a rant about how i perceive the elevator hitch world + my headcanons (also about what is suggested to be protags childhood bedroom)
i see the work place as a place for non-humans (considering how the elevator is anything but normal and how some employees there are clearly not human.)
i’ve already mentally set up in my mind that protag is average height (5’9) and that everyone else is just super tall compared to him cause theyre none humans and its normal to be huge to them.
i think of coworker as a non human too, but has all the qualities of a human. cause i like to think he can walk in air like normal guy but protag cant cause hes a true human. i also like to think coworker was letting protag do all the work in the elevator to see if he’d be good for the job.
i say protag is probably poor too. got the job cause he needed to, i mean, why would u wanna work there after dying like 15 times and respawning? hes probably so desperate for a job. whatever the hell this job is probably doesnt need alot of qualifications.
now for the headcanons:
- coworkers 29 (he just gives off the vibe that hes been here for a while, dunno)
- protag is like 26
- a friend of mine mentioned how since protag was desperate for a job and is willing to take THIS, he probably didnt have that many jobs before this. i like to think its because he wasnt professional enough, not like super unprofessional but like not qualified enough (almost though)
just look at his face when hes asked if he needed this job, he knows hes not getting another one for a while
- coworker probably gets protag expensive gifts occasionally cause protag cant afford super comfortable work things and coworker feels annoyed with it even if its not him whos dealing with it cause hes so used to high quality, expensive things.
next up, the (protag’s?) bedroom
i wanna point out how protag knew he needed to make it quick/be quiet when the floors creeked. there was no sign of anyone there to hear it yet? there is a voice right after calling out for him though
the drawing under protags bed ↑, a drawing made by a kid and it includes a drawing of a boy with glasses. wonder who that could be (its probably protag.) ive seen people think those bunnies could resemble his parents.
also dialogue that implies its his bedroom (ill be writing it out cause i cant add more than 10 images in a post)
coworker is blue, protags red
“…!” as protag looks at the door
“Woah, Something up? You got all stiff and weird looking,”
“Nothing, it’s just- Was that door always there?”
“Not that I can remember, no.”
“Right- Must be getting deja vu, sorry.”
“What’s so familiar about it?”
“Reminds me of my old place-“

wonder why he’s scared of his parents hearing him, or why he hid everything he owned for some reason? (no kid with privacy feels the need to do that) and why’d he get no sleep either?
the obvious answer is that he probably had a bad childhood, but hey, im probably reaching but that doesnt mean i cant headcanon him with that or make up theories.
also his parents are shown as monsters, obviously. but i like to think of it 2 ways. maybe he wasnt able to sleep cause of nightmares (the bunny in his drawing being monsters in it) and the monsters out that door were in his dreams as a kid. OR its him seeing his parents as monsters (cause theyre bad people) in his own childish perception.
i also wanna point out how protag shivers when u click the cross. one of my friends suggested that it could be religious trauma, and he headcanons him with it.
oh yeah, headcanon protag has anxiety too. i mean, dude was so paranoid during his childhood. hiding everything he owned? trying to be quiet cause he’s scared his parents would hear him? theres definitely more things that havent been revealed to us yet about his childhood.
keep in mind that these are all personal headcanons/theories! none of these have been confirmed to be true. rachel prefers if we keep the canon separate from our own interpretations because she made the characters and they are very personal to her.
