and i’ll log back on and suddenly be bombarded with submissions from Draco Fucks Harry On A Rainy Thursday Outside A Coffee Shop And A Pigeon Watches Fest.
Remembering that time when Draco was forced to Crucio someone and hated every minute of it while Harry willingly Crucio-ed a Death Eater because he spat on McGonagall and almost jizzed his pants about it. And yet Draco's character and dignity were completely trampled over while Harry was called gallant or whatever and put on a pedestal.
DRACO!!! (and that V shape 🫢)

Draco
This is amazing.

I have so many reasons why I think a thestral is the perfect patronus for Draco but if I talk about it it’ll be a 10 page essay
This is genius. A thestral as a patronus may sound contradictory at first but you know what's contradictory? Draco's Gemini ass and his Hawthorn wand.
Actually, I'll paste here what I found about hawthorn wands that suits a thestral patronus for Draco:
The wandmaker Gregorovitch wrote that hawthorn ‘makes a strange, contradictory wand, as full of paradoxes as the tree that gave it birth, whose leaves and blossoms heal, and yet whose cut branches smell of death.’ While I disagree with many of Gregorovitch’s conclusions, we concur about hawthorn wands, which are complex and intriguing in their natures, just like the owners who best suit them. Hawthorn wands may be particularly suited to healing magic, but they are also adept at curses, and I have generally observed that the hawthorn wand seems most at home with a conflicted nature, or with a witch or wizard passing through a period of turmoil.
(Also? A gentle being? Interesting you mention that considering Draco Malfoy has a Pisces Moon.)
(Also? #2: Draco has a lot of "badass potential", it's just unfortunate that it was never fully realised because the author decided to shit all over him and his fans and ruin her own story instead of going to therapy for her issues and letting the story and the characters unfold naturally. Still, said potential is visible in various parts.)

on draco malfoy's patronus being a thestral
I AM HERE TO ANSWER YOUR CALLS thestral may seem like a badass / very strange choice of a patronus for draco but I am here to explain WHY I think it should be draco’s patronus!!! I’d love to hear your thoughts / have people elaborate on my thoughts so feel free to!
First off, I feel like a lot of people brush off the idea of him having a thestral patronus because heck, why should draco malfoy of all people have a mythical creature? But that’s one of the reasons why i love it. We all know that draco would absolutely LOVE having a mythical patronus ( you know, being special ) but I stand strongly behind the idea that the ONE mythical patronus he would have never wanted is a thestral.
A patronus is suppose to be a representation of yourself, and why the hell would he like it if he had patronus that reminds him of the war? of him being a death eater? of what he had to do and what it ended up causing? it’s an irony i love to indulge in & think about. Rather than being stuck up and proud i personally think draco would have wished for anything else. I’m pretty sure draco would be the type who would pull a disgusted face if he saw a thestral rather than be happy by it. He wouldn’t want to show this patronus off. Like, can you imagine? Pansy pestering him to show her, “wow i bet it’s a fucking ferret, isn’t it”, and when she actually sees it everything goes to shit because of fucking course, draco malfoy out of all people would have a thestral patronus, that even the embodiement of his happiest memory and his soul would link back to the horrors of the war and what he’s done.
Thestrals as you all know are considered to be dangerous, omens of misfortune and only visible to those who have seen death. They are quite literally representative of death. It spells out /evil/ and /bad/ no matter how you look at how the world portrays them.
This is where I’m grateful for Luna Lovegood. We’ve all seen a different side to the thestrals in the films, with Luna stating that “they’re quite gentle, really, but people tend to avoid them because they’re a bit…different.” Thestrals externally look ghostly, grim with them being dark & skeletal all the way through ( this could be another reason why draco = thestral but i’m not making that connection LOL ) if we place in on a canon timeline, the only place where draco would /really/ be trying to conjure a patronus would be after the war, and keeping that in mind it makes a lot of sense. It’s not a big stretch to say that post-war draco became an image of the war, with him being a death eater. His past haunts him, with people only seeing into his image of a death eater without acknowledging him trying his best to redeem himself.
The whole idea of a thestral being a creature that is representive of death & misfortune but also having the ability to be a person’s patronus, basically the opposite of what a thestral is known for, is SUCH a good way of describing draco. The image of post-war draco malfoy is like the image of a thestral in a flowerfield, they stand out too much for their setting of peace despite them not doing anything but being themselves. People fear/hate thestrals and they can’t help it, just as people can’t help but slap “death eater” on draco.
BUT! despite their external appearances thestrals are gentle, extremely loyal…and cutting away at the war and everything else we know draco is loyal. He is so loyal to his family, and even if its /bad/ he wouldn’t hesitate to defend them even if it’s by taunting / mocking the person. He loves them, and this goes both ways - maybe it’s him being prideful of his blood heritage because of how he was raised, or maybe he truly really loves his family ( which i definitely think he goddamn does ). Thestrals can be representative of both, they are attracted to the smell of blood but will also become aggressive if they view someone as a threat to themselves, their friends or even their owner.
It makes sense that draco’s patronus would be a gentle, misunderstood being who sometimes does the wrong thing out of love, or fear, but for a reason that isn’t purely “ because i wanted to”. I just really like the idea of a thestral both symbolising draco’s deeper, hidden parts that he’s too scared to show to the world while also simultaneously being able to represent his life and what he experiences.
I also do think it’ll be a nice way to make draco get over the horrors of war and let go of his past and just live. Draco coming to terms with him having a thestral patronus would practically be him coming to terms with who he is and the mistakes he’s made.
And just to add onto everything above : draco was owner of the elder wand at a point ( thestral hair core ), and thinking about when he was the owner and what was happening at the time, i think everything works out nicely.
All in all i just think thestral is a really clever choice for draco, and clever just so happens to work perfectly for him.
EDIT: ALL THIS AND I FORGOT TO EVEN MENTION THE FACT THAT THESTRALS ARE CLEVER
Draco Malfoy has a Pisces Moon and ever since I found out I've been obsessed because it validates so many of my perceptions of him. It explains so much about him and his wasted potential. It just makes sense.

I wish people talked about this more (or at all).
Draco is a Black by blood. His mom is a Black. Harry is an impostor. But of course, everything must go to Harry, always.
Let me make something clear: Draco is the rightful Black heir, NOT HARRY POTTER.
I literally can't stand seeing Harry as the Black heir. As far as I'm concerned, Sirius Black was disowned and has no right to the Black inheritance. Funny how people like Sirius hate their families but have no problems inheriting the sweet family money!
As the last recognized male offspring of the Black line, Draco should be the rightful heir of the Black estate (and maybe the Lestrange estate if Rudolphus does not have any other male relatives).
Draco is more of a Black than Harry freaking Potter will ever be! And no one can tell me otherwise!
The sad thing is, the intention here is for us to agree with Hagrid and find what Draco went through funny and an appropriate punishment. In reality it was child abuse but somehow I'm not surprised that this ethically rather mean-spirited (if you know, you know) author would think otherwise and inflict her revenge fantasies on a fictional child instead of going to therapy.
As for Hagrid, that unqualified, incompetent moron should've never been hired as a professor of anything in the first place. He can't be trusted with children's safety.
“Yeh’ll do wha’yer told,” he growled, “or I’ll be takin’ a leaf outta Professor Moody’s book. ... I hear yeh made a good ferret, Malfoy.”
My love for these professors is really draining away, fast.
So, Moody changed Malfoy into a ferret. An action that is so beyond the pale against the rules Minerva drops her books in shock at what he’s doing.
And now Hagrid is mocking a 14 year old, threatening to do something that readers know he absolutely cannot do (both magic wise legally as well as in ability). The sheer audacity of threatening him with this, for refusing to do an assignment is obscene. Give him detention. Take points. Toss him out of class until he formally apologizes. Give him a zero for the day.
Hagrid threatens this in front of an entire class:
The Gryffindors roared with laughter. Malfoy flushed with anger but apparently the memory of Moody’s punishment was still sufficiently painful to stop him from retorting.
What kind of recourse does he get? Again. None. Draco Malfoy is an absolute brat, a bully, and often a little jerk. But I’ll always be on the child’s side when confronted with such unequal behavior by teachers in positions of authority over them. Hagrid repeatedly puts his students at risk he cannot or will not protect them from.
Even Harry, Ron, and Hermione say it was only a deep love for Hagrid that made them even consider trying to feed the skrewts. Hermione says they should be stamped out before they can breed. They share the exact same view as Draco Malfoy but will never say it aloud.
💕
This is haunting. I love the detail of his wand at the top.

“It is exceptionally lonely, being Draco Malfoy. I will always be suspected. There is no escaping the past.”

I love my son way too much continuing my hp series, here’s some Draco
Harry | Draco
Funny how Draco showed more capacity for change in two books than Harry in seven.
I just think… It looks like the Occlumency walls are the only thing that keeps Draco together after the war. Because after seeing the murders and torture of those whom you knew (and whom you did not know, but whom you did not consider an enemy in the depths of your soul), you simply cannot be the same. Seeing death is always hard, but it's on a completely different level in this case. Add to this the fact that he lived under the same roof with the madman himself. There was no "safe place" for Draco, neither at home nor at school. Nowhere.
And I think, unable to do anything and feeling guilty, every time he was present at such an event, he did not look away and did not close his eyes. He will be a witness, he will remember. "Their pain and death was not unnoticed, they were not alone, I was there, I saw, I remember. Everyone."
Or as I like to call it, Daddy Issues™.
