YOU HAVE KNOWN NISHIMURA RIKI FOR AS LONG AS YOU COULD POSSIBLY REMEMBER.

from building sandcastles in the park to having sleepovers every weekend, your childhood was a tapestry of memories knit together with laughter, trust, the two of you were basically bonded for life.

it felt only natural when the both of you had realized the feelings of friendship had evolved into something deeper.

the transition from friends to lovers had been seamless and easy — or so you thought.

the first few weeks of dating were like your dreams come true.

every touch felt electric, every glance filled with unspoken words, you felt like the princesses you read about in your fairytale books and riki was your prince charming. — more under cut !

but recently, riki's behavior had changed.

he slowly became more disconnected with you, distant. his once bright eyes now clouded with something you couldn't quite put your finger on.

the texts that once buzzed your phone constantly had disappeared into thin air, and riki’s his usual warmth and radiant energy was replaced with a chilly indifference.

the anxiousness gnawed at you, each passing day a reminder of the growing distance between you two.

you replayed every interaction in your mind, searching for a clue, a reason for his changed behaviour.

one evening, as you laid on your bed, deep in your thoughts as you stared at the ceiling, you made a decision. you needed answers.

the next day, you met riki at your usual spot, a quiet park bench tucked away from the loud streets and protected from the world.

he arrived, hands shoved deep into his pockets, eyes avoiding yours. the sight of him, so close yet so far, made your heart even more jittery.

"riki, i think we need to talk," you said, voice trembling slightly with nervousness.

he looked at you then, surprise flickering across his face before he quickly masked it with that same look that was irking you for a while.

"sure, what’s up?"

taking a deep breath, you steadied yourself.

"do you...do you have romantic feelings for me still? it’s okay if not… i don’t want to force you to stay in a relationship you don’t want."

his reaction was immediate and telling. his eyes widened, and a flush crept up his neck to his cheeks. he stuttered, mouth opening and closing as if he was searching for the right words.

"w-what? y/n, why would you even ask that?"

"i don’t know riki, maybe because you've been acting so distant!"

you replied, voice cracking with all your masked emotions building up over the past few weeks.

"it's like you're not even here with me anymore, i miss my old riki."

riki's eyes wandered around, looking at everything but you, panic evident in his gaze.

he ran a hand through his hair, a nervous habit you knew all too well.

"i... i didn't mean to make you feel that way."

"then why? why are you pulling away from me?" you pleaded, tears of anger pooling up in your glossy eyes.

before you could process what was happening, riki closed the distance between you in one swift motion.

his hands cupped your face, and his lips crashed onto yours with an urgency that took your breath away.

the kiss was filled with intense, unspoken words filled with a desperate need that left you dizzy.

when he finally pulled back, you were left gasping for air, absolutely speechless and your heart pounding in your chest.

"does that answer your question?" he whispered, eyes wide with vulnerability.

you blinked, still reeling from the kiss.

"riki, i—"

but before you could finish, he stepped back, the flush on his cheeks deepening, his ears and neck turning the same shade.

"i-i have to go," he stammered, turning on his heel and practically running away from you.

you stood there, stunned and breathless, watching him retreat as you held back a giggle threatening to spill out.

the kiss had been passionate, over pouring with love but also overwhelming, it left you with more questions than answers.

why was love so hard for riki-kun?

YOU STIRRED AWAKE WITH A KNOWING DEEP SENSE OF DREAD.

the familiar, unwelcome ache in your abdomen signalled the start of a tough day.

as you rolled over in bed, clutching your stomach, you realize your period has arrived with a painful vengeance.

the cramps are more intense than usual, and the deadly mood swings are already making their presence known.

riki, your playful and loving boyfriend, was already up and about.

he poked his head into the bedroom with a bright grin, clearly in a great mood, not mixing well with your own. — more under cut !

"morning, sleepyhead! want some breakfast?"

his cheerfulness is usually contagious, but today, it grates on your nerves harshly.

you mustered up a weak smile and shook your head.

"no, ki. not today, sorry."

he pouts, but you can see the mischievous glint sparkling in his eyes.

"oh, come on. you need to eat something. how about pancakes? or waffles- i could even make some-"

"did you hear not hear me? i said no, riki,"

you snap, a bit harsher than intended. the pain and frustration coursing through your body getting the better of you.

riki's smile faltered.

"okay, okay, no need to bite my head off,"

he mutters, looking hurt. he turns away, muttering something under his breath.

the guilt of your actions hits you instantly, but the pain is relentless.

you grab your pain relievers from the bedside table and swallow a couple, hoping they'll kick in soon.

as you lie back down, you hear riki moving around in the living room, but you can't bring yourself to get up and apologize.

minutes pass, then an hour. the cramps show no sign of letting up, and the painkillers seem to be doing little to no help.

you hear riki's footsteps approaching again, and he peeks into the room, this time with a more grim expression.

"do you need anything?" he asks, his voice gentle and soft.

"just some peace and quiet," you mumble, turning away from him.

you couldn’t bear to look at him, knowing quite well you've hurt his feelings.

he doesn't say anything, just closes the door softly behind him.

you felt a pang of guilt again, but you're too exhausted to do anything about it.

you told yourself you’d apologize the next time he makes his way into the room, with a grin making its way onto your features thinking about your boyfriend.

you close your eyes, hoping to drift off to sleep and escape the pain for a little while.

suddenly, you hear the front door open and close.

you sat up, alarmed. did riki just leave? panic sat in quickly.

what if he left because you snapped at him?

the thought made your eyes well up with tears. you didn't mean to be so harsh; it was just the pain talking.

you curled up on the bed, hugging your knees to your chest, and let the tears flow.

you feel utterly miserable, both physically and emotionally. the cramps are bad, but the thought of riki being upset with you is even worse.

time passes slowly, each minute dragging on like an eternity. you hear the front door open again, and a wave of relief washes over you.

riki's back. but you're still crying, and you don't want him to see you like this.

the bedroom door creaks open, and riki steps in, carrying a large shopping bag. he freezes when he sees you crying, his face softening immediately.

"hey, hey, what's wrong?" he asks, rushing to your side worriedly.

"i... i thought you left because i snapped at you," you choke out between sobs.

riki looks at you with a mixture of confusion and concern.

"why would you think that? i just went to get something."

you look at him, your eyes red and puffy, making his heart break.

"because i was so mean to you, and then you just left."

he places the bag on the floor and sits beside you on the bed, pulling you into his arms gently.

"oh, baby, i'm so sorry. i didn't mean to make you feel that way." he gently strokes your hair, his touch soothing.

"you didn't," you whisper, sniffling.

"it's just... everything hurts, and i feel so bad for snapping at you."

he pulls back slightly, looking into your eyes.

"it's okay. i know you're in pain. i should have been more understanding."

he kisses your forehead, then reaches for the bag.

"i went to get you some things to make you feel better."

curiosity piqued, you peek into the bag as he pulls out various items.

there are your favorite pads, a selection of chocolates, a cute teddy bear, and a huge selection of your very own comfort foods.

your heart swelled with gratitude and love.

"ki, you didn't have to do all this," you say, your voice trembling, all a sudden feeling incredibly emotional.

he smiles softly.

"i wanted to. i hate seeing you in pain. i’d do anything to make you feel better."

you throw your arms around him, hugging him tightly.

"thank you. you're amazing."

he giggles, that familiar playful spark returning to his eyes.

"anything for my girl."

he kisses you again, this time on the lips, a sweet, lingering kiss that makes you forget about the pain for a moment.

for the rest of the day, riki stayed by your side, pampering you with affection and care.

he heats up a warm towel for your stomach, brings you snacks, and even puts on your favorite movies.

when the pain becomes too much, he holds you close, whispering soothing words and rubbing your back.

as the evening goes on, the pain starts to dull, and you feel a sense of comfort and peace.

riki's presence, his love and care, make all the difference.

you cuddle up to him on the couch, the teddy bear clutched in your arms, feeling safe and loved.

"thank you, riki," you murmur, your head resting on his shoulder.

he wraps an arm around you, pulling you closer.

"no need to thank me. i love you, and i'll always be here for you, no matter what."

“plus.. who else would deal with your mood swings?”

you smile at his words, finally feeling the day end as you close your eyes, snuggling into his warmth.

despite the rough beginning, the day has turned into one filled with love and tenderness, all thanks to riki.

and as you drift off to sleep, you know that no matter how bad things get, you'll always have riki to depend on.

GROWING UP, YOU HAD ALWAYS BEEN THE GOLDEN GIRL. — completely on the top of your all your classes, effortlessly charming, and admired by everyone at school.

heeseung, on the other hand, was the bad influence type boy with a magnetic allure that drew whispers and gazes wherever he went, even having his own fan club.

your paths had rarely crossed throughout all of high school until that fateful afternoon when you found yourself in the same detention room, sentenced to spend an hour together.

the moment you saw lee heeseung in the room, you knew it was going to be one long hour for you. — more under cut !

heeseung leaned against the wall, his expression unreadable as he watched you cautiously take a seat across from him.

"no way— if it isn’t our little golden girl, y/n!" he drawled, breaking the silence with a smirk.

"what trouble did you get yourself into, walking into class two seconds late?"

you shot him a playful glare, feeling a rush of adrenaline at his sudden proximity.

"maybe i just wanted to see what the bad boy was up to,"

you countered, with the boldness of your words, even surprising yourself as you muttered the words out.

his smirk widened into a grin, somehow resembling a cheshire cat as his eyes sparkled with amusement.

"curiosity killed the cat, you know."

but despite his teasing demeanor, there was a flicker of something in his eyes when he let out that genuine smile — a vulnerability that made your heart skip a beat.

and a smile you’re sure you haven’t seen in your four years of attending school together.

as the minutes passed, you surprisingly found yourselves sharing funny stories, telling jokes, and learning unexpected common ground about each other.

you quickly realized after that hour with lee heeseung, he wasn't just the bad boy; he was witty, perceptive, knee-slapping hilarious and somehow very kind beneath his tough exterior.

when the bell signaling the end of detention finally rang, you both hesitated, reluctant to part ways after bonding so well, you both felt a connection you just couldn’t ignore.

"same time tomorrow?" heeseung asked nervously, a hint of hope painting his tone.

you nodded, unable to suppress the smile that spread across your face.

"well, why not? but only if you promise to behave not to get into too much trouble before then."

heeseung chuckled, a deep, magical sound that sent shivers down your spine.

"deal."

over the following days, your secret meetings in detention became the highlight of your everyday routine.

you laughed together, quarrelled over dumb things, and slowly unraveled the layers of each other's personalities.

the golden girl and the bad boy— total opposites yet you two couldn’t possibly deny that you drawn to each other like magnets.

on a rainy afternoon, as you sat together in comfortable silence, heeseung turned to you with a deep look in his eyes that made your breath twitch.

"you know," he began softly,

"i used to think being the local delinquent was my only role in this world. but then i met you, and suddenly, everything feels… different."

your heart raced, literally feeling it pump in your chest as his words hung in the air, charged with unspoken thoughts and emotions.

without thinking, you reached out and intertwined your fingers with his, feeling the electric warmth of his touch against your skin.

heeseung's gaze softened at the sight as he let out a soft smile, his thumb gently tracing circles on the back of your hand.

"i don't want to be the bad boy anymore,"

he confessed, his voice barely above a whisper.

"not if it means i can't be with you."

in that very moment, the world around you faded away, leaving only the two of you and the strong intensity of your connection.

with a surge of courage and impulse, you leaned in, cupping his cheeks gently and pressed your lips to his, almost feeling like a silent confession, a promise.

heeseung responded eagerly, his kiss gentle yet filled with a passion that ignited a fire within you.

time seemed to stand still as you lost yourselves in each other, the feeling of your body’s pressed together and souls intertwined.

the weight of unspoken words and shared feelings finally making its way out in the sweetness of your embrace.

when you finally pull apart, breathless and cheeks flushed pink, heeseung leans in once again and smiles against your lips.

a smile that signified and spoke of newfound possibilities and a future together filled with sweet moments like this.

"i think i'm done being the bad boy," he murmured, his voice tinged with a certain softness and wonder.

“really?” you asked with a hint of amusement on your face.

"mmh, because with you, i’ve finally found something worth being good for."

you let out a soft grin as you leaned into his embrace once again, the rain tapping softly against the windows, the rain blocking out your intimacy and vulnerability you could only share with each other out from the rest of the world.

you knew that this— whatever it was between you, was just the beginning of a love story written in whispers and stolen kisses.

THE MORNING SUN SHINED THROUGH THE LACE CURTAINS, CASTING A SOFT GOLDEN GLOW ACROSS THE ROOM.

today is the day, the supposed happiest day of your life.

the day you marry park sunghoon, the love of your life.

your heart fluttered with a mix of excitement and nerves as you took a deep breath, trying your absolute best to steady yourself for the moments ahead.

the room buzzed with quiet and excitement filled chatter. friends and family moved in and out, offering words of encouragement and love.

you catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror—your reflection radiates happiness, a glow that seems to come from within, which anybody could probably see even miles away. — more under cut !

the delicate lace of your dress hugs your form perfectly, the intricate details a sign to the love and care that went into every stitch.

outside, the world is waking up to a perfect summer day.

the garden where the ceremony is to take place is adorned with flowers in full bloom, their vibrant colors a pleasing sight for the eyes.

the air is filled with the sweet scent of roses and lilies, mixing with the soft notes of the music playing in the background.

it’s a scene straight out of a fairytale, and you can hardly believe it’s real.

as you made your way to the garden, you catch the sight of sunghoon standing at the altar.

he looked breathtakingly handsome in his suit, his usual cool, laid back demeanor softened by the pure and vulnerable emotion in his eyes.

he turns as you approach, and the look on his face takes your breath away.

his eyes shine with a mix of love and awe, completely starstruck as if he’s seeing you for the first time.

the world seems to fade away as you walk down the aisle, your gaze locked with sunghoon’s.

the people around you seemed to fade away with each step you grew closer to sunghoon.

every step brings you closer to him, the distance between you shrinking with each heartbeat.

the music softly played in the background, the melody of “forever young” playing softly, a reminder of the timeless love you share, a reminder of each and every moment from your love story bringing you to this day.

when you finally reach him, he takes your hand, his touch warm and reassuring.

his eyes search yours, a silent promise passing between you.

this is the moment you’ve both dreamed of, the beginning of a forever together.

the officiant begins to speak, but their words are a blur.

all you can focus on is sunghoon, your sunghoon, your soon to be husband in a few seconds.

the way his thumb gently strokes the back of your hand, the warmth of his presence grounding you in this surreal moment.

you exchanged vows, your voices steady despite the tears that threatened to fall.

each word taking you back to the journey you’ve taken together, the love that has grown stronger with each passing day.

“i promise to love you, to cherish you, to stand by your side through every joy and every challenge,”

sunghoon says, his voice filled with emotion.

“you are my everything, and i vow to be yours forever.”

your heart swells with love as you repeat your vows, your voice trembling with the weight of the promises you’re making.

“i promise to love you, to support you, to be your partner in every adventure,”

you say, your eyes locked with his.

“you are my heart, my soul, my forever.”

when the officiant finally announces you as married, the world seems to burst into color.

sunghoon leans in, capturing your lips in a kiss that seals your vows, a kiss that speaks of all the love and dreams you’ve shared.

the cheers of your loved ones fill the air, but all you can focus on is the feeling of sunghoon’s lips on yours, the taste of forever.

the reception is a blur of laughter, pure joy, happiness, and celebration.

you and sunghoon move through the crowd, greeting your guests and sharing in the celebration.

the dance floor thrives, and you find yourselves swaying to the soft music playing in the background, your bodies moving in perfect harmony.

in this moment, everything feels perfect.

sunghoon’s arms wrapped around you, his breath warm against your ear as he whispers sweet words to you, love radiating off of him, the stars beginning to twinkle in the twilight sky—it’s a dream come true.

“i can’t believe we’re finally here,” you whisper, looking up at him.

he smiles, his eyes crinkling at the corners. “it feels like a dream,” he says.

“but it’s our reality. our forever.”

as you dance under the stars, the world fades away, leaving just the two of you in your perfect moment.

the melody plays on, a reminder in the back of your head of the love that will keep you forever young, forever in love.

THE HALLWAYS OF YOUR HIGHSCHOOL BUZZED WITH THE USUAL MORNING CHAOS.

students chatter excitedly, lockers slam shut, linked arms passing by, and teachers attempt to lead their classes.

you keep your head down, clutching your books to your chest as you navigated through the crowd.

as usual, you stuck close to your small group of trusted friends, though even with them, you often felt invisible.

you glance over to where yang jungwon, the handsome class president, is laughing with his friends.

he’s everything you’re not; confident, outgoing, loved and always surrounded by people. — more under cut !

you quickly look away, feeling a pang of envy mixed with admiration for the boy.

you can’t imagine someone like him would ever understand what it’s like to be you, quiet, shy, invisible and overlooked.

the day drags on, and by lunchtime, your spirits have now reached a new all-time low.

your friends have once again made plans that didn’t include you, leaving you to eat alone.

you find a quiet corner of the school, a small, dusty, rarely-used janitor's closet, and slipped inside.

as soon as the door closed shut, hiding you away from the rest of the school, you let the tears you've been holding back all morning flow freely.

lost in your shaky sobs and sorrow, you don't hear the door creak open.

"hey..are you okay?" a familiar voice asks, startling you.

you look up to see yang jungwon standing there, concern etched on his face.

you quickly wiped your tears in embarrassment, trying to compose yourself.

"i... i'm fine," you stammer, but the crack in your voice betrays you.

jungwon steps inside, closing the door behind him.

"you're clearly not fine, y/n. should i go get your friends?—"

panic surged through you at the thought of them seeing you like this, weak and vulnerable.

without thinking, you grab his arm and pull him further into the closet just as you hear the voices of your friends passing by, but not without hearing their next words.

“god- y/n’s so weird now, thank god we escaped before she could find us!”

“i know, i regret letting her become friends with us!”

“all she does is make the mood boring…”

that was your last straw, you pressed your face into his chest, shaking uncontrollably as you sob.

surprised but gentle, jungwon wraps his arms around you, offering silent comfort.

"what's wrong with them? aren’t they your best friends?" he asks softly, his voice soothing.

through your tears, you managed to explain.

"i'm always the one left out. they don't seem to like me anymore. i try so hard to fit in, but it feels like i don't matter to them."

jungwon's arms tighten around you protectively, feeling the need to protect you as anger coursed through his veins.

"that's not right," he says with a pout, anger simmering in his voice.

"you deserve better than that."

you sniffle, looking up at him with your red, glassy eyes.

"but i don't know what to do. i don't want to be alone ever again, you don’t know what its like.."

jungwon tilts your chin up, forcing you to meet his gaze.

"you don't need them, and you’re not alone" he says firmly.

"you could hang out with me and my friends. we’d love to have you."

a feeling of hope and disbelief welled up inside you.

"really? are you sure.. people don’t seem to like me, and i don’t wanna be a bother."

"really, i like you.. and you’d never be a bother"

jungwon confirmed with red flushed ears, a small smile playing on his lips.

"i've admired you from afar for a long time. i’ve wanted to approach you for a while, you're kind, smart, funny and stronger than you think, you just need to believe in yourself."

his words touch something deep within you, and for the first time in a long while, you feel a glimmer of confidence and self love.

"thank you, jungwon."

from that day forward, your life had begun to change. true to his word, jungwon introduces you to his friends, who welcome you with open arms.

they’re a lively, supportive group, and though it takes time, you slowly begin to open up to them.

jungwon is always by your side, encouraging you and making sure you never feel left out.

he becomes your closest confidant, and as weeks turn into months, your feelings for him deepen.

you laugh more, talk more, and gradually, the shy girl who once hid in the shadows had began to shine.

one summer afternoon, jungwon invites you for a walk in the park.

the sun had began to set, the sky fading into an orange-pink tone, and the air is filled with the scent of freshly cut grass and flowers.

as you walk together side by side, your hands brush, and he takes hold of yours, intertwining your fingers.

"i've been meaning to tell you something,"

jungwon says, stopping to look at you. his eyes are filled with a mixture of anxiousness and vulnerability.

"i really like you. i've liked you for a long time."

your heart races, and you feel a warmth spread through you.

"i like you too, jungwon," you confess, your voice barely above a whisper.

he smiles, a look of pure happiness and adoration on his face, and gently pulls you into his arms.

"will you be my girlfriend?"

he asks, the tip of his nose brushing against yours, his breath warm against your cheek.

"yes," you breathe, feeling a sense of joy and completeness you’ve never known.

and finally, jungwon places his lips on yours, it was like fireworks had gone off in your stomach, the kiss was gentle and soft as you wrapped your arms around jungwon’s neck, pulling him even closer. it was even better than the kisses you had read about in your books.

it was perfect.

as the months pass, your relationship with jungwon blossoms even more.

he continues to be your rock, always there to support and uplift you.

he’s there for you on your bad days too, the days where you feel invisible and helpless once again, and he is sure to always be there to remind you that you’re anything but invisible.

you grow closer to his friends, who become like a second family.

they understand you, they accept you, and they for sure love you just as much as you love them.

the pain of your past fades away, replaced by the warmth of genuine connections and the love you share with jungwon.

as you’re cuddled up together with jungwon on his couch, wrapped in a cozy soft blanket, he looks at you with a tenderness that takes your breath away.

"you know," he says softly,

"i'm so proud of you. you've come so far."

you smile, leaning into him. "i couldn't have done it without you, wonnie."

jungwon presses a kiss to your forehead as he let out a soft grin.

"we make a pretty good team, don’t we?"

you nod, feeling the truth of his words deep in your heart. together, you faced the challenges deep within you, found strength in each other, and created a beautiful, happy ending.

and as you drift off to sleep in his arms, you know that with jungwon by your side, you’ll never be alone again.

YOU HAD ALWAYS BEEN CLOSE WITH RIKI, THE YOUNGEST MEMBER OF YOUR BOYFRIENDS FRIEND GROUP.

his playful nature and youthful energy made him feel like the little brother you never had.

you enjoyed spending time with him, whether it was sharing inside jokes, playing video games, playing baseball together when jake was too tired, or even helping him with dance practice.

it was a sibling-like bond that brought you joy and comfort.

however, sunoo had been acting strangely lately. he seemed distant, often watching you and riki with an unreadable expression painted on his face.

one evening, after you had spent the day hanging out with riki, sunoo had finally reached his limit. — more under cut !

you found him sitting on the balcony, the cool night air ruffling his bright hair.

the stars twinkled above the two of you, but you could cut the tension in the air with a knife.

you took a deep breath and approached him, sensing that something was wrong.

"sunoo, can we talk?" you asked gently, taking a seat beside him.

he turned to you, his eyes filled with mixed feelings of hurt and irritation.

"do you really like spending time with riki that much?" he suddenly asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

the question caught you off guard, blinking twice in confusion.

"what do you mean?"

sunoo looked away, staring at the lit up moon.

"it just feels like... like you prefer being with him over me. i see how much fun you have together, and it makes me wonder if— if you even need me around."

your heart ached at his words, leaving a big pout on your face.

you reached out, placing a hand on his arm.

"baby, no, it's not like that at all. you got it all wrong!"

he finally looked at you with his visibly hurt expression, his eyes searching yours for reassurance.

"then what is it? why do you spend so much time with him?"

you took a deep breath, wanting to choose your words carefully.

"riki reminds me of the little brother i never had growing up. i love spending time with him because he brings out a side of me that i never got to experience. it's like having a sibling i can care for and have fun with."

sunoo's expression softened, and he seemed to relax his tense figure a little.

"wait— so, it's not because... you like him more than me?"

you shook your head, squeezing his arm gently.

"not at all. my bond with riki is different. it's special in its own way, but it doesn't compare to what i have with you. you're the one i love, sunoo. i cherish every single moment we have together."

he sighed, his shoulders dropping as the tension left his body.

"i'm sorry for feeling this way. i guess i just got insecure. i should have trusted you."

you leaned in, pressing a soft kiss to his cheek.

"it's okay to feel that way sometimes. i'm glad you told me. we should always talk about how we feel."

sunoo let out a soft giggle, the sound warming up your heart at the hint of his usual brightness returning.

"thank you for understanding. and for being honest with me."

you rested your head on his shoulder, feeling a sense of peace settle between the two of you.

"always. i love you, sunoo."

"i love you too, so much." he whispered.

the rest of the night consisted of being wrapped in sunoo’s arms holding you as you both watched the stars twinkle in the night sky, no problems in this very moment.

everything was going to be just fine.

for @bywons’s on our love event ! ‹𝟹

 . !

THE SOFT HUM OF CHATTER AND THE GENTLE RUSTLING OF PAPERS FILLED THE CLASSROOM AS YOU SETTLED INTO YOUR SEAT, trying your best to look occupied.

you had spent almost two years harboring a secret crush on nishimura riki.

he was the effortlessly cool, funny and incredibly kind boy who always seemed to catch your eye.

he was everything you admired; confident, talented, and strikingly handsome.

the only problem was that you had never spoken to him in those two years other than probably eight words? — more under cut !

your friends often teased you about your obvious infatuation.

every time riki walked by or glanced in your direction, your heart would race, and your cheeks would flush a deep shade of red.

you couldn't help but steal glances at him, and more often than not, you found him looking back at you, a curious expression on his face.

today was no different. as you sat pretending to read, you felt his eyes on you.

you looked up, meeting his gaze for a brief moment before quickly looking away, your face burning. he caught you again!

this was becoming a pattern, and you could tell he was starting to find it amusing. his soft chuckle and the way his eyes crinkled at the corners made your heart skip a beat.

riki had noticed you a while ago. at first, he found it odd that you were always looking at him, but as time went on, he started to find it endearing.

there was something about your shy demeanor and the way you blushed whenever he caught you staring that he found incredibly cute and endearing.

it didn't take long for him to develop a crush on you, but every time he tried to approach you, you would get so flustered that you'd hiccup and then run away like a damsel in distress.

it was after one of these encounters, where you had practically sprinted out of the classroom after riki had simply said "hi," that he began to doubt himself.

maybe you didn't like him at all. maybe you were just being polite, and he had misinterpreted your shyness for something more.

the thought made his heart ache, and he started avoiding you, thinking it would be best to spare both of you the awkwardness.

days turned into weeks, and you noticed riki's absence quite quickly. he no longer looked your way, no longer smiled at you from across the room.

the realization that he lost interest in you because of your shy demeanour and the fact that you can’t speak a few words to him hurt more than you cared to admit.

your friends noticed your growing sadness and decided to take matters into their own hands.

"y/n, you need to do something,"

your best friend, eunchae, said one afternoon as you all sat in the cafeteria.

"you can't just let this go on forever. you like him, and he clearly liked you too before you kept running away."

"but what if he doesn't like me anymore?" you asked, your voice small.

"he does," eunchae insisted.

"trust me. you just need to show him how you feel. write him a letter or something. leave it on his desk."

you bit your lip, considering her suggestion. the thought of writing down your feelings and leaving it for riki to find made your heart pound with a mix of fear and excitement.

after much encouragement from your friends, you finally agreed.

that night, you sat at your desk, the blank page in front of you feeling like the most intimidating thing in the world.

after several false starts and a lot of crumpled paper, you finally managed to write a letter that you felt conveyed your feelings without being too over the top.

dear riki,

i don't know if you've noticed, but i've liked you for a long time. almost two years now. i know i get super shy and always run away whenever you try to talk to me, but it's just because i get so nervous around you. you're amazing, and i didn't want to make a fool of myself.

i'm sorry if i made you think i don't like you. i really do, i just didn't know how to show it.

i really hope you feel the same,

with love, y/n.

the next day, with trembling hands, you slipped the letter onto riki's desk before class started and quickly took your seat, your heart racing.

throughout the day, you couldn't concentrate, your mind occupied with thoughts of how riki would react.

would he laugh? would he be angry? would he ignore you completely?

when the final bell rang, you gathered your things and left the classroom, your steps slow and hesitant.

you were almost at the school gate when you heard someone calling your name.

turning around, you saw riki jogging towards you, holding the letter in his hand.

"y/n, wait!" he called out, his expression serious yet hopeful.

you froze, your heart in your throat as he reached you.

"r-riki, i..."

"come with me," he interrupted, gently taking your hand and leading you back into the school.

you followed him, your mind racing with endless possibilities.

he led you up to the rooftop, a place you often went to when you needed to think.

it was quiet and peaceful, with a beautiful view of the city.

once you were there, riki turned to face you, still holding your hand. "i read your letter," he said softly.

you swallowed hard, unable to meet his gaze out of the cheesy words you had written.

"i'm sorry if it was weird. i just... i didn't know how else to tell you."

riki let out a small laugh, shaking his head.

"it's not weird, y/n. it's actually really sweet. and it made me realize something."

you finally looked up at him, confusion and hope pooling in your eyes.

"what do you mean?"

riki took a deep breath, his thumb gently caressing the back of your hand shyly.

"i like you too, y/n. i have for a while now. i thought you didn't like me because you always ran away, but now i understand why."

your eyes widened in surprise.

"you... you do?"

riki nodded, his expression sincere.

"yeah, i do. and i'm really glad you wrote me that letter. it gave me the courage to tell you how i feel."

tears of relief and happiness welled up in your eyes.

"i was so scared you'd hate me."

"how could i hate you?" riki said softly, stepping closer.

"you're amazing, y/n. and i'm really happy we can finally be honest with each other."

before you could respond, riki leaned in and kissed you, his lips soft and gentle against yours.

the kiss was sweet and warm, filled with all the emotions you had both kept bottled up for so long.

when he finally pulled away, you were both smiling, the weight of your unspoken feelings lifted of your shoulders.

riki took your hand again, intertwining his fingers with yours.

"so, what do you say we start over? hi, i'm riki."

you laughed, your heart soaring in love.

"hi, i'm y/n. nice to meet you."

he grinned, his eyes sparkling with happiness.

"nice to meet you too. now, let's get out of here. we've got a lot of catching up to do!"

with your hand in his, you left the rooftop, your heart lighter than it had been in years.

it had taken almost two years of shy glances and unspoken feelings, but you had finally found the courage to open up to riki.

as you walked out of the school together, you knew that this was just the beginning of something beautiful.

YOU REMEMBER THE DAY YOU MARRIED SUNGHOON AS IF IT WERE YESTERDAY.

the details remain vivid, etched in the fabric of your memory like an old, worn photograph.

the way the sun peeked its way in through the stained glass windows of the small chapel, casting rainbow hues across the guests.

his smile, brighter than any light, his eyes holding a promise of forever.

forever.

how naive you were to believe in such a concept, to think that love could somehow outlast the ways of life.

you stand in your shared bedroom, now eerily quiet, the echoes of his laughter still lingering in the corners. — more under cut !

the room is untouched, preserved in time, much like your heart.

you haven’t moved anything since that day. his clothes still hang in the closet, his scent faint but undeniably there, clinging to the fabric.

it was supposed to be a day filled with joy, but it ended in the cruelest twist of fate.

you were on your way to the reception when the accident happened. a drunk driver, they said.

it’s funny really, how one moment could change the forever that was in store for you.

his life was stolen from you in an instant, leaving you shattered and broken, right where you stood.

you’ve replayed the moment in your mind countless times, the sound of screeching tires, the sudden, sickening crunch of metal against metal.

the world turned to chaos around the two of you, but all you could focus on was sunghoon, his hand slipping from yours, the light in his eyes fading.

the hospital room was cold, sterile. you held his hand, refusing to let go even as the machines around you beeped in a heart-wrenching symphony.

he tried to speak, his voice barely a whisper, but you shushed him, tears streaming down your face.

he didn’t need to say anything. you knew. you always knew.

“i love you,” you whispered, your voice breaking.

“i love you so much,” he managed to whisper with a gut-wrenching smile, his grip on your hand weakening. and then, he was gone.

the days and weeks that followed blurred into a haze of sorrow and pain.

people came and went, offering condolences, their words hollow and meaningless to you.

every single one of their words felt like salt to an open wound.

you were stuck in that moment, frozen and unable to move forward.

you stopped going outside, stopped answering calls. the world continued to spin, but you were frozen in place, right where he left you.

you found solace in your memories, an escape from reality, replaying the moments you shared, the love that once felt infinite and indestructible.

your home became a place full of memories, the two of you had expected to make new ones, not to be left with them.

every object was a relic of a life that could have been. his favorite mug sits on the kitchen counter, a half-read book on the nightstand, his jacket draped over the chair.

you can’t bring yourself to touch them, to disturb the delicate balance of the past and present.

nights are the hardest. the bed feels cold and empty without him.

you curl up on his side, clutching his pillow, seeking comfort in the lingering scent of him.

you talk to him, as if he’s still there, telling him about your day, about how much you miss him.

sometimes, you swear you can hear his voice, a soft whisper in the dark, reassuring you that he’s still with you, somehow.

you visit his grave everyday, bringing fresh flowers and sitting beside him, talking about everything and nothing, basking in the silence.

the world moves on around you, but you remain anchored in that place, in that moment.

one day, as you sit by his grave, a light breeze rustles the leaves, carrying with it a sense of calm.

you close your eyes, letting the wind wrap around you like a comforting embrace.

“i’m right here, hoon.” you whisper, tears streaming down your face.

“right where you left me.”

and for a moment, just a moment, you feel him beside you, his presence as real as the ground beneath you.

it’s enough to keep you going, to remind you that love, in its truest form, never really leaves.

you’ll be okay, you tell yourself, because even though he’s gone, a part of him will always be with you, right where you left him.

THE DIM GLOW FROM THE COMPUTER SCREEN SPILT INTO THE LIVING ROOM, CASTING A SOFT LIGHT ON THE DARK SPACE.

you sat on the edge of the couch, blinking harshly as you felt your eyes fluttering from the exhaustion after a long day at work.

you were watching your boyfriend jake as he had once again streamed to his growing audience.

his laughter filled the room, mixing with the sounds of the newest video game he's been playing.

but lately, it has been starting to feel like jake spends more time with his online community than with you.

the streaming schedule that once seemed manageable has become a time-consuming routine, stealing your boyfriend from you and leaving little time for anything else. — more under cut !

you miss the late-night talks, the movie nights you spent cuddled up together, and the simple joy of just being together.

"jakey," you call softly, hoping not to disturb him too much.

"it's getting late now baby, why don't you come to bed?"

he doesn't even turn around to spare you a glance, making you rub your forehead in irritation.

“hello? jake, i’m talking to you!”

“i can't right now, babe. i have to stream."

"but you’ve been at it for hours," you insist, your voice tinged with frustration.

"can’t you take a break? i need you..”

suddenly, he snapped in annoyance at your nagging.

"you're being clingy! i have to do this. it's my job, i need to provide for us y/n, go sleep."

the harshness of his words stung much more than you expected.

feeling hurt and rejected, you retreat back to the bedroom, where you had been sleeping alone for the past few weeks.

your heart was heavy with disappointment as you laid down into the bed, the distant sound of his voice serving you a painful reminder of how distant he had been recently.

days turn into weeks, and you found yourself avoiding him. you leave for work early, come home late, and spend as much time away from the apartment as possible.

you didn’t want to hear another excuse about why his streams are more important than you.

the emotional distance between you grew wider with each passing day.

one day, after an especially draining day at work, everything falls apart.

a project you had poured your heart into for months had gotten rejected, and a colleague you considered a friend betrayed your trust.

by the time you get home, you’re already on the verge of tears. you open the door to find jake sitting on the couch, a rare sight these days.

"hey baby! you’re finally home." he exclaims, his face lighting up with a smile, running to you with excitement.

"i haven't seen you in forever. how was your day? you don’t look too good.."

the concern in his voice is the final straw, your self control breaks and you burst into tears, sobbing uncontrollably.

jake rushed to your side immediately, his arms wrapping around you in an embrace that feels both foreign and familiar.

"what's wrong?" he asks, his voice filled with genuine worry.

but his touch only makes you cry harder.

"it's not just today," you manage to choke out.

"it's everything. i feel so alone, jake. all you ever do is ignore me, it's like i'm invisible to you."

“you don’t even sleep with me anymore, you sleep when i leave for work, and when i’m back you’re always streaming! did you even notice that i’ve been trying to avoid you?”

jake’s face fell in realization and suddenly, he pulls you closer, his heart breaking at your words.

"i'm so sorry," he whispers, his voice trembling.

"baby, i swear i never meant to make you feel that way."

you were angry, but you needed jake desperately.

you clung to him, your sobs quieting as he holds you, feeling his own tears dampening the nape of your neck.

"i miss you so much, jakey" you say, your voice barely above a whisper.

"i miss us."

jake presses a kiss to your forehead, his tears mixing with yours.

"i've been so stressed lately," he admits looking down.

"my payments have been getting cut, and i was trying to save up to buy you the car you’ve always wanted. i wanted to surprise you, but i ended up pushing you away instead— i’m so fucking sorry."

you pull back slightly with shock etched onto your features, looking into his eyes.

"a car? that’s so sweet of you jake, but i don't need that. i just need you, my boyfriend..”

he nods, his eyes filled with regret.

"i know. i see that now. i was so focused on trying to make things better for us that i didn't realize i was losing you in the process."

“you didn’t lose me, silly boy.” you joked as you left a soft peck on his pouted lips.

jake finally lets out a soft grin as he kisses you again, and it's like a balm to your wounded heart.

"i'm so sorry," he repeats, his voice breaking.

"i love you so much. please, let me make it up to you."

you nod, tears of relief still streaming down your face.

"i love you too. i just... i need you to be here. with me."

jake suddenly scoops you into his arms as you let out a screech— carrying you to the bedroom.

he lays you down gently, then climbs in beside you, pulling you into his embrace.

"i'm here now, baby" he whispers, his lips brushing against your temple.

"i'm not going anywhere."

you snuggle into his chest, feeling the steady beat of his heart against your ear.

the warmth of his body, the softness of his touch, and the sincerity in his voice begin to soothe the ache inside you.

"i missed being in your arms so much," you admit, your voice muffled against his shirt.

"me too," jake says softly as he looked down at you with adoration.

"i promise, i'll do better. no more neglecting you for streams. you're the most important thing in my life."

you tilt your head up to meet his gaze, your eyes searching his for any hint of insincerity — but all you see is love and regret.

he leans down, capturing your lips in a gentle kiss that speaks volumes of love and promises.

for the rest of the remaining evening, you stay wrapped in each other's arms, sharing kisses and whispers of love and reassurance.

the hurt of the neglect began to fade, replaced by the rekindled warmth of your love.

as you drift off to sleep in jake’s arms, you feel a sense of peace you haven't felt in a long time.

jake's arms around you are a silent promise that things will be just fine, that he will always be there for you, and that your love is stronger than anything else life throws your way.

THE STERILE SCENT OF THE ANTISEPTIC FILLED THE AIR AS YOU SCRUBBED IN FOR ANOTHER GRUELING AND TIRESOME SURGERY.

as a cardiothoracic surgeon at one of the top hospitals in the country, you were used to the high-pressure environment.

however, one thing you could never get used to was working alongside lee heeseung.

heeseung, with his sharp intellect and even sharper tongue, and his annoyingly angelic face— contrasting to his devilish personality was your professional rival.

as much as you hated to admit— he was as brilliant as he was infuriating, and every time your paths crossed, sparks flew—mostly in the form of heated arguments.

today was no different. you glanced at heeseung through the glass of the scrub room, noticing the way his jaw tightened as he prepared for the surgery. — more under cut !

he caught your eye and held your gaze for a moment longer than necessary with a small grin before it faded into a cocky smirk looking away, a silent challenge lingering in the air.

as you walked into the room, you felt yourself immediately grow agitated already at heeseung’s words.

“are you sure you should be near this patient, it would be a shame to put him at risk because of some dumbass with no surgical skills whatsoever..” he finished as the nurses around you sighed at the bickering to come.

“come on lee, you’re annoying everyone in the damn room. shut your pretty mouth and put those hands to use.”

“oh i know how to put these hands to use alright—“

“oh my fucking god, lee heeseun—“

before you could rebuttal, the nurse interrupted.

“um— the patient is under now.. could you do your job and talk about ‘putting those hands to use’ later?”

you winced at how informally you were talking in front of the nurses— lee heeseung sure does bring out the worst in you, alright.

“right… I’m sorry everyone!”

as the surgery began, you fell into the familiar rhythm, focusing on the delicate sutures and balance required to save a life.

the patient, a middle-aged man with severe coronary artery disease, was in an extreme critical condition.

every move had to be precise, every decision planned and flawless.

despite the tension between you and heeseung, both you and heeseung were professionals, completely focused on the task at hand.

the surgery proceeded smoothly until a complication arose—an unexpected tear in the arterial wall.

"we need to act fast," you said, your voice steady despite the panic and urgency.

"i know," heeseung replied tensely. "suction, now!"

you worked in quiet, the room silent except for the beeping of monitors and the soft clink of instruments.

finally, after what felt like an eternity, the crisis was under control, and the patient's condition stabilized.

as you stepped back, heeseung's eyes met yours again.

"good work," he said, but there was no warmth in his tone, only a grudging edge.

he was usually in a positive mood after a surgery had finished, but today something different— cold, almost angry sparked in his bambi eyes, leaving you in a sour mood.

the surgery had taken its toll, and you were completely exhausted.

you headed to the break room, hoping for even a small moment of peace with your growing headache, but heeseung followed you.

you could feel his eyes boring into your back as you poured yourself a cup of coffee.

"do you ever think before you act?" he snapped, breaking the silence.

you turned to face him, frowning at his accusatory tone.

"what are you on about now, lee?"

"if you hadn't hesitated, maybe we wouldn't have had that complication," he said, his words like a slap to the face.

you felt your blood boil. "are you seriously blaming me for that? we both know it was an unpredictable complication."

heeseung's eyes flashed with anger. "maybe if you paid more attention to the patient's history, you would have anticipated it."

“are you kidding me, heeseung? please, i can’t do this today—“

unfortunately, heeseung failed to notice the trembling in your voice and continued the growing argument.

“you can’t do this today? be so serious y/n, that man almost died today— you almost killed that man!”

the argument escalated quickly, voices rising as accusations flew back and forth.

finally, heeseung said something that cut deeper than any scalpel.

"maybe if you were more competent, our patient wouldn't have been at such risk of death because of you and you only!."

the room fell silent. his words hung in the air, heavy and unforgivable.

you felt your throat tighten, tears threatening to spill. without another word, you turned and walked out, leaving heeseung standing there, a look of shock and regret on his face.

days passed, and you avoided heeseung like the plague.

you switched shifts, took your breaks at odd times, and even walked the long way around the hospital to avoid running into him.

you knew it was petty— but you couldn't help it.

his words had hurt more than you wanted to admit.

heeseung, for his part, seemed increasingly frustrated. you could see him out of the corner of your eye, his gaze following you whenever you were in the same room.

he tried to approach you several times, but you always found a way to slip away before he could say anything.

your colleagues noticed the growing tension and ultimately decided on avoiding the two of you in the same room altogether.

it wasn't until you found yourself alone in the on-call room that heeseung had finally managed to corner you.

you were resting on the stiff bunk bed, trying to catch a few minutes of sleep when the door swung open.

to your surprise— heeseung stood in the doorway, his expression a mix of determination and desperation.

“oh, you’ve got to be kidding me—“

"we need to talk, y/n.." he said, closing the door behind him.

you sat up, crossing your arms defensively.

"there's nothing to talk about."

"yes, there is," he insisted, stepping closer.

"look— i didn't mean what i said the other day. i was angry and tired, and i took it out on you. it wasn't fair, and i'm sorry."

you looked away, the hurt still fresh. "you can't just say something like that and expect everything to be okay."

heeseung sighed, running a hand through his hair.

"i know. and i don't expect you to forgive me right away. but it hurts when you ignore me. we work together, and i... i can't stand the thought of you hating me."

you felt a pang of sympathy despite yourself.

"heeseung, it's not that easy. you really hurt me this time."

"i know," he said softly.

"and i'd do anything to make it right. even if it means losing all my dignity saying this."

you couldn't help it—a small giggle escaped your lips.

the idea of the usually stoic heeseung talking about losing his dignity was too much.

heeseung's eyes lit up at the sound, and a soft smile spread across his face.

"there it is," he said gently.

"that's the smile i've missed."

you shook your head, still smiling.

"you're impossible, lee heeseung."

heeseung took a step closer, his expression earnest.

"i mean it. i'm really sorry. can we.. start over?"

you hesitated for a moment, then nodded.

"okay lee. but you owe me."

heeseung grinned. "anything you want. just name it."

"how about a date?" you suggested, your eyes widened, surprising yourself with your boldness.

heeseung's eyes widened in surprise, then softened. "a date? i'd like that."

he reached out, his hand brushing against yours. the touch was warm, comforting.

slowly, he leaned in, his lips nearly touching yours as he looked into your eyes with a gentleness.

“can i…”

“get on with it already, heeseung—“

suddenly his lips crashed against yours, meeting yours in a soft, delicate kiss.

it was gentle, feeling all the unspoken words and feelings from all these years of working together, bickering and the childish arguments.

when you finally pulled away, heeseung was smiling.

"so, about that date... when are you free?"

you giggled, the tension between you finally broken.

"how about tonight after our shift ends?"

"it's a date," he said, his eyes sparkling with genuine happiness and adoration.

as you left the on-call room together, you couldn't help but feel that maybe, just maybe, things would be different from now on.

THE HALLWAYS OF YOUR HIGHSCHOOL WERE ALWAYS OVERCROWDED AND LOUD BUSTLING WITH ENERGY AND THE STUDENTS,

but you and sunghoon managed to carve out your own little world amidst the chaos.

he was the pride of the school, star athlete and heartthrob, always at the center of attention, yet he only had eyes for you.

your relationship was the cause of envy for many – a love story quite literally straight out of a fairy tale.

you remember the first time he asked you out, how could you ever forget? it was during a study session in the library, right before the exams, his face turning a bright red as if he were a tomato!

he stammered out the words. you had laughed, thinking it was a joke, but the determined look in his eyes made your heart skip a beat.

and from that moment, you were inseparable, but little did you know what was yet to come. — more under cut !

your dates were simple, yet memorable.

park sunghoon came from a rich family, and you had grown up very differently.

while he grew up with a silver spoon in his mouth, you grew up quite the opposite, with absent parents and older siblings who quickly left home when the chance came.

but to your surprise, he wasn’t bratty or spoiled, he wasn’t disgusted with your lifestyle or class.

instead, he learned the ways of how you live your life.

to you park sunghoon was the most humble man you had met. he didn’t take you out to five-star michelin restaurants, instead your dates consisted of being sat in his bmw in the mcdonald’s drive through, munching on greasy fries and cheese burgers.

everything was absolutely perfect.

late-night walks in the park, holding hands under the glowing stars, shared popsicle sticks that melted too quickly in the summer heat – each moment was perfect.

sunghoon had a way of making even the most basic activities feel special.

he would leave little notes in your locker, filled with sweet messages that brightened your day. your friends had teased you endlessly, you never heard the end of it, but you didn't mind; you were in love.

during lunch breaks, you would sit together under the big oak tree in the school courtyard, talking about your dreams and plans for the future.

sunghoon wanted to become a professional athlete, while you dreamed of pursuing a career in business.

the thought of being apart after high school absolutely terrified you both, but you promised each other that nothing could come between you.

if you had to choose one, your favourite memory with park sunghoon was the night of the school dance.

sunghoon showed up at your house, looking stunning in his suit, a shy smile on his face as he handed you a bouquet of your favorite flowers.

the two of you danced the night away, lost in each other's arms, the rest of the world fading into the background.

as the evening came to an end, he walked you home, his hand never leaving yours.

under the soft glow of the streetlights, he kissed you, a sweet promise of forever.

as graduation approached soon after, you noticed a big change in sunghoon.

he became distant, his usual cheerfulness replaced by a somber and dull mood.

you tried to talk to him, of course you did, you tried your best to understand what was wrong, but he brushed off your concerns with forced smiles and vague reassurances.

you wanted to believe him, to trust that everything was fine, but the nagging feeling in your gut told you otherwise.

the day of graduation was supposed to be one of celebration, a celebration of years of hard work and shared dreams.

unfortunately for you, it became a day of complete and utter heartbreak.

you stood in your cap and gown, searching the crowd for sunghoon, but he was nowhere to be found.

panic set in as you tried calling him, each unanswered ring amplifying your fear.

you sent texts, pleading for an explanation, pleading for him to show up, but the silence was deafening.

you went to his house, but it was completely empty, a 'for sale' sign planted in the front yard.

the reality hit you like a ton of bricks – sunghoon was gone, without a word, without a goodbye, as if you were nothing to him, as if you were some summer fling.

your friends gathered around you, offering comfort, but their words did little to ease the pain that soared through you.

you spent the entire night staring at your phone, you were supposed to be out with your friends, with sunghoon, partying, celebrating the milestone and the survival of high-school.

instead it was spent hoping, praying for a message that never came.

days turned into weeks, and the reality set in – park sunghoon was gone, leaving you with a shattered heart and countless questions.

FIVE YEARS LATER.

the terrorizing buzzing of your alarm clock pulled you awake from a restless sleep.

you groaned, rolling over to hit the snooze button once again, but the persistent ringing reminded you of the long day ahead.

with a heavy sigh, you dragged yourself out of bed and into the shower, the hot water doing little to wash away the weariness and dread clinging to your bones.

after quickly dressing into your usual work attire – a simple blouse and skirt – you hurried to the kitchen to grab a quick breakfast.

the coffee machine sputtered and groaned, mirroring your own exhaustion. you burned your toast and spilled coffee on your shirt,

“are you fucking kidding me?” cursing under your breath as you hurriedly changed into another blouse.

the commute to work was no better. the bus was packed, leaving you standing and yearning for space, the claustrophobia clawing at you.

when you finally arrived at the office, you were already running late. mr. choi, your boss, was waiting for you at the entrance, his expression a mix of irritation and disdain.

"late again, i see," he sneered, his eyes narrowing.

"this is becoming a habit, and i don't tolerate incompetence in my employees."

“this is why females should stick to cooking..” he muttered under his breath as you looked down, squeezing your eyes shut.

mr. choi was the most misogynistic and sexist man you had ever met, but if you wanted to keep this job, no— you needed this job, if you wanted to reach your dreams, you had to take it.

even if it costed you your very own dignity.

you mumbled an apology, your cheeks burning with embarrassment with the stares of the other staff as you hurried to your desk.

the day dragged on, each minute feeling like an hour. mr. choi's constant demands and demeaning comments wore you down, but you pushed through, finding comfort in the support of your colleagues.

jake, your coworker, noticed your foul mood and tried to cheer you up.

"rough morning, y/nie" he asked, his tone overflowing with aegyo as he handed you a cup of tea.

"that's an understatement, and never do that in front of me again, jake sim!"

“why though! am i not cute enough for you?”

“you’re not cute, period.” you sighed, although that interaction had mixed up your insides in distaste, you were grateful for his kindness and determination to cheer you up.

jake was a light of positivity in the otherwise toxic environment of your workplace.

he often went out of his way to help you, making the long hours much more bearable.

despite the occasional office rumors, your relationship with jake was purely platonic, built on mutual respect, twisted humour and shared struggles.

around midday, to your dismay, mr. choi called you into his office.

"we have a very important client meeting today," he barked.

"i need you to serve tea like a noble lady and make sure everything goes smoothly. do not mess this up, you hear me?"

“yes, sir…”

nodding, you quickly ran to the staff room and prepared the tea, balancing the tray carefully as you approached the office door.

taking a deep breath, you knocked and entered, your eyes fixed on the floor.

"tea is served, sir," you announced, your voice steady despite the nerves of anxiety and nausea.

as you placed the tray on the table, a familiar voice made your heart stop.

"thank you so much," the voice said, and you looked up, your breath catching in your throat.

sitting across from mr. choi the last person you had ever expected.

it was park sunghoon, his presence a jabbing reminder of the unfateful past you had tried so hard to forget.

the shock was too much for you to handle.

your hands trembled, and the tray slipped, sending hot coffee spilling onto your lap. you gasped in pain, the burning liquid soaking through your clothes.

“y/n— are you okay?” sunghoon screeched as he stood up with worry, pacing towards you.

unfortunately for you, mr. choi's face turned red with anger.

"you clumsy fucking idiot!" he shouted.

"do you have any idea what you've done? you're a disgrace!"

“i warned you, bitch—“

sunghoon stood up abruptly, his eyes filled with anger and concern.

"that's enough, mr. kim" he said, his voice firm.

“mr. park, it’s ’mr. choi! c-h-o—“ he nervously uttered before sunghoon had cut him off.

"i absolutely won't be working with someone who treats their employees this way." he turned to you, his expression softening.

"come on, let's get you out of here."

you tried to resist his grip, the emotions of seeing your first love who disappeared on you after many years overwhelming you.

"let go of me, sunghoon! you have no right to even look my way after what you did!"

ignoring your protests, sunghoon led you to a storage room, closing the door behind you.

he stared at you for a good fifteen seconds before he pulled you into a hug, his arms strong and reassuring, even comforting after all these years, and that angered you.

"are you okay?" he asked, his voice filled with genuine worry.

you took a deep breath, trying to calm the storm of emotions swirling inside you.

"i'm fine," you said, though your voice wavered with the weight of your anger.

“y/n, you’re not fine—“

“yes i am, i’ll be leaving now.” you said firmly walking towards the exit as sunghoon softly gripped your arm, his touch begging you to stay.

“please y/n, wait—“

"want me to stay? then i need to know why you left without saying anything. you owe me that much."

sunghoon sighed as he pushed his hair back, his eyes filled with an ocean of regret.

"my family moved overseas suddenly, you know how they are— they refused to let me stay behind and i didn't know how to tell you. i thought it would be easier if i just disappeared, that you would move on without me holding you back. it was a mistake, and i've regretted it every day since."

he looked at you with a glimmer of something you couldn’t quite place, he sighed at your dumbfounded state and walked a step closer to you— his hand reaching out to caress your face before he hesitated, pulling them back to his side.

“i was eighteen and a fucking clueless idiot, y/n. you have every right to hate me, i’m so sorry.”

his words stirred up a mix of emotions – anger, sadness, but also a glimmer of nostalgia.

and it hit you— this was sunghoon standing right in front of you, your sunghoon.

"you should have trusted me, sunghoon" you said, tears welling up in your eyes.

"i needed you, sunghoon. you broke my heart, you shattered it and left me with nothing."

"i know," he whispered, his voice breaking.

"i tried to reach out, to find you, but when i saw that post on your account of you with your husband, jake sim was it? and the kids, i knew it was wrong. you had moved on, you have a family."

you shook your head in confusion, the misunderstanding almost laughable if it weren't so tragic.

"jake is just a friend, and those kids were part of a charity event. you should have reached out and asked anyway.."

sunghoon's shoulders fell with relief and shame.

"i'm so sorry. i was an idiot, and i hurt you. i know this is sudden and i don’t even have any right saying this— but i never stopped loving you, not for a moment. please, give me another chance. let me make it up to you."

you hesitated, the pain of the past still fresh in your mind as if it had all occurred yesterday.

"it's hard, sunghoon. you hurt me deeply, and it's not easy to just forget that."

he took your hand, the sudden feeling bringing you a wave of nostalgia, his eyes pleading.

"i know it's a lot to ask, trust me baby i know—but i promise i'll do everything i can to make it right. i still love you, more than anything. please, let me prove it to you."

seeing the sincerity in his eyes, hearing the old affectionate petname he had for you, you felt your resolve weakening.

"fine… one last chance, sunghoon. but you can't mess up. i can't go through that pain ever again."

a tear rolled down his cheek as he nodded with a grin— as if he had been told he had won the lottery (as if he wasn’t rich already...).

"thank you. i promise you with my whole heart and soul, i won't let you down." he leaned in, shyly pecking your cheek before taking your hand.

the gesture was so familiar, so comforting, that you couldn't help but smile.

just then, the door creaked open, and your best friend, who now worked with you, peeked in.

"everything okay in here, y/n?—" she asked before gasping, her eyes widening when she saw sunghoon.

a knowing smirk spread across her face.

"well, well, look who it is! i always knew you were gonna come back at some point, you were way too down bad to ever get over her.."

you and sunghoon laughed, the sound lightening the heavy atmosphere.

it felt like a new beginning, a chance to rebuild what was lost, to make up for the time could’ve been spent in each other’s embrace.

“well.. we should probably leave, don’t you think?—“ you cut sunghoon off with a quick, soft kiss before running out of the room with pink flushed cheeks and a heavy heart.

“hey— you can’t just do that and expect me to be okay!” he yelled before catching up to you with a soft grin.

of course, with the lovesick look in his eyes which he always carried for you.

holding sunghoon's hand, you walked out of the storage room together, and you knew in that moment that everything would be okay— because it was your sunghoon.

THE MOON SHINED BRIGHTLY UP IN THE NIGHT SKY, LEAVING AN ETHEREAL GLOW ON THE QUIET ROADS OF YOUR SMALL TOWN.

you pulled your jacket tighter around you, trying to fend off the chilly autumn air as you made your way to the convenience store.

the streets were eerily empty, the only sound being the distant hum of traffic and the occasional rustle of leaves crunching.

as you entered the convenience store, the bell above the door jingled softly, signifying your arrival as you nod a greeting to the sleepy cashier who could honestly care less behind the counter.

you wandered through the aisles, grabbing a few snacks and a bottle of soda.

as you headed towards the counter to pay, you noticed a shadow at the corner of your eye, moving outside the store.

your heart skips a beat, and a sense of unease and anxiousness washed over you. — more under cut !

you quickly paid for your items and stepped outside, hoping to make it back home without any trouble whatsoever.

but as soon as you stepped out, you realized that the shadow you saw earlier was unfortunately not a figment of your imagination.

a man is standing across the street, holding an empty bottle of alcohol with a smile of mischief, his eyes locked onto you.

he starts to follow you, his steps quickening as you quicken yours.

immediate panic rises in your chest, and you look around desperately for anyone who might help.

that's when you saw him.

a tall figure standing near the entrance of an alley, his hands shoved into his pockets and a cigarette dangling from his lips.

even in the dim light, you recognized him instantly.

nishimura riki.

the town's notorious bad boy. the one everyone warns you to stay away from.

but right now, he's your only hope.

you take a shaky deep breath and walk towards him, your heart pounding in your ears.

"hey, baby," you say, trying to keep your voice steady.

"i've been looking for you."

riki looks up, his eyes narrowing as he takes in the sight of you.

before he can even mutter a response, the man who's been following you steps closer, his gaze suspicious.

"is she really your girlfriend?" the man demands, grinning at riki.

for a moment, you think riki is going to walk away and leave you to fend for yourself.

but then he surprises you. he wraps an arm around your waist, pulling you close to him.

"yeah dipshit, you heard her didn’t you? she's with me," he says with venom dripping off his tone, his eyes never leaving the man.

"got a problem with that?"

the man hesitates, clearly intimidated by riki's calm demeanor.

"n-no," he stammers, taking a step back.

"no problem!"

riki watches him for a moment longer with a threatening glare before the man turns and hurries away.

you let out a shaky breath, your knees feeling weak with relief.

"thank you," you whisper, looking up at riki.

"i won't bother you again, i promise."

you start to pull away, but riki's grip on your waist tightens.

"the least you could do treat me to some ramen after that," he says, his voice soft but firm.

“i-if you want to of course, i’m not forcing you—“

you're shocked by his request, but you nod, unable to refuse after what he's just done for you.

he leads you to a small ramen shop a few blocks away, and you sit down at a corner table.

the warmth of the shop is a warm and welcome contrast to the cold night air, and you feel yourself relaxing a little as you take in the cozy atmosphere.

as you eat, you find yourself making conversation with riki, easing the awkward tension as you told him about your day and your plans for the future.

to your surprise, he listens attentively, occasionally nodding or asking a question.

he's not the terrifying bully everyone makes him out to be. in fact, he's sweet and cute, and you can't help but wonder why everyone is so terrified of him.

"why is everyone so scared of you?" you ask, voicing your thoughts.

"you're not like what they say at all."

riki looks away, a faint blush coloring his cheeks.

he stood up abruptly, leaving a twenty-dollar bill on the table.

"thanks for the company," he mumbles before scurrying out of the shop.

“but i was supposed to treat you—“

you're left staring after him, stunned with your mind racing.

as you headed home, you can't stop thinking about riki and the unexpected side of him that you've seen tonight.

when you finally crawl into the comfort of bed, it's with thoughts of his shy smile and soft voice pacing in your head.

the next day at school, you walk into your classroom full of chatter and students to find riki sleeping at his desk as usual.

you can't help but giggle at the sight of him, and as you pass his desk, you feel someone lightly grab your wrist.

you turn around to see riki looking up at you, rubbing the nape of his neck shyly.

"would you like to eat ramen with me again?" he asks, his voice barely above a whisper.

before you can respond, you hear whispers and snickers from the other students around you.

"look at her, talking to that delinquent," one of them sneers.

"she's probably just as bad as he is then.."

riki's expression falls, and he lets go of your wrist.

"i'm sorry," he mutters.

"i shouldn't have gotten you involved with me. now everyone's going to talk bad about you.."

you feel a sudden surge of anger at their cruel words.

you turn to face the gossiping students, your eyes blazing.

“shut up,” you snap.

"riki is sweet and kind, and definitely a better person than any of you."

the room falls silent, and you grab riki's wrist, pulling him out of the classroom and up to the rooftop.

once you're there, you let go of his wrist and take a deep breath, trying to calm down.

"thank you," riki says softly, his eyes filled with gratitude.

“why do you let everyone talk about you like that, riki? it’s not even true!” you frowned as he let out a soft grin.

"it's really hard for me to open up to people, and well— i don’t really care about them, but you.. you got me to open up so quickly..."

you smile at him, feeling a warmth spread through your chest.

"i'm glad you did," you say.

"i like getting to know the real you."

riki blushes, looking down at the concrete.

"would you... would you like to go on a date with me?" he asks, his voice trembling with nerves.

you're stunned for a moment, your heart racing. when he looks up at you, his eyes full of hope, you lean in and kiss him softly on the cheek.

"does that answer your question?" you whisper before turning and running back down the stairs, your heart pounding with excitement.

as you make your way back to class, you can't stop smiling.

you know that being with riki won't be easy, especially with his reputation but you also know that it's worth it.

because behind the tough exterior and the bad reputation, there's a sweet, kind boy who just needs someone to believe in him.

and you're more than happy to be that someone.

WINTER HAD FINALLY FALLEN OVER THE CITY, BLANKETING EVERYTHING IN A SOFT LAYER OF SNOW.

the air is crisp, your breath visible as you exhale, and the world seems quieter, more peaceful under the weight of the season.

you’re currently sitting at your desk, gazing out the window at the snowflakes drifting lazily from the sky.

the classroom is warm, a contrast with the cold outside, but you still feel a chill in your bones, one that has very little to do with the weather.

you’re used to feeling like this—alone, invisible.

you’ve always been the quiet one, the girl who keeps to herself, the one no one really notices.

while your classmates laugh and chat, you sit at the back, content staying in the shadows. — more under cut !

your gaze drifts to the front of the room, where the popular kids are gathered, as per usual.

they’re loud, carefree, the kind of people who draw others in without even trying.

you can’t help but envy them, but you also know you could never be like them. you’re too shy, too awkward, too...different.

your eyes land on jungwon, the boy you have had a crush on for almost a year now, ever since he transferred to your school, the boy who seems to have everything you have ever wanted.

he’s always surrounded by friends, his laugh contagious, his smile bright.

he’s the kind of person everyone gravitates toward, effortlessly charming and endlessly kind.

sometimes you wonder what it would be like to be his friend, but you quickly dismiss the thought.

someone like jungwon would never notice someone like you.

the bell rings, pulling you from your thoughts.

you gathered your things and slipped out of the classroom, making your way to your usual lunch spot on the balcony.

the balcony was your escape during lunch, a place where you can be alone, away from the noise and chaos of the students.

as you step outside, the cold air instantly hits you, but you don’t mind.

you lean against the railing, watching the snowflakes fall onto the surface, the world below covered in a fluffy blanket of white.

you look down at the courtyard, where students are huddled together, not minding the cold as they talk and eat.

your eyes find jungwon almost immediately.

he’s sitting with his friends under a tree, the snow dusting his dark hair, his cheeks pink from the cold.

he looks happy, carefree, and you couldn’t help but watch him, the way his eyes light up when he smiles, the way he talks with his hands when he’s excited.

you’re so lost in your thoughts that you don’t notice him looking up at you until it’s too late.

your heart skips a beat when you see him raise his hand and wave in your direction.

for a moment, you’re frozen, unsure of what to do.

then, the panic sets in. you blush furiously, ducking your head and turning away before bolting back inside.

you rush down the hallway, your heart pounding in your chest.

what was he thinking? why did he wave at you? did he realize you were staring at him? your mind races with a hundred questions, but no answers come.

the rest of the day passes in a blur. you avoid jungwon at all costs, afraid of what he might say if he approached you.

it’s silly, you know, but you can’t help it. you’ve never been good at talking to people, especially not someone like him.

the next day, you’re back on the balcony, trying to convince yourself that yesterday didn’t happen, that jungwon didn’t actually wave at you.

you tell yourself that he was probably waving at someone else, and you just happened to be in the way.

but deep down, you know that’s not true.

the snow is falling more heavily today, shivering as you wrap your scarf around you tighter.

you glance down at the courtyard again, but this time, you don’t see jungwon.

disappointment tugs at your heart, and you curse yourself for even caring. why should it matter if he’s there or not? it’s not like he’d want to be friends with you anyway, you tell yourself.

but then you hear footsteps behind you, and your heart leaps into your throat.

you turn around, half-expecting to see a teacher or another student, but it’s him.

yang jungwon. standing there, with that same bright smile on his face, a few flakes of snow clinging to his hair.

“hi,” he says, his voice warm and friendly, despite the cold.

you blink, unsure of what to say. your mind goes blank, and all you can do is stare at him.

“i noticed you like to hang out here during lunch,” he continues, unfazed by your silence.

“it’s a nice spot.”

you nod, still too shocked to form any words.

jungwon leans against the railing next to you, looking out at the snow-covered courtyard.

“i’ve seen you around, but i don’t think we’ve ever talked before. i’m jungwon.”

you already know that, of course, but you manage to mumble your name shyly in response.

he turns to you, his eyes full of curiosity.

“you’re really quiet, huh?”

you nod again, feeling your cheeks heat up with embarrassment.

you’re sure he must think you’re weird, just like everyone else does.

but to your surprise, he doesn’t seem put off by your shyness. in fact, he seems genuinely interested in getting to know you.

over the next few days, jungwon goes out of his way to talk to you, finding you on the balcony or in the hallways between classes.

he’s always kind, never making you feel uncomfortable, it’s quite clear that he’s determined to becoming your friend.

at first, you’re hesitant. you’ve never had someone like jungwon show interest in you before, and you don’t know how to handle it.

but slowly, you start to warm up to him. he’s patient with you, never pushing you to speak more than you’re comfortable with.

instead, he fills the silence with his own stories, his laughter, and his bright aura and energy.

one day, as you’re making your way to your next class, you hear voices behind you—mean, familiar, mocking voices that send a chill down your spine.

you don’t need to turn around to know who it is.

a group of girls, the same ones who had picked on you since the fifth grade up until now, who whisper cruel things just loud enough for you to hear.

“look at her, all alone again,” one of them sneers.

“no wonder no one wants to be her friend.”

you try to ignore them, to walk faster, but they catch up to you, blocking your path.

“what’s the matter, y/n?” another girl taunts with a condescending smirk.

“cat got your tongue?”

your heart races, fear and embarrassment flooding your senses.

you wanted to disappear, to melt into the floor and escape their cruel words.

after finally having a friend for the first time in years, you had forgotten your harsh reality.

but these girls had reminded you of the cruel reality, you’d never be liked.

before you could continue with your thoughts— a familiar voice had spoken up.

“hey! leave her alone.”

the voice is firm, authoritative, and angry, for a moment, you don’t realize who it belongs to.

but then you see him—jungwon, standing there with a fiery look in his eyes, glaring at the group of girls.

they hesitate, clearly surprised to see him, the most popular guy in school, standing up for you.

“come on jungwon, we were just joking around!”

one of them says, but her voice lacks the confidence it had moments ago.

“well, it’s not funny,” jungwon snaps.

“get out of my sight.”

the girls exchange nervous glances before finally backing off, muttering under their breaths as they walk away.

you’re left standing there, still shaken, but incredibly grateful.

jungwon turns to you, his expression softening at your bewildered state.

“are you okay, y/n?”

you nod, trying to hold back the tears that threaten to spill over.

in all these years, no one has ever defended you from those bullies, they just observed with a look of pity, you’re not used to someone standing up for you like that.

“come on,” he says as he gently takes your hand in his.

“let’s get out of here.”

he leads you to the rooftop, the one place in the school where you know you’ll be alone.

it’s quieter up there, the snow muffling the sounds of the city below.

the cold wind bites at your skin, but the presence of jungwon beside you makes it more bearable.

jungwon sits down on a bench, and you follow him, sitting beside him.

for a moment, neither of you speak, the silence heavy with unspoken words.

“they’re wrong, you know,” jungwon says finally, breaking the silence.

“about you. they don’t know a single thing about you, they don’t know anything.”

you look at him, surprised by the sincerity in his voice.

“why do you care?” you ask, the words slipping out before you can stop them.

jungwon looks at you, his gaze steady.

“because i think you’re interesting,” he says simply.

“you’re different from everyone else, and i admire that.”

you blush, looking down at your hands, no one has ever said something like that to you before.

you’ve always felt like your shyness was a burden, something that made you less than everyone else.

but here’s jungwon, the most popular guy in school, telling you that he likes you for who you are.

without thinking, the words tumble out of your mouth before you could stop them.

“i like you.”

the moment the words leave your lips, you freeze, your heart hammering in your chest.

you didn’t mean to say that, at least not out loud. panic sets in, and you want to take it back, you don’t want to lose the one person you have because of your feelings, but it’s too late.

jungwon blinks, clearly surprised by your sudden confession.

for a moment, you’re terrified that you’ve ruined everything, that he’s going to laugh or tell you that you’re mistaken.

but then he smiles—a warm, genuine smile that makes your heart skip a beat.

“i like you too,” he says, his voice soft.

“i’ve been interested in you for a while now.”

you stare at him, your mind reeling in thoughts.

did he just say what you think he did? you’re not sure if you’re dreaming or if this is really happening.

jungwon laughs lightly, his breath visible in the cold air as his cheeks tinged with pink.

“i didn’t expect you to say it first,” he admits, rubbing the back of his neck.

“but i’m glad you did.”

a shy smile tugged at the corners of your lips. the snow continues to fall around you, the world seeming to slow down for just a moment.

on that quiet, snowy rooftop, for the first time in a long time, you feel that just maybe, things could be different for the first time in forever.

as you sit there on the rooftop with jungwon, you realize that you’re not alone anymore.

you have him—a friend, and now something even more, someone who sees you for who you are and likes you just the same.

and that’s enough.

YOU HAD ALWAYS HATED JAKE SIM.

for as long as you could remember, jake had been the sharp thorn in your side, the annoying neighbour who never missed an opportunity to get under your skin.

from petty childhood arguments over whose bike was better to the typical teenage bickering over the loud music he’d blast at all hours of the night, jake had always been there to ruin your day.

and you, of course, made it your life’s mission to return the favor.

the two of you were like fire and rain, constantly clashing, never finding common ground.

so when the world went to hell and the dead started walking, it felt like some cruel joke that you’d end up stuck with jake sim.

the outbreak had come unexpectedly, tearing through your small town and leaving devastation in all its glory.

your family was one of the first to fall, victims of the chaos and the hordes of the undead. — more under cut !

and jake’s family—well, they didn’t have it any better.

in the end, it was just you and jake, the two of you huddled in the basement of your now-empty homes, the animosity between you two simmering beneath the surface.

but as much as you hated jake, you hated the loneliness more. so, despite everything, you stuck together.

you scavenged for supplies, barricaded yourselves in your homes, and did your best to survive.

days turned into weeks, and weeks into months, and somewhere along the way, the hatred between you began to fade, replaced by something else.

something you couldn’t quite define into words.

you would never call jake your friend, that would be too much.

but he was the only person left in the world who knew you, who understood what you’d been through.

and in a way, that was enough.

it had been almost a year since the outbreak when you finally stumbled upon a group of survivors.

they were a tough bunch, hardened by the world they’d been thrown into, but they welcomed you and jake with open arms.

for the first time in a long time, you and jake felt a glimmer of hope for the future.

the camp was a small, makeshift community nestled deep in the woods, hidden from the undead and the humans who were just as dangerous.

it wasn’t much, but it was safe, and that was all that mattered.

for the first few weeks, you and jake kept to yourselves, still wary of the people around you.

but slowly, you began to fall into place with the group, forming lifelong bonds with the other survivors.

jake, the social butterfly between the two of you, adapted quickly.

he made friends, joked around, and even found a place within the group’s hierarchy as one of the best fighters.

you, on the other hand, struggled. the loss of your family weighed heavily on you, and you found it hard to trust anyone.

the only person you really spoke to was jake, and even then, it was usually out of necessity.

but then you saw him—laughing, joking, flirting—with one of the girls in the camp.

she was pretty, with long blonde hair and a bright smile, the kind of girl who would have turned jake’s head even before the world had fallen apart.

and seeing them together, the two of them looking so at ease, so...happy, made something in you snap.

you didn’t understand it at first—the pure jealousy that bubbled up inside you.

why should you care who jake talked to? it wasn’t like you had any claim on him.

but the longer you watched them, the more that jealousy had grown into more, turning into something dark and bitter.

and that’s when the old animosity started to rear its ugly head back.

it started with small things—snide, hurtful comments, sarcastic jabs, little sneers that you knew would get under jake’s skin.

but jake wasn’t one to back down from a fight, and soon enough, the two of you were at each other’s throats again, just like old times.

but this time, it wasn’t petty childhood squabbles or teenage drama.

this time, it was real, and it was ugly.

the argument came to a head one evening after dinner. the camp was quiet, the other survivors were settling in for the night, but you and jake were very far from peaceful.

“you’re really enjoying yourself, aren’t you?”

you snapped, your voice dripping with venom as you crossed your arms over your chest.

jake, who had been cleaning his knife by the fire, looked up at you, his expression mixed with both confusion and annoyance.

“what the hell are you talking about now, y/n?”

“you know exactly what i’m talking about,” you spat, glaring at him.

“you and that blonde girl—soojin, or whatever her name is.”

jake’s brow furrowed, and he set his knife down roughly, rising to his feet.

“what’s your problem, y/n? soojin’s just a friend. why do you care anyway?”

the question had caught you off guard, and for a moment, you faltered.

why did you care? but then the anger surged back, drowning out the uncertainty.

“i don’t care,” you lied, your volume rising.

“i just think it’s pathetic and heartless how you’re so quick to move on. it’s like you don’t even care that our families are gone!”

jake’s eyes widened, and for a split second, you saw a flash of hurt in his expression.

but it was gone as quickly as it appeared, replaced by a fuming anger.

“don’t you dare bring them into this,” he growled, taking a step closer to you.

“you think i don’t care? you think this is easy for me? you have no idea what i’m going through!”

“oh, please,” you scoffed, rolling your eyes.

“you’re not the only one who’s lost people, jake. we all have. but at least i’m not using it as an excuse to flirt with every guy in camp.”

jake’s fists clenched at his sides, his jaw tightening as he glared at you.

“you’re unbelievable, you know that? you’re so wrapped up in your own misery that you can’t see what’s right in front of you.”

“and what’s that?” you shot back, your heart pounding in your chest.

jake’s voice dropped, and for a moment, there was something raw in his tone.

“that i’ve been trying to protect you this whole time, but you’re too stubborn to let anyone in. i’ve done everything i can to keep you safe, and all you do is push me away.”

his words hit you like a punch to the gut, and you opened your mouth to respond, but the words wouldn’t come.

instead, you just stood there, staring at him, feeling a mix of anger, guilt, and something else you couldn’t name.

but then, just as quickly as the vulnerability had appeared, jake’s walls went back up.

he shook his head, scoffing as he turned away from you.

“you know what? forget it. you’re not worth this. i’m done.”

and with that, he walked away, leaving you standing there, your heart in your throat and your mind flowing with possibilities.

the next morning, after barely getting sleep because of the man who occupied your thoughts— you were assigned to a supply run.

the tension between you and jake was still thick in the air, and you knew you needed to talk to him before you left.

you needed to clear the air, to apologize for the things you’d said, and maybe—just maybe—get some closure.

but when you found jake near the edge of camp, sharpening his knife, he wouldn’t even spare you a single glance.

“jake, can we talk?” you asked, your voice hesitant, the anger from the night before gone, replaced by a hollow sadness within you.

he didn’t respond, his focus on the knife in his hands.

the silence stretched on, each second feeling like an eternity had passed.

“jake, please,” you tried again, your voice trembling.

“i’m sorry, okay? i didn’t mean what i said last night. i was just...i was upset.”

still, he said nothing. he didn’t even glance in your direction. the coldness of his silence cut deeper than any argument ever could.

your heart shattered. you felt the tears welling up in your eyes, but you blinked them back, refusing to let him see you cry.

“fine,” you whispered, your voice breaking.

“if that’s really how you want it.”

and with that, you turned and walked away, your heart heavy with regret.

as you left the camp with the supply run team, you couldn’t shake the feeling of dread that settled in your chest.

the last words you’d spoken to jake had been in anger, and now...now you didn’t know if you’d ever get the chance to fix things.

the supply run was supposed to be simple. in and out, just like the dozens of other runs you’d done before.

but from the moment you set foot in the abandoned city, you knew in your gut that something was off.

the streets were eerily quiet, the usual sounds of the undead suspiciously absent.

the hairs on the back of your neck stood on end, and you couldn’t shake the feeling that you were being watched.

and then it happened.

the ambush.

a horde of zombies, larger than any you’d seen before, descended upon your group, seemingly out of nowhere.

the utter chaos was immediate—people screaming, gunshots ringing out, the sickening sound of flesh being torn apart.

you fought with everything you had, your heart pounding in your chest as you slashed at the biters with your knife, trying to carve a path to safety.

but it was hopeless. the horde was too big, too overwhelming.

you watched in horror as members of your group were taken down one by one, their screams echoing in your ears.

and then, just as you thought you might make it out, one of them grabbed you.

the pain was immediate and excruciating. the sound of your leg snapping as you fell, but still making sure the zombie couldn’t bite you.

you screamed, in fear and for your life, a raw, agonizing sound that ripped from your throat as you fell to the ground, the world around you blurring with pain and fear.

somehow, by some miracle, you managed to pull out your gun and fire a shot into the zombie’s head, relief filling your body as you ended its life.

but the damage was done. your leg was broken, and you were bleeding out.

the last thing you remembered before everything went dark was the sound of someone shouting your name, their voice filled with desperation.

when you woke up, you were in the camp’s infirmary.

the pain in your leg was unbearable, a constant, throbbing ache that made it hard to think.

but even through the haze of pain, you recognized the familiar sounds of the camp—the murmur of voices, the crackling of the fire, the distant buzzing of generators.

and then, you heard something else. something that made your heart skip a beat.

jake.

he was sitting beside your bed, his head in his hands, his shoulders shaking with aggressive but silent sobs.

for a moment, you thought you were dreaming, jake sim didn’t cry. he didn’t show weakness.

but as you blinked away the sleep from your eyes and tried to sit up, you realized that this was very much real.

“jake?” your voice was hoarse, barely more than a whisper, but it was enough to make him look up.

his eyes were red and puffy, his face streaked with tears. the sight of him like this—so broken, so vulnerable—made your heart ache.

“you’re awake,” he choked out, his voice thick with emotion.

he reached out, his hand trembling as he brushed a strand of hair from your face.

“god, y/n, i thought i lost you.”

you stared at him, still trying to process everything. the last thing you remembered was the horde, the pain in your leg, the darkness that had swallowed you whole.

but now, here you were, alive, and jake sim was...crying.

“what happened?” you croaked, wincing as a wave of pain shot through your leg.

jake shook his head, his hand still resting on your cheek.

“the run...it went bad. we lost a lot of people. you—” his voice cracked, and he took a shaky breath.

“you got hurt. i thought...i thought i’d never see you again.”

his words hit you like a ton of bricks, the reality of the situation sinking in.

people had died. you had almost died. and through it all, jake had been here, by your side, crying over you.

“i’m sorry,” he whispered, his voice barely more than a breath.

“i’m so sorry, y/n. i shouldn’t have ignored you. i shouldn’t have let you go on that run alone— i should’ve protected you, i was just...i was angry, and i didn’t think, and now...now i almost lost you, and i can’t...i can’t lose you.”

the raw emotion in his voice made your chest tighten, tears welling up in your own eyes.

you had never seen jake like this before—so open, so honest. and it broke your heart.

“i was angry too,” you admitted, your voice trembling.

“i said things i didn’t mean, and i’m sorry, jake. i didn’t want us to end things like that. i never wanted to hurt you.”

jake let out a shaky laugh, wiping at his eyes with the back of his hand.

“you didn’t hurt me, y/n. i’m the one who hurt you. i’ve been hurting you for years, and i didn’t even realize it until now.”

he took a deep breath, his eyes searching yours as if he was trying to find the right words.

“i’ve spent so much time hating you, but i didn’t even know why. i think...i think it was because i was scared. scared of how much you meant to me. scared of losing you.”

the words hung in the air between you, heavy with meaning. you felt your heart pounding in your chest, a mix of fear and disbelief swirling inside you.

“jake, what are you trying to say?” you asked, your voice barely above a whisper, filled with anticipation.

he looked at you, his eyes filled with a vulnerability you had never once seen before in all the years of growing up together.

“i’m saying that i love you, y/n. i’ve loved you for a long time, but i was too stupid to realize it. and now...now i might have lost you for good.”

the confession hit you like a harsh wave, overwhelming you with emotions you had been trying to suppress for so long.

you had always hated jake—or at least, that’s what you told yourself. but deep down, there had always been something more.

something you had been too afraid to admit, even to yourself.

“i love you too,” you whispered, the words slipping out before you could stop them, but yet they felt so right coming out of your mouth.

“i’ve always loved you, but i didn’t know how to tell you. i was scared too.”

jake’s eyes widened in surprise, and for a moment, he just stared at you, as if he couldn’t believe what he was hearing.

but then, a slow, shaky smile spread across his face, and he let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding.

“you love me?” he asked, his voice filled with awe.

you nodded with a weak grin, tears streaming down your cheeks.

“yes, you idiot. i love you.”

the relief that washed over his face was immediate, and before you knew it, he was leaning in, pressing his lips to yours in a soft, tender kiss.

it was a kiss that held years of pent-up emotions, a kiss that spoke of all the things you had never said to each other.

when he finally pulled back, he rested his forehead against yours, his warm breath mingling with yours.

“you’re never going on a run without me again,” he whispered, his voice filled with a silly undertone but you could hear the seriousness— the determination.

you let out a small laugh, despite the tears still streaming down your face.

“deal.”

and in that moment, you knew that no matter what the future held, you would face with jake sim— your annoying neighbour now turned lover.

because finally in this broken world, you had found something— someone worth fighting for.

you had found love.

 . .

IT WAS 3AM WHEN THE SOUND OF YOUR PHONE BUZZING ON THE NIGHTSTAND PULLED YOU OUT OF A DEEP SLUMBER.

groggily, you reached for it, squinting at the bright screen in the darkness of your room.

the caller id shows heeseung’s name, and you furrow your brows in confusion.

what reason could your boyfriend possibly have to be calling you at this hour?

you answered the call with a tired sigh leaving your lips, your voice thick with sleep.

“hee? what’s wrong?”

“come outside,” he whispers, his tone mischievous.

“i’m outside your house.”

“outside my house?” you repeat in disbelief, quickly sitting up in bed.

you push back the curtain and peer out of your window.

sure enough, there he is, standing beneath the streetlight, hands shoved in his pockets, a playful grin on his face as he excitedly waves at you, you scoffed getting back into bed. — more under cut !

“why are you here hee, have you seen the time?” you ask, a tiny smile tugging at your lips despite your confusion.

“i’m craving ramen,” he replies simply, as if it’s the most obvious thing in the world.

“ramen? at 3am?” you couldn’t help but let out a soft laugh.

“you seriously couldn’t wait until morning?”

“nope,” he says, popping the ‘p.’

“come on, let’s go get some. i’ll drive.”

there’s something about his voice, the way he’s so carefree and impulsive, that makes you throw off your soft blankets once again and get out of the comfort of your bed.

“give me a minute,” you say before hanging up and grabbing the nearest hoodie to throw over your pajamas.

a few minutes later, you’re slipping out the front door as quietly as possible, not wanting to risk getting caught by waking up your parents.

heeseung’s car is parked right outside, and there he was leaning against it, looking up at your window with a boyish grin.

when he finally sees you, his face lights up.

“there you are,” he says, opening the passenger door for you.

“ready for our late-night ramen date?”

you roll your eyes playfully but can’t hide the smile that spreads across your face.

“you’re crazy, you know that?”

“only for my angel,” he replies, winking before closing the door once you’re seated.

the drive to the convenience store is filled with soft music playing in the background, the streets empty and deserted at this hour.

there’s something peaceful about the whole situation, like the world has slowed down just for the two of you.

heeseung keeps glancing over at you, his hand occasionally brushing against yours on the center console.

each touch sent a warm flutter through your chest, making you feel both excited and flustered.

when you arrived at the local 7-11, it’s empty, excluding the bored-looking cashier who barely glances up as you two walked in.

you both head straight to the instant ramen aisle, and heeseung lets out a whistle as he searched through the selection.

“which one do you want?” he asks, turning to you with a smile that’s much too charming for 3am.

you shrug, trying to hide your amusement.

“you’re the ramen expert here, i’ll trust your judgment.”

heeseung grins up at you, grabbing two different flavors and a couple of drinks.

“trust me angel, you’re in for a real treat.”

the two of you sat outside on a small bench, the night air cool but refreshing.

as you both dug into the steaming cups of ramen, you couldn’t help but feel a sense of surrealism.

here you are, having a random date in the middle of the night at 3am, and it felt perfect.

heeseung watches you as you take your first bite, his eyes soft and filled with affection.

“is it good?” he asks, his voice low and warm, and a slight worry that he chose the wrong flavour.

you nod, trying not to blush under his gaze.

“it’s perfect,” you reply, and he smiles, looking instantly relieved.

as you eat, the conversation flows easily, followed by laughter and the occasional playful nudges.

heeseung was in his element, teasing you gently and stealing bites of your ramen when he thought you weren’t looking.

you pretend to be annoyed, but in reality, you’re basking in the warmth of his attention.

when the food is gone and the cups are discarded, you both linger in the moment, neither of you wanting the night to end.

heeseung reached out, brushing a strand of hair away from your face before cupping your cheek with his hand.

the gesture was so tender that it makes your heart swell with affection.

“you’re seriously the cutest, you know that?” he murmurs, his thumb gently stroking your skin.

you feel your cheeks heat up, and you lean into his touch, savoring the closeness.

“you’re not so bad yourself,” you reply, your voice soft.

heeseung chuckles, his eyes crinkling at the corners.

“only ‘not so bad’? i’ll take it.”

he leans in, pressing a gentle kiss to your lips.

it’s sweet and lingering on your lips, a perfect contrast of the moment.

when he pulled back, you can’t help but smile at him, your heart feeling the fullest it’s ever been.

but as you glance back at his car, a sudden thought crosses your mind—one that makes your pulse quicken.

you take a deep breath, the words slipping out before you can second-guess yourself.

“do you want to.. sleep over?”

heeseung blinks at you, his eyes widening in surprise.

“s-sleep over?” he repeats, his voice a little higher than usual.

“like… at your place?”

you nodded, biting your lip nervously.

“yeah. it’s just… i don’t really want the night to end yet. but if it’s too soon, that’s okay—”

“no, no,” he interrupts, his cheeks flushed.

“i’d love to. i just… what about your parents?”

“i’ll lock the door,” you say with a small smile.

“they won’t even know you’re there.”

heeseung stares at you for a moment longer, giving you the opportunity to back out— but as he sees the anticipation and nervousness in your eyes he finally nods, his lips curling into a shy smile.

“okay. let’s do it.”

back at your house, you both tiptoe up the stairs, trying to be as quiet as possible.

your heart was racing, a mix of excitement and nerves making your hands tremble slightly.

when you finally reach your room, you close the door behind you, not forgetting to twist the lock as you let out a breath you didn’t realize you were holding.

heeseung looks around your room, taking in the soft glow of the fairy lights and the familiar scent that screams you.

he seems nervous, and it was endearing to see him like this, so different from his usual confident, nonchalant self.

“i, uh… i can sleep on the floor,” he offers, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly.

you shake your head, a small smile playing on your lips.

“don’t be ridiculous, hee. we’re a couple, right? you can sleep beside me.”

his eyes widen at your words, but he nods, trying to hide his flustered expression.

“yeah… if that’s fine with you, okay.”

you both get ready for bed in a comfortable silence, though the air is charged with anticipation and quietness.

when you finally climb into bed, you lie on your side, facing away from heeseung.

he hesitates for a moment before joining you, leaving a respectful gap between your bodies.

the silence stretches on, filled with the sound of your breathing and the occasional rustle of the sheets.

you’re both nervous, no doubt and it’s almost amusing how two people who just shared a kiss could be so shy now.

after a few minutes, you muster up the courage to turn around.

but when you do, you find yourself face-to-face with heeseung, his nose practically brushing against yours.

you both freeze, eyes wide, before breaking into soft giggles.

“this is really awkward, isn’t it?” you whisper, your breath mixing with his.

“yeah,” he admits, a grin tugging at his lips.

“but in a super good way.”

you nod, the nervousness melting away as you bask in the warmth of his presence.

without thinking, you shift closer, laying your head on his chest.

heeseung’s arms immediately wrapped around you instinctively, holding you close as if you were the most precious thing in the world, protecting you.

you tilted your head up, your lips finding his in a slow, soft kiss.

it’s tender and sweet, filled with all the emotions you couldn’t possibly put into words.

when you finally pulled back, you rest your head against his chest again, listening to the steady beat of his heart, putting you back into a deep sleep.

“goodnight, hee,” you murmur, your voice laced with a gentleness and contentment.

“goodnight, baby.” he replies, his voice equally soft.

he presses a kiss to the top of your head, his arms tightening around you as if he never wants to let go.

as you drift off to sleep, wrapped in his warmth, you couldn’t help but smile.

this is your first sleepover, but you certainly know it won’t be your last.

and of course, it definitely will not be your last 3am ramen date.

YOU HAD ALWAYS KNOWN JAKE SIM AS YOUR OLDER BROTHER'S QUIET, EXTREMELY SHY AND NERDY BEST FRIEND WHO COULD NOT INTERACT WITH A GIRL FOR THE LIFE OF HIM.

the guy who would fumble with his glasses, constantly blushing whenever someone spoke directly to him.

you remembered how his ears would turn red, especially around you, which always made your stomach twist with a certain warmth.

but those days were long gone in the past, but you’d be lying if you said you didn’t have a tiny crush on him growing up— but hey, no one else saw him when he would get you gifts with the small amount of money he saved up on your birthdays— or the way his ears would turn a bright red as you hugged him in appreciation.

when you returned home for the summer, you expected things to be the exact same.

waking up in your childhood bedroom felt familiar and comforting, the sun gently pouring in through your blinds, kissing your skin as you slowly stirred awake.

the house was quiet— silent as usual, your parents were out for the day, leaving you and your older brother to have the house to yourselves. ─── more under cut !

half-asleep, your feet gently padded down onto the wood as you made your way downstairs, your brain barely registering the soft hum of voices from the kitchen.

you assumed it was heeseung, who else would be at your house 10:00am in the morning?

with a tired yawn, stretching your arms mindlessly, you made your way to the fridge, reaching for a glass of water with your eyes still quite literally closed.

you barely noticed the figure leaning casually against the counter, your eyes half-lidded as you sipped on the beverage.

“not gonna greet me, princess? i’m hurt..”

the voice startled you, causing you to spill a bit of water as you turned sharply in shock.

wait— that was definitely not heeseung’s voice.

you blinked up at the figure standing before you, your eyes widening at the realization of who was standing in your kitchen—jake sim.

but he wasn’t the jake you remembered, he certainly was not the awkward nerdy boy who could barely look you in the eye.

instead, standing before you was someone who radiated confidence, with tousled hair that fell perfectly into place and a smirk playing on his lips instead of the usual shy grin.

“j-jake?” you stammered, feeling a sudden wave of flustered heat creeping up your neck.

“i—i didn’t know you were here.”

he chuckled softly, stepping a little closer, his eyes sparkling with amusement.

“and here i thought you were purposely avoiding me.” he replied with a teasing pout.

your heart raced at his teasing tone, he was nothing like the boy you remembered.

the jake standing before you was taller, his frame broader, with a sense of self-assuredness that made your knees weak— you had to remind yourself to breathe.

“n-no, i wouldn’t do that..” you managed to say, stepping back slightly.

“i was just… tired.”

“hmm,” jake hummed thoughtfully, leaning against the counter again, his eyes never leaving yours.

“you’re just as cute in the morning as i remember.”

you felt your cheeks heat up even more if possible, since when did jake talk like this?

you weren’t used to this version of him—the one who seemed to know exactly how to make you flustered with just a few words.

just as you were about to say something in return, strong arms wrapped around your waist from behind, lifting you slightly off the ground. you squealed in surprise as heeseung’s familiar laughter filled the kitchen.

“morning, my baby sister,” heeseung teased, spinning you around before setting you down.

“forgot how adorable you were in the mornings—i miss when you were five..”

you playfully punched at his chest, smirking at his winces as your face was still burning from the interaction with jake.

“don’t tease me, hee.”

“okay— that’s enough!”

heeseung ruffled your hair affectionately before glancing at jake, who had stepped back with a laugh, clearly enjoying the show.

the tension in the room seemed to ease as your brother’s presence lightened the mood, as always.

the three of you spent the morning catching up, with heeseung filling you in on all the university gossip, jake chiming in with his own stories.

but throughout the day, you couldn’t shake the feeling of jake’s lingering gaze, nor could you ignore the subtle flirtatious comments he would occasionally throw your way when heeseung wasn’t present.

to be completely honest— it was confusing.

you had long since convinced yourself that whatever crush you had on jake was over.

you had moved on, hadn’t you? he was just heeseung’s adorable, cute— now turned hot and flirtatious best friend.

but the way he looked at you now, the way his voice softened when he called you “princess,” had your heart skipping beats you weren’t prepared for.

as the summer days went by, jake seemed to be everywhere— leaving you no space to think straight anymore.

whether it was hanging out with heeseung in the living room or joining your family for dinner, he was always around, always watching you with that same intense gaze that made your heartbeat quicken.

his confidence was undeniable, and as much as you tried to deny it, you found yourself drawn to him in a way that left you feeling both excited and terrified.

it was hard not to notice the way he seemed to gravitate towards you, always finding a way to brush against your arm or throw a sly smile your way.

and every time he did, it felt like your carefully built defenses you had up were crumbling piece by piece.

you tried to tell yourself that it was nothing—that jake was just being playful.

but the way his touch lingered and the way his eyes would darken when they met yours told you otherwise.

something had definitely changed between you two, and despite your best efforts, you couldn’t ignore it.

the soft murmur of the ocean filled the air, the salty breeze kissing your skin as you were sat down on the sandy shore.

heeseung and jake were tossing a frisbee back and forth near the waterline, their laughter carried by the wind.

you watched them from your towel, your knees tucked up to your chest, feeling the warmth of the sun soak into your skin.

heeseung was the first to notice you sitting quietly by yourself.

with a mischievous grin, he called out, “hey! are you going to sit there all day like some weirdo, or are you going to join us?”

you shook your head with a small laugh.

“i’m fine right here, thanks!”

jake ran over, his t-shirt clinging to his body from the water.

his hair was damp, tousled by the wind, and a playful smile tugged at his lips.

you tried not to stare, but the way his muscles moved beneath his shirt caught your attention in ways you weren’t ready for.

“come on,” jake urged, crouching down beside you, his hand reaching out to gently nudge your knee.

“you can’t just sit here and watch. that’s no fun.”

you raised an eyebrow, with a joking smirk.

“and what exactly do you suggest i do, sim?”

he smirked, his eyes gleaming with a spark of mischief.

“i suggest you try and catch this.”

before you could react, heeseung tossed the frisbee towards you.

instinctively, you reached out and caught it, your eyes widening in surprise.

“see?” jake grinned, standing up and offering you his hand.

“you’ve got this— all you needed was a little push.”

reluctantly, you took his hand, and he pulled you up from the sand.

his grip was warm and firm, and for a moment, you found yourself lingering in his touch before you quickly let go, feeling a flutter in your chest that you couldn’t shake away.

as the three of you played together by the water, the mood felt light and carefree.

heeseung would shout playful taunts whenever you or jake missed the frisbee, and jake would respond with sarcastic comments that made you laugh.

at one point, the frisbee flew far, and jake chased after it, his feet splashing in the shallow waves.

he turned back with a winners smile, holding the frisbee up in victory, but his eyes softened when they met yours.

“hey, y/n,” he called out, his tone quieter now, almost hesitant.

you looked up from where you were standing, your heart skipping a beat as his gaze locked with yours.

“yeah?”

for a moment, jake just stood there, the ocean behind him and the sun glooming down a soft glow over his face.

his expression was unreadable, as if he was trying to figure out what to say.

but then he shook his head, his lips curling into a gentle smile.

“nothing,” he said softly, walking back towards you.

“just… you look really happy today.”

you blinked, taken aback by the sincerity in his voice.

there was something in the way he said it—something that made you feel like he wasn’t just talking about your appearance, but about you as a person.

your cheeks warmed, and you smiled shyly, brushing a strand of hair behind your ear.

“thanks, i am.”

jake’s smile widened, and he glanced away, almost as if he was embarrassed by his own words.

but the moment lingered, hanging between you like a thread of something unspoken.

you felt it in the way your stomach fluttered, in the way jake’s eyes softened every time they met yours.

it was the kind of moment that left you wondering—hoping—that maybe he felt the same pull that you did.

after the sun had set and the day at the beach had come to an end, the three of you returned home, completely worn out and exhausted but content.

heeseung headed off to bed early, claiming that the sun had drained all his energy, but you and jake decided to stay up a little longer.

the two of you ended up in the backyard, a blanket spread out beneath the stars.

you laid side by side, staring up at the sky, the air cool and crisp after the heat of the day.

“do you remember when we used to do this as kids?” jake asked softly, his voice cutting through the silence of the night.

you smiled, your eyes fixed on the stars twinkling above.

“yeah, of course i do. we’d sneak out of the house and lie out here for hours, just talking about anything and everything.”

jake chuckled quietly.

“heeseung always fell asleep first. every time.”

you giggled at the memory with a fond smile.

“and then we’d try to wake him up, but he’d just mumble something about video games and roll over.”

“some things just never change, huh..” you whispered with a chuckle.

jake’s laughter faded into a comfortable silence, and after a few moments, you felt him shift beside you.

his hand brushed against yours, sending a spark of electricity through your skin.

you glanced over at him, and in the soft moonlight, you could see the way his eyes were focused on you—not the stars.

“do you ever miss those days?” he asked quietly, his voice tinged with a kind of nostalgia that tugged at your heart.

you nodded slowly in agreement.

“sometimes, things felt simpler back then.”

jake’s fingers curled around yours, his touch gentle but hesitant.

“yeah,” he murmured.

“but i think some things… they’re better now.”

your heart skipped a beat at his words, and you found yourself turning to face him fully.

the look in his eyes was different—deeper, there was no teasing smirk, no playful glint.

instead, there was something raw, something vulnerable and real.

you could feel the weight of it pressing down on your chest, and it made your breath catch in your throat.

“jake…” you whispered, your voice barely audible.

he didn’t say anything, but the way he looked at you—the way his eyes traced the curve of your face, the way his thumb gently brushed against the back of your hand— it spoke volumes.

it was as if the air between you had shifted, instead filled with something that neither of you could name but both of you surely felt.

the moment stretched on, and for a brief second, you thought he— jake sim, might kiss you.

the thought sent a shocking thrill through your veins, but before either of you could move, the sound of a door opening broke the intensity of the moment.

“heeseung’s probably wondering where we are,” jake said softly, pulling his hand away and sitting up.

his voice was calm, but you could see the faint but familiar pink blush on his cheeks, and you wondered in that moment— if he felt the same rush of feelings that you did.

you nodded, sitting up as well, though your heart still raced in your chest.

the connection between you felt fragile and real, and as you both headed inside, you couldn’t help but wonder how much longer you’d be able to keep ignoring it.

a few days later, a heavy summer storm rolled in, trapping you all inside of the house.

heeseung was glued to his video games as per usual, so you found yourself in the living room with jake.

the rain poured outside, creating a repetitive sound against the windows as the two of you sat on the couch, watching a movie.

at first, everything felt normal—comfortable, even.

but as the movie progressed, you found your mind drifting back to that night under the stars, to the way jake had held your hand and looked at you like you were the only person in the world.

the tension in the air was subtle but undeniably there.

you could feel it in the way your shoulders brushed against each other, in the way jake’s arm rested a little too close to yours on the couch.

every small movement felt charged, and you found yourself hyper-aware of his presence beside you.

eventually, the movie ended, and jake turned to you, his expression softer than usual.

“can i.. ask you something?”

you looked at him, your heart fluttering at the seriousness in his tone.

“of course.”

jake hesitated for a moment, as if he was gathering his thoughts.

then, he looked into your eyes, his voice quiet but steady.

“do you ever think about what it would be like… if things were different between us?”

your breath hitched at his words.

“what do you mean?”

jake’s gaze didn’t waver.

“i mean like… if we weren’t just friends.”

the room suddenly felt smaller, the air thicker.

your heart pounded in your chest as his words sank in.

you had been wondering the same thing for weeks now—maybe even longer.

but hearing him say it out loud made it real in a way that terrified you.

“i… i don’t know,” you whispered, though the truth was that you had thought about it more than you cared to admit.

you had imagined what it would be like to kiss him, to hold him, to be more than just heeseung’s little sister in his eyes.

jake’s expression softened, and he reached out, his hand gently cupping your cheek.

his touch was warm, comforting, and it made you lean into him despite the nervous energy bubbling in your chest.

“i think about it,” jake admitted, his voice barely above a whisper.

“a lot.”

the honesty in his words made your heart ache in the best way possible.

you wanted to say something—anything—to reassure him that you felt the same way.

but before you could speak, jake's thumb gently traced the curve of your jaw, the slightest touch sending shivers down your spine.

the soft glow of the tv reflected in his eyes, and for a moment, you forgot everything else—forgot the storm outside, forgot heeseung just down the hall, forgot the hesitation that had held you back for so long.

all you could focus on was jake—his face so close to yours, his breath mixing with yours in the small space between you.

the weight of the moment was almost too much to bear, your heart pounding in your chest as you waited for him to say something more, to do something more.

but instead of closing the distance between you, jake let his hand fall from your cheek, his expression shifting to something more uncertain.

he leaned back slightly, his eyes flickering away from yours as if he was suddenly unsure of himself.

“i don’t want to mess things up,” he murmured, almost to himself.

“i don’t want to… hurt you.”

his words hung heavy in the air, and for a moment, you felt a pang of disappointment that he had pulled back.

but then you realized that— he was afraid.

afraid of crossing a line that would change everything between you.

afraid of ruining the friendship that had been so carefully built over the years.

afraid of how his best friend would react to this, he was clueless in everything.

you reached out, placing your hand on top of his.

“jake, you won’t hurt me,” you said softly.

“i trust you.”

his eyes met yours again, and you saw the way his shoulders relaxed slightly at your words.

but still, there was a lingering hesitation in his gaze, as if he was weighing the consequences of what might happen next.

“i just… i’ve always wanted to protect you,” he said quietly.

“even when we were kids, and now… now it feels like there’s so much more at stake.”

you smiled gently, squeezing his hand.

“maybe that’s a good thing.”

jake looked at you for a long moment, the silence between you thick with unspoken feelings.

and then, just as you were about to say something more, the sound of heeseung’s door opening echoed down the hall.

jake pulled back completely, letting out a breath as he ran a hand through his hair.

you quickly shifted in your seat, trying to act as if nothing had happened, even though your heart was still racing in your chest.

heeseung wandered into the living room, oblivious to the tension that had just filled the tiny space.

“what are you guys up to?” he asked, stretching as he approached.

“just finished a movie,” jake said, his voice casual as ever, though you noticed the way he avoided looking directly at you.

heeseung plopped down on the couch between the two of you, completely unaware of the moment he had just interrupted.

“nice. anything good?”

you forced a smile, trying to shake off the lingering feelings from your conversation that had just took place with jake a couple seconds ago.

“yeah, it was pretty good.”

as heeseung started talking about his latest gaming obsession, you couldn’t help but glance over at jake.

he met your gaze briefly, a soft, almost apologetic smile playing on his lips.

it wasn’t much, but it was enough to remind you that the connection between you was still there—still real.

and despite the interruption, you knew that things had shifted.

the unspoken feelings between you had been acknowledged, even if neither of you had said it outright.

it was only a matter of time before everything would come to light.

weeks later, the town’s annual summer festival had finally arrived.

it was a lively event filled with bright lights, carnival rides, and food stalls that stretched along the main street.

heeseung had been excited about it for days, dragging you and jake along with him as soon as the sun began to set.

the three of you walked through the crowded streets together, the sound of laughter and music filling the air.

heeseung led the way, disappearing into a group of friends he spotted near one of the game booths.

you and jake followed behind, your shoulders brushing as you walked.

as you passed a small booth selling cotton candy, jake stopped suddenly, his eyes lighting up with a grin.

“remember when we used to beg our parents to buy this for us every year?”

you laughed, nodding.

“yeah, and they always said no because they didn’t want us to get a sugar crash.”

jake chuckled, then stepped up to the booth and bought a large stick of cotton candy.

he handed it to you with a smile.

“well— we’re adults now, and we can have as much as we want.”

you took the cotton candy from him, your fingers brushing against his.

the simple gesture made your heart race, and you found yourself smiling despite the nerves that still lingered between you.

“thanks,” you said softly, taking a small bite.

jake watched you with a fond expression, and for a moment, it felt like you were the only two people in the world.

the noise of the festival faded into the background, and all you could focus on was the way jake was looking at you—as if you were something precious.

without thinking, you reached up and tore off a small piece of the cotton candy, holding it out to him.

jake hesitated for only a second before leaning in and taking it from your fingers with a soft smile.

the gesture was innocent enough, but there was something intimate about it—something that made your heart flutter in your chest.

you could feel the tension building between you again, that familiar tension that had been growing stronger with each passing day.

as the night wore on, the festival became more crowded, and eventually, you found yourselves separated from heeseung.

jake stayed close by your side, his hand brushing against yours occasionally as you pushed your way through the sea of people.

when you reached a quieter part of the festival, near a small fountain surrounded by twinkling lights, jake stopped and turned to face you fully.

his expression was serious now, his eyes searching yours as if he was trying to find the right words.

“y/n,” he began softly, his voice barely audible over the distant sounds of the festival.

“i’ve been thinking a lot about what we talked about the other night.”

your heart skipped a beat. you knew exactly what he was referring to—the conversation in the living room, the moment when everything had almost changed between you.

jake took a step closer, his hand reaching out to gently cup your cheek.

his touch was warm, electrifying, and it made you lean into him instinctively.

“i need to say something, or im afraid i won’t be able to say it at all—“

before he could continue— the familiar voice made the both of you flinch back.

“where were you guys, i called your phones a million times!”

you blinked in disbelief— your brother had once again interrupted the moment.

“i didn’t notice, sorry hee..” you frantically explained, extremely flustered by the whole situation.

“well— it’s fine, let’s go to the dumpling stand!”

heeseung shouted excitedly as jake, once again had given you a sorry pout, making you giggle at the absurdity of your brothers timing.

a few days later, on one of the hottest summer evenings possible, you found yourself at a party that both jake and heeseung had invited you to.

the music was loud, the air thick with the scent of alcohol and sweat as you walked through the crowd.

you hadn’t seen jake in a while, and a small part of you had been looking for him, though you would never admit it to yourself.

finally, after what felt like hours, you spotted him across the room.

your heart skipped a beat at the sight of him—until you noticed the girl sitting right next to him, her arms draped around his shoulders as she whispered something into his ear.

he was smiling, that same smile he had been giving you all summer, and it felt like a punch to the gut.

all the unspoken tension, the stolen glances, the lingering touches—it all came crashing down as you stood there frozen, watching him with her.

had you misread everything? had he just been playing with you this whole time?

before you could stop yourself, tears welled up in your eyes, and you turned on your heel, pushing through the crowd as fast as you could.

you needed to get out of there— you couldn’t breathe, you couldn’t think.

all you knew was that you needed to get away from the sight of jake sim as soon as possible.

just as you made it to the door, you bumped into someone—heeseung.

his eyes immediately filled with concern as he saw the tears streaming down your face.

“hey, hey, what’s wrong?” he asked, his voice soft as he gently grabbed your shoulders, steering you outside where the cool night air hit your face.

“what happened?”

you shook your head, wiping at your tears, refusing to meet his gaze.

“i don’t want to talk about it.”

heeseung’s brow furrowed, his grip on your shoulders tightening slightly as he pulled you into a hug.

“is it because of jake?”

your breath hitched, and you froze in his arms.

how did he know? you hadn’t said anything to him about jake, not once.

heeseung sighed, pulling back slightly to look at you.

“i’ve always known, you know. you’re my baby sister. i could always tell when it comes to you.”

you bit your lip, fighting back more tears as you nodded, unable to find the words.

heeseung’s face softened, and he gently wiped away your tears with his thumb.

“i’ll talk to him,” he said softly.

“you go home and get some rest, okay? i’ll handle this.”

you quickly shook your head in denial.

“heeseung, you don’t have to—”

“i’m your brother,” he interrupted, his tone gentle but firm.

“of course i do.”

you couldn’t argue with that— so instead, you nodded, wrapping your arms around him in a tight hug.

“thank you. i love you, you’re the best older brother i could’ve ever asked for.”

heeseung smiled softly as he felt his own tears brimming in his eyes, pressing a kiss to the top of your head.

“i love you too, more than you’ll ever know.”

with one last comforting squeeze, he sent you off, and you walked home, the weight of your heartbreak heavy on your shoulders.

you couldn’t stop the tears from falling as you replayed the image of jake with that girl over and over in your mind.

meanwhile, back at the party, heeseung stormed back inside, anger coasting through his veins as his eyes scanned the crowd until he found jake in the corner, staring down at his phone with a smile.

without a second thought, heeseung grabbed jake by the collar, his fist connecting with his jaw before jake even had a chance to react.

“what the hell, man?!” jake exclaimed, stumbling back in shock, clutching his jaw.

“i always knew you had a thing for her,” heeseung growled, his voice low and dangerous.

“but i trusted you— i thought you’d never hurt her.”

“seriously— you think i didn’t notice what the two of you had going on this summer? and now you’re onto the next girl, huh?”

jake’s eyes widened in realization, the only girl he interacted with this evening— his face pale as he shook his head.

“no, god no— heeseung, it’s not what you think. it was a misunderstanding. that girl— it was yeji. you remember her, right? the one who always harassed me in high school?”

heeseung’s expression didn’t soften, but he didn’t say anything, allowing jake to continue.

“she’s been in love with me for years, and i was rejecting her, but i—i smiled because i felt bad. i wasn’t interested in her, i swear.” jake’s voice cracked as he ran a hand through his hair, his eyes filling with tears.

“i love her, heeseung. i love your sister. i’ve been in love with her since we were kids. i wanted to make things official, but now…i don’t know what to do.”

heeseung stared at jake for a long moment before letting out a deep sigh.

he patted jake on the back, his voice softening slightly.

“then fix it you brainless idiot, it’s not too late.”

jake didn’t need to be told twice— without another word, he bolted out of the party, sprinting towards your house as fast as his legs would carry him.

back at home, you were curled up in your bed, buried in the comfort of your blankets— the tears finally starting to slow as exhaustion took over.

you hadn’t expected to hear from jake again after what you saw, so when you heard a soft tapping on your window, your heart leapt in surprise.

you sat up, wiping at your eyes as you cautiously approached the window.

when you saw jake standing outside, his eyes wide and pleading, you hesitated for only a moment before opening it.

“what do you want, jake?” you asked, your voice thick with sadness.

“i need to explain,” he said quickly, climbing inside before you could shut the window again.

“please, just let me explain.”

you crossed your arms over your chest, trying to keep your walls up even though his presence made your heart ache.

“go ahead.”

jake took a deep breath, his voice shaking slightly as he began.

“that girl you saw me with…she’s not who i want. she never has been. she’s just someone from high school who’s had a crush on me for years, and i didn’t want to hurt her feelings, so i tried to let her down gently. but i swear, it was nothing.”

you didn’t say anything, your emotions swirling in a confusing mess as you tried to process his words.

jake stepped closer, his eyes softening as he reached for your hand.

“it’s always been you, princess— since we were kids. i’ve always been in love with you. and this summer…i thought maybe you felt the same way.”

your breath caught in your throat as his words sank in.

all the moments, the stolen glances, the lingering touches—it all made sense now.

but before you could say anything, jake cupped your face gently, his eyes searching yours with desperation.

“i love you,” he whispered.

“i’m so in love with you, it hurts.”

you didn’t let him finish— instead, you pulled him down into a kiss, pouring all of your emotions into it.

it was soft at first, even shy, but as jake’s arms wrapped around you, pulling you closer, it deepened into something more passionate—something that felt like all the pieces finally falling into place.

when you finally pulled away, both of you breathless, jake rested his forehead against yours, a soft smile playing on his lips.

“so…does that mean you feel the same?” he teased gently, though there was still a hint of uncertainty in his voice.

you smiled back, your heart feeling lighter than it had in days.

“yes, jake sim— you bastard, i do.”

୨୧ ‎이희승 ── 𝐋𝐄𝐄 𝐇𝐄𝐄𝐒𝐄𝐔𝐍𝐆

you and heeseung had been having a rough week. he had been busy with schedules, and you were busy drowning in your own work, leaving little time for the two of you to really connect.

when you finally had a day off together, you hoped it would be a chance to spend some long awaited quality time together, but it didn't go as planned.

you had been cooking dinner, trying to do something special to lighten the dull mood between you both, but heeseung was glued to his phone, responding to messages and scrolling through social media, barely sparing you a glance.

you tried to ignore it, reminding yourself that he was probably tired, but when you asked him if he could help set the table and he barely looked up, muttering something dismissive, frustration bubbled up inside you.

“heeseung, can we talk for a second?” you asked, trying to keep your voice calm.

“about what?” he sighed, still not fully putting his attention on you.

“about us,” you said quietly, putting down the wooden spoon you had been stirring with. ─── 𝙈𝙊𝙍𝙀 𝙐𝙉𝘿𝙀𝙍 𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝘾𝙐𝙏 !

“i feel like… like you haven’t been here with me lately. i know you're busy, but it feels like whenever we do have time together, you’re distant. like i’m the only one trying.”

that finally got his attention. he placed his phone down, but his expression was tired and frustrated.

“what are you talking about? i’m here, aren’t i? i’m sitting right here.”

“that’s not what i mean and you know it,” you said, hurt creeping into your voice. “i just… i miss you, heeseung. it feels like i’m always the one reaching out, trying to keep us connected, and you’re just… i don’t know, drifting away.”

heeseung rubbed his temples, the stress of the week weighing on him. he wasn’t in the mood to talk about emotions right now, especially when he felt like he was already giving everything he could.

“y/n, can you like..not do this right now? i’ve had a long day, and i don’t have the energy for this.”

your heart clenched at his dismissive tone. “this isn’t just about today, though,” you pressed gently.

“it’s been building up for a while now. i just… i need to know that you still care, that you still want this as much as i do.”

heeseung stood up abruptly, his chair scraping against the floor. he could feel the pressure building up inside him, and in a moment of frustration, he snapped.

“you’re so clingy! i can’t breathe without you wanting something from me. can’t you just leave me alone for once?”

the words had cut deep, freezing you in place. you stood there, staring at him, disbelief and hurt flashing across your face. you felt the sting of tears welling up, but you swallowed them down, refusing to let them fall in front of him.

“clingy?” you repeated softly, more to yourself than to him. you took a step back, your hands falling to your sides, trembling. “i… i didn’t know you felt that way.”

heeseung’s anger disappeared the moment he saw the look on your face. the realization of what he had just said hit him like a ton of bricks.

he hadn’t meant it. not at all. he was just frustrated and overwhelmed, but that didn’t excuse the fact that he had just hurt the person he loved most. “y/n, wait—”

but you were already turning away, your shoulders hunched as you walked out of the tension filled kitchen.

he heard the soft click of the bedroom door closing behind you, and the silence that followed was suffocating.

heeseung stood there, frozen for a moment, his heart pounding with regret. he pushed a hand through his hair, cursing himself under his breath. how could he have said something so cruel and mean to you? you were just trying to talk, trying to reach out to him, and he had shut you down in the worst way possible.

after pacing back and forth in the living room for what felt like forever, heeseung couldn’t take it anymore. he needed to fix this. he couldn’t let the argument hang in the air between you both like a dark cloud.

he approached the bedroom door hesitantly and knocked softly. “y/n?” he called out gently, but there was no response.

he tried again, this time opening the door just a crack. he saw you lying on the bed, your back to the door, curled up tightly in the blankets piled on top of you.

his chest ached in complete and utter regret seeing you like this, knowing that he was the reason for your pain. slowly, he walked into the room, sitting down on the edge of the bed. for a moment, he just sat there, unsure of how to begin. the words felt heavy in his throat, but he knew he had to say them.

“y/n,” he whispered softly, his voice thick with emotion. “i’m so sorry.” he waited for a response, but when none came, he continued.

“i didn’t mean what i said. you’re not clingy, and you don’t suffocate me. i was just… i don’t know. i’ve been feeling overwhelmed lately, but that’s no excuse to take it out on you.”

he reached out, hesitating for a second before gently placing his hand on your arm. “please, can we talk? i know i hurt you, and i’ll do anything to make it right. i love you so much, and i hate that i made you feel this way.”

you remained quiet for a few moments, your back still turned to him. heeseung’s heart pounded in his chest as he waited, afraid that you might not forgive him.

but then, slowly, you turned around to face him. your eyes were red and puffy from crying, and the sight made his heart twist with guilt.

“you really hurt me this time, heeseung,” you said quietly, your voice trembling.

“i wasn’t trying to be clingy. i was just trying to tell you how i felt.”

“i know, baby..” he said softly, scooting closer to you on the bed. “and i’m so sorry. you didn’t deserve that. i should’ve listened to you instead of shutting you out. i love you, y/n, and i want to be better for you.”

you looked at him for a long moment, searching his eyes for sincerity. finally, you let out a small sigh and nodded, though the hurt was still lingering in your eyes.

“i just need you to be more present with me,” you whispered. “i don’t need grand gestures, just… your attention, and your time.”

heeseung reached out and pulled you into his arms, holding you tightly against his chest. “i promise,” he murmured into your hair.

“i’ll do better. i’ll make more time for us. you’re the most important thing to me, and i don’t want you to ever feel like you have to fight for my attention. i’m here, y/n. i love you.”

as he held you in his arms, you could feel the sincerity in his words. the hurt was still there—no doubt, but the warmth of his embrace and the steady beat of his heart against yours slowly began to soothe the ache of the pain.

you wrapped your arms around him, burying your face in his chest. “i love you too, heeseung,” you whispered, the words muffled but heartfelt.

the two of you stayed like that, wrapped up in each other. the argument was still fresh, but the love between you both was stronger. heeseung gently stroked your hair, pressing soft kisses to your forehead as he whispered promises to never take you for granted again. it wasn’t a perfect fix, but it was the first step toward healing.

you and jay didn’t argue often. he was usually always calm, collected, and understanding, but everyone has their breaking points, and tonight, jay unfortunately reached his. it started with something small—just a simple misunderstanding, but it quickly spiraled into a full-blown argument.

you had been frustrated about him coming home late for the third night in a row without letting you know. you didn’t mind that he was busy, you just wanted him to communicate with you. but he didn’t see it that way.

“you never tell me when you’re going to be late, jay,” you said, trying to keep your voice steady, though frustration couldn’t help but seep through.

“it feels like you don’t care enough to even send a message.”

jay let out a tired sigh, tossing his jacket onto the couch. he had been running on very little to few hours of sleep for the past few days, and the last thing he needed was an argument with you. “i’ve been busy, y/n. it’s not that deep. i’m doing my best, okay?”

“your best?” you echoed, your heart tightening. “i’m really not asking for much, jay. just a simple text so i’m not left wondering when you’ll come home. i’m tired of feeling like i’m the last priority.”

jay’s patience was wearing thin. he felt like no matter what he did, it wasn’t enough. “you’re overreacting,” he snapped, his voice sharp.

“you act like i’m purposely ignoring you. maybe i don’t text because i don’t want to deal with this constant nagging every time i’m a little late.”

your breath caught in your throat at the word "nagging." it was like a slap to the face. you stood there, stunned, the hurt quickly welling up inside of you.

“nagging?” you repeated quietly. “that’s how you see it?”

jay realized his mistake the moment the words left his mouth. he hadn’t meant to use that word. he knew it wasn’t fair to you, especially when all you wanted was a little consideration.

but it was too late. he saw the pain in your eyes as you turned away from him, trying to hide the tears that had started to form.

“y/n, wait—” jay stepped forward, reaching out to you, but you shook your head, holding up a hand to stop him.

“no,” you said softly, your voice barely above a whisper. “i just need some space right now, okay?”

you walked away, leaving him standing alone in the living room, the weight of his words hanging heavy in the air. jay ran a hand through his hair, frustration and guilt mixing together.

he hadn’t meant any of it. he knew you weren’t nagging—you were just asking for something simple. he had let his exhaustion and frustration get the best of him, and now he had hurt you.

jay paced in the living room for a few minutes, replaying the argument in his mind. every second that passed only made him feel worse.

how could he have let it escalate like that? you didn’t deserve to feel like you were nagging him just for asking for basic communication.

finally, after giving you some time to cool off, jay decided he couldn’t let the night end like this. he knocked gently on the bedroom door before slowly opening it.

you were sitting on the edge of the bed, your face buried in your hands. his heart broke seeing you like that.

“y/n, honey..” he said softly, stepping into the room. “can i come in?”

you didn’t respond, but you didn’t tell him to leave either, so he took that as a sign to approach. he sat down beside you hesitantly, keeping a respectful distance, not wanting to invade your space.

“i’m sorry,” he said, his voice sincere and filled with regret. “i shouldn’t have said what i did. you’re not nagging me. you’re just asking for something simple, and i failed to see that because i was too caught up in my own stress. it wasn’t fair to you.”

you stayed silent for a moment before finally lifting your head to look at him. your eyes were red from crying, and the sight only made jay feel worse.

“i wasn’t trying to make your life harder,” you said quietly. “i just wanted to know that you care enough to let me know when you’re going to be late. i didn’t think that would be too much to ask.”

“it’s not honey, you were right..” jay agreed, his heart heavy with guilt. “it’s not too much at all. i’ve been so caught up in everything else that i lost sight of what really matters—you. i promise i’ll do better. i’ll text you, i’ll communicate more, and i’ll make sure you never feel like an afterthought again. i’m so sorry for making you feel like i didn’t care.”

you could hear the sincerity in his voice, and though the hurt was still there, you could see that he truly regretted his words. you took a deep breath and nodded slowly.

“i just need you to be more present with me,” you said. “that’s all i ask.”

jay reached out hesitantly, gently taking your hand in his. “i promise,” he said softly, giving your hand a reassuring squeeze.

“i’ll be more present. you mean everything to me, y/n. i love you, and i never want to make you feel like this again.”

you looked into his eyes and saw the honesty there. the warmth of his hand holding yours helped soothe some of the hurt, and though it would take time to fully heal and get over his hurtful words, you knew jay was committed to making things right.

“i love you too,” you whispered, leaning into him. he wrapped his arms around you, pulling you close as he pressed a gentle kiss to your forehead. “thank you for listening.”

“always,” he murmured, holding you tightly against him. “i’ll always listen. i promise.”

jake had always been your rock—kind, supportive, and gentle. but even the most patient people had their moments, and tonight was one of those rare nights where the tension between you two came to a head.

the argument started because of miscommunication. jake had promised to join you for a special dinner you’d planned, but he ended up canceling last minute due to a last-minute meeting.

you understood that his schedule was most of the time unpredictable, but this was the third time this month, and you just couldn’t help but feel neglected.

“i just wish you’d let me know earlier,” you said, trying to stay calm, though frustration was evident in your voice. “i spent the whole day preparing for tonight, and now you’re telling me last minute that you can’t make it?”

jake sighed, running a hand through his hair. he was exhausted from the long day he went though and simply didn’t have the energy for an argument.

“i told you, y/n, it wasn’t in my control. my schedule changed, and i didn’t know until the last minute. it’s not like i wanted to cancel.”

“i’m not saying you wanted to,” you replied, feeling your own patience starting to thin. “but it feels like i’m the one who’s always adjusting for you. you don’t even try to make it up to me afterward. it’s like my efforts don’t matter.”

that hit a nerve. jake had been stretched thin lately, trying to juggle everything, and the idea that you thought he didn’t care about your efforts made him snap.

“do you have any idea how hard i’m trying to balance everything?” he snapped, his voice harsher than he intended.

“it’s not like i’m just sitting around doing nothing. maybe you need to stop being so needy all the time. not everything revolves around you.”

the second those words left his mouth, jake instantly regretted them. he watched as your face fell, your expression crumpling as you processed what he just said. you took a step back, hurt and disbelief written all over your face.

“needy?” you whispered, your voice barely audible. “i’m needy for wanting to spend time with you? for wanting to be a priority in your life?”

jake felt his heart drop to his stomach as he saw tears welling up in your eyes. he had never meant to hurt you like this. you didn’t say another word before turning on your heel and walking out of the room. the sound of the door softly closing behind you felt like a slap to the face, leaving jake standing there, filled with regret.

he stood there in silence, replaying the argument in his mind. how could he have said something so hurtful to you? you weren’t needy. you just wanted his time and attention, and he had failed to give that to you. he realized how unfair he had been, taking out his stress on you— neglecting you instead of communicating properly.

after a few minutes of wrestling with his guilt, jake couldn’t take it anymore. he needed to fix this. he found you sitting on the edge of the bed, your head in your hands, shoulders shaking with silent sobs. the sight of you crying because of him made his chest ache.

he approached slowly, kneeling down in front of you. “baby,” he said softly, his voice thick with remorse. “i’m so, so sorry.” he reached for your hands, gently pulling them away from your face so he could look at you.

“i didn’t mean what i said. you’re not needy— not at all.. i was just frustrated and stressed, but that’s no excuse for saying something so hurtful.”

you looked down at him, your eyes red and swollen from crying. “it really hurt, jake,” you whispered. “all i wanted was to spend some time with you, and you made me feel like i was asking for too much.”

jake’s heart clenched at your words. he squeezed your hands tightly, his voice filled with regret.

“you weren’t asking for too much. i was being selfish and insensitive. i’ve been so caught up in everything else that i lost sight of what really matters—us. i don’t want you to ever feel like you’re not important to me, because you are. you’re the most important person in my life.”

you sniffled, wiping your eyes with the back of your hand as you listened to his apology. “i just feel like i’m always the one compromising, and i’m starting to feel like i don’t matter as much.”

jake shook his head, his expression serious. “you do matter. more than anything. i’ve just been overwhelmed lately, but that’s no excuse. i should’ve been more considerate of your feelings.”

he hesitated for a moment before continuing, “i’ll make it up to you, y/n. i’ll plan a special day just for us, and i promise i’ll communicate better. i never want you to feel like you’re the only one trying.”

you looked into his eyes, searching for sincerity, and you could see how much he truly regretted his words. though the pain was still fresh, his heartfelt apology soothed some of the hurt.

“i just want us to be a team,” you said quietly. “i don’t want to feel like i’m always on the sidelines, waiting for you to make time for me.”

jake nodded, his grip on your hands tightening as he leaned closer. “i want that too,” he said with desperation.

“i’m going to do better, i promise. i love you, y/n. please, forgive me for what i said.”

you could see the sincerity in his eyes, and though it would take time to fully forgive jake and the hurt he had unintentionally caused you, you knew jake meant every word.

slowly, you nodded, giving him a small, shy smile. “i forgive you,” you whispered.

jake let out a breath he didn’t realize he was holding, relief flooding through him. he pulled you into his arms, holding you tightly as if he was afraid to let you go.

“thank you, my love—” he murmured into your hair. “i’ll spend the rest of my life making sure you never feel like that again.”

you hugged him back, resting your head against his chest as you both sat there in silence, wrapped in each other’s warmth.

the arguments words still lingered in the air, but you two were strong enough to overcome it.

jake pressed a soft kiss to your forehead, promising himself that he would never let his frustrations get in the way of your relationship again.

sunghoon had always been reserved. he wasn’t the type to express his feelings openly, he struggled— and while you understood that when you first got together, lately, his coldness had started to weigh on you.

you couldn’t remember the last time he had initiated affection—a hug, a kiss, even holding hands.

it felt like he was pulling further and further away, and you couldn’t help but feel like maybe you were the problem.

one evening, after a long day of feeling emotionally distant from him, you finally decided to talk to him about it.

you had been sitting together on the couch, watching a movie in silence, and though you were physically close, the emotional gap between you felt like an ocean.

“hoon,” you said softly, turning to face him. “can we talk?”

he glanced at you, his expression neutral, as if he wasn’t sure what you were going to say.

“what’s on your mind?” he asked, his voice calm but distant.

you took a deep breath, trying to gather your thoughts. “lately, it feels like… you’re not really here with me,” you said carefully.

“i..i know you’re not the most affectionate person, but it’s been hard, sunghoon. i miss you. i miss the way we used to be.”

sunghoon sighed, as if your words had no affect—leaning back against the couch. “i’m still here,” he said simply, his tone almost indifferent. “i haven’t gone anywhere.”

“but that’s the thing,” you replied, your voice trembling. “it feels like you have. you’re here physically, but emotionally… it’s like you’ve shut me out. i can’t even remember the last time you kissed me or held me without me asking first.”

his jaw tightened at your words, frustration flickering in his eyes. “i’m not good at that stuff, y/n. you know that,” he said, his voice cold. “it doesn’t mean i don’t care about you.”

“i know you’re not good at it,” you said, tears pricking at your eyes. “but i need it, sunghoon. i need to feel loved. i need to feel like you still want me. right now, it just feels like you don’t care.”

sunghoon stood up, running a hand through his hair, his irritation evident. “why do you need constant reassurance?” he snapped, his voice sharper than he intended. “why isn’t it enough that i’m here? isn’t that enough proof that i care?”

you felt your heart sink at his words, the tears you had been holding back finally spilling over. “because just being here isn’t enough!” you cried, standing up to face him.

“i need more than that, sunghoon. i need affection. i need to feel like i matter to you.”

he stood there, his expression cold and hardened, and for a moment, you wondered if he would say anything at all. but then, instead of comforting you, he lashed out.

“maybe you’re being too needy,” he said bluntly.

“i don’t see why i have to constantly prove myself to you.”

you felt like the air had been knocked out of you. his words stung deeply, cutting through you like a knife. without another word, you turned away from him, walking quickly to the bedroom and shutting the door behind you.

you didn’t want him to see you cry—not after what he had just said.

sunghoon stood there in the living room, watching you leave, and the realization of what he had just said hit him like a ton of bricks. his chest tightened with regret.

he knew he wasn’t the most affectionate person, but hearing you say how much it hurt you—that you felt unloved—made him realize how much he had been neglecting your needs.

and worse, he had just pushed you away even further with his harsh words.

after a few minutes of mentally scolding himself over his mistake, sunghoon couldn’t take the silence any longer. he walked to the bedroom and knocked gently on the door, his heart racing.

“y/n,” he called out softly, his voice filled with regret and longing. “can i come in?”

there was a pause, and then your voice came through, quiet and shaky. “come in.”

sunghoon opened the door and stepped inside. you were sitting on the edge of the bed, your face buried in your hands, your shoulders shaking with quiet sobs.

seeing you like that—so hurt, so vulnerable—made his chest ache with guilt. he walked over to you slowly, sitting down beside you.

“y/n,” he said softly, his voice thick with remorse. “i’m so sorry. what i said… it was wrong. you’re not needy. you just want to feel loved, and i haven’t been giving you that. i’ve been cold and distant, and that’s not fair to you.”

you didn’t say anything at first, but you slowly lifted your head to look at him, your eyes red from crying. “i just… i don’t understand why it’s so hard for you to show affection,” you whispered. “i feel like i’m the only one trying, and it’s exhausting.”

sunghoon’s heart broke at your words. he reached out hesitantly, taking your hand in his. “it’s not that i don’t want to show you affection,” he said quietly.

“i’m just not used to it. but that doesn’t mean i don’t care. i love you, y/n. i love you more than anything. i just… i’ve been so caught up in my own head, and i’ve forgotten to show you that.”

you looked into his eyes, searching for sincerity, and you could see how much he truly regretted his words and actions. “i just need to feel like you still want me,” you said softly. “that you still care.”

“i do care,” sunghoon said earnestly, squeezing your hand gently. “i’m going to do better, i promise. i’ll show you that i love you. i don’t want to lose you because of my own issues. you mean too much to me.”

you could hear the sincerity in his voice, and though the pain was still fresh in your mind, his apology filled you with the warmth you were longing for.

slowly, you nodded, giving him a small, accepting smile.

“i just want us to be okay,” you whispered.

sunghoon gently pulled you into his arms, holding you close as he pressed a soft kiss to the top of your head. “we will be,” he murmured. “i’ll make sure of it. i love you so much, y/n.”

“i love you too,” you whispered back, resting your head against his chest. the warmth of his embrace helped to ease the tension, and though the argument still lingered in your mind, you knew the two of you could overcome it.

sunghoon held you close, silently vowing to never let his coldness create distance between you two again. from that moment on, he promised himself he would show you the love you deserved—because you were worth every effort.

the soft rhythm of rain pattering against the window did little to soothe the tension that currently filled the air. the usually warm and inviting space between you and sunoo felt cold now, filled with unspoken words and lingering frustration.

you sat on the couch, your arms crossed, staring at the floor, trying to process what had just happened.

sunoo, usually the one to lighten the mood with a smile or playful tendencies, was pacing back and forth, his face hardened with a rare expression of anger.

the argument had started small—about how distant he had been lately, how he seemed to brush off your attempts to talk. you hadn’t expected him at all to lash out the way he had.

“i just don’t understand why you have to make everything about you,” sunoo snapped, stopping in his tracks to face you. his words were like a slap to the face, sharp and cutting.

you blinked in shock, the air knocked out of your lungs for a moment. sunoo had never spoken to you like this before. “what?” you whispered, your voice barely audible as you tried to comprehend the seriousness of his words. ─── 𝘔𝘖𝘙𝘌 𝘜𝘕𝘋𝘌𝘙 𝘛𝘏𝘌 𝘊𝘜𝘛 !

sunoo ran a hand through his hair, his frustration evident in the way his fingers tugged at the strands.

“literally every single time something happens, it’s always about your feelings, your needs. you don’t think about how i’m feeling, how much pressure i’m under.”

you swallowed hard, the lump in your throat growing as his words sunk in. “that’s not fair, sunoo..” you said, your voice trembling.

“i do care about you, sunoo. i’ve been trying to be there for you, but you— you keep pushing me away, what else do you want me to do?”

his eyes flickered with something—regret, maybe—but it was quickly replaced by the same hardened expression. “maybe i’m pushing you away because i can’t deal with everything right now, i can’t be what you need me to be.”

the words hit you like a punch to the gut, and you felt tears welling up in your eyes. you had always known sunoo to be gentle, always considerate of your feelings.

hearing him say something so hurtful felt like the ground had shifted beneath you, like you didn’t recognize the person you were talking to anymore.

“so what? you’re just going to shut me out? push me away because it’s easier than dealing with your feelings?”

sunoo’s jaw clenched, and for a moment, you could see the walls he had put up to protect himself. but instead of softening, he shook his head, the frustration still evident in his voice.

“maybe i just need space,” he said coldly. “if you used your brain—maybe you’d realize that i just can’t handle being around you right now.”

the room fell into an eery silence, the weight of his words hanging heavily in the air. you felt like your heart had been ripped out of your chest, and stomped on. you stood up, your legs shaky as you tried to steady yourself.

“if that’s really how you feel,” you whispered, your voice barely above a breath,

“then maybe we need to take a break.”

sunoo’s eyes widened at your words, and for a split second, the anger on his face was replaced by fear.

“w-wait,” he said, his voice softening, almost panicked. “that’s not what i meant, y/n. i just… i’m just frustrated.”

you shook your head, wiping at the tears that had started to fall down your cheeks. “you don’t get to take it back now, sunoo. you don’t get to say something like that and take it back— pretend it didn’t happen, pretend it didn’t hurt.”

he looked at you, his expression crumbling as he realized just how severe this was—how badly he had messed up.

the anger and frustration that had fueled the argument faded, replaced by regret and a deep sense of guilt.

he took a small step toward you, his hand reaching out as if to close the distance between you. “y/n, please,” he whispered, his voice filled with desperation. “i didn’t mean it. i’m so sorry.”

you looked away, not wanting to let him see how much his words had affected you. but you couldn’t ignore the way his voice cracked, the way his eyes pleaded with you to forgive him.

slowly, you turned back to face him, your heart aching at the sight of his tear-filled eyes.

“i never wanted to hurt you,” sunoo whispered, his voice barely above a whisper now. he took another step closer, his hand finally finding yours.

his touch was gentle, hesitant, as if he was afraid you might pull away. “i was just frustrated, overwhelmed. but that’s no excuse for the things i said.”

you let out a shaky breath, your heart softening at his words. his eyes, usually so full of light and warmth, were now clouded with regret and sorrow.

he squeezed your hand gently, his thumb brushing over your knuckles in a soothing gesture.

“i love you,” he whispered, his voice thick with emotion. “i love you so much, and the last thing i want is to push you away. i’ve just been struggling lately, and i didn’t know how to talk to you about it— but i need you. i can’t do this alone.”

you looked up at him, your tears mixing with his as he leaned his forehead against yours. his breath was warm against your skin, and for a moment, the world around you seemed to fade away, leaving just the two of you.

“i’m sorry too,” you whispered, your voice soft and steady. “i shouldn’t have pushed you to talk when you weren’t ready. but i’m here for you, sunoo. i always will be.”

he closed his eyes, a soft, relieved smile tugging at the corner of his lips as he pulled you into his arms, holding you tightly against his chest.

“thank you,” he murmured, his voice barely audible over the sound of the rain outside.

“thank you for not giving up on me.”

and as you stood there in his embrace, the warmth of his body surrounding you, you knew that no matter what, you would always find your way back to each other.

the quiet comfort of knowing that your love for each other was stronger than any argument, any painful words was more than anything.

the slam of the door echoed through the room, cutting through the silence like a blade— jungwon had never been the one to lose his temper, always calm and collected even in the most stressful of situations.

but tonight, something had snapped. you sat on the edge of the bed, your arms wrapped tightly around yourself as you tried to process what had just happened.

jungwon stood by the door, his hands clenched into fists at his sides, his breathing heavy with frustration.

his face was flushed with red cheeks— visible anger, a sharp contrast to the gentle leader you were so used to.

he had been distant for weeks, buried in the pressures of his responsibilities, and when you had finally attempted to confront him about it, things had quickly spiraled out of control.

“i don’t need you telling me how to handle my problems!” he had yelled, his voice louder than you ever heard it before. the words had hit you like a punch to the gut, leaving you breathless and heartbroken.

you had stood there in shock, unable to believe that the person you loved, the person who had always been your source of comfort, could say something so hurtful.

“jungwon,” you had whispered, your voice trembling, “i’m— i’m just trying to help.”

but he had shaken his head in rejection, his eyes cold and distant. “i don’t need your help,” he had snapped. “i can handle this on my own, i’m not a child!”

those words had cut deeper than you wanted to admit, and for a moment, you had considered walking out of the room, leaving him to cool off on his own.

but something had stopped you—maybe it was the look in his eyes, the way they flickered with a visible regret even as he tried to hold on to his anger.

now, the silence between you was heavy, filled with the weight of everything that had been said.

you sat there, your heart aching with the pain of his rejection, wondering if this was the moment that everything would come crumbling apart.

jungwon’s shoulders slumped as he let out a heavy sigh, the anger slowly draining from his body as if something had snapped him back to his senses.

he turned to face you, his expression softening as he saw the hurt in your eyes. “y/n,” he said quietly, his voice barely above a whisper, “i’m.. sorry.”

you looked up at him, your eyes searching his face for any sign of the warmth that you had grown so accustomed to.

he took a hesitant step towards you, his hand reaching out as if to close the distance between you.

“i didn’t mean it baby,” he continued, his voice filled with regret. “i was angry, and i said things i didn’t mean.”

you swallowed hard, the lump in your throat making it difficult to speak. “you said you didn’t need me,” you whispered, your voice trembling with sadness.

“is that how you really feel? be honest with me, please jungwon..”

jungwon’s eyes widened in shock, his face paling as he realized the gravity of what he had said.

he rushed over to you, dropping to his knees in front of you as he took your hands in his, holding them tightly.

“no,” he said quickly, his voice urgent. “no, y/n—that’s not how i feel at all. i need you, y/n. i need you more than anything.”

you looked down at him, your heart aching as you saw the desperation in his eyes. he squeezed your hands gently, his voice softening as he continued.

“i’ve just been so overwhelmed lately, and i didn’t know how to deal with it. but that’s no excuse for the way i treated you. you’ve always been there for me, and i took that for granted. i’m so sorry.”

tears welled up in your eyes as you listened carefully to his words, your heart softening at the sincerity in his voice.

you could see how much he regretted what he had said, and as he looked up at you, his eyes filled with guilt and love, you knew that he meant every word. “i don’t want to fight with you anymore,” you whispered, your voice cracking with emotion. “i just want us to be okay.”

jungwon nodded, his eyes filled with determination as he leaned closer to you, resting his forehead gently against yours.

“we will be,” he promised softly, his breath warm against your skin. “i’ll make sure of it. i love you, y/n. i never want to hurt you again.”

you closed your eyes, the warmth of his presence slowly easing the tension in your body. you leaned into his touch, allowing yourself to believe in the promise he had made.

“i love you too,” you whispered, your voice barely audible as you pressed a soft kiss to his forehead.

jungwon smiled softly, his hands wrapping around your waist as he pulled you into his arms, holding you tightly against his chest.

and as you rested your head against him, feeling the steady beat of his heart beneath your cheek, you knew that the two of you would be okay.

the living room was bathed in a warm, soft light, the kind that made everything seem cozy and inviting.

riki was lounging comfortably on the couch, his posture relaxed as he swiped through his phone. you had been looking forward to this evening with him, hoping for a break from the long, stressful day at work.

you needed a moment to unwind, to be taken care of, and maybe find comfort in riki's company as you often usually did.

you started explaining a story about your day, one that had been particularly frustrating.

you had been in a meeting when you’d accidentally spilled coffee all over your blouse, and the embarrassment had been the last straw in an already horrendous day.

as you spoke, you tried to find some humor in the story, hoping that a bit of laughter would help lift your dull spirit.

riki looked up from his phone, a smirk playing at the corners of his lips. “seriously?” he said, his voice dripping with amusement.

“you’re so clumsy— it’s like you’re a walking disaster. what’s next? tripping over your own feet and traumatizing your boss next?”

the words felt had felt like salt on an open wound. what was meant to be a lighthearted moment turned into a public shaming, and the frustration from your day turned into a deep, gnawing hurt.

you tried to laugh it off, but it came out as more of a strained sound. “yeah, i guess i’m just having a bad day,” you said, your voice lacking its usual warmth.

riki didn’t seem to notice your discomfort. instead, he leaned back, clearly enjoying his own joke.

“you know,” he said, his tone still teasing, “it’s not like this is the first time, you’re always doing stuff like this— maybe you should get used to it.”

the comment stung sharply, more than he probably realized. your face flushed with a mix of embarrassment and anger.

it was as if his words were mocking your genuine feelings of frustration and helplessness. “riki, that’s really not funny,” you said, trying to keep your voice steady.

“i’m already feeling pretty down about today.”

he looked at you with a raised eyebrow, as if he were surprised by your reaction. “come on, it’s just a joke,” he said, shrugging nonchalantly.

“why are you making such a big deal out of it?”

the dismissiveness in his tone was like a slap to the face. you felt your chest tighten, the hurt from his words mixing with the frustration of your day.

“it’s not just about this joke,” you said, your voice trembling slightly. “it’s how you always do this. you think it’s okay to make fun of me all the time, but it’s not.”

riki’s expression quickly shifted from amusement to irritation. he sat up straighter, his casual demeanor replaced by a defensive stance.

“seriously?” he said, his tone growing sharper. “you’re overreacting. i’m just trying to lighten the mood, and you’re taking it way too personally.”

the weight of his words was crushing. you stood up abruptly, unable to sit still any longer, the tears you had been holding back now threatening to spill.

“it’s not just about this one time, riki,” you said, your voice rising with the intensity of your emotions.

“it’s a pattern— you make these jokes, and it feels like you don’t care about how your words affect me. i’m trying to share my feelings, and all i get is more ridicule, of course— jokes are fine but sometimes you go way too far..”

riki’s eyes flashed with a mixture of frustration and confusion. “so what, you want me to just be serious all the time?” he asked, his voice tinged with a hint of annoyance.

“you know i’m not like that. i thought we had a sense of humor about these things.”

the hurt was beginning to feel overwhelming, and you could feel the tears beginning to fall. “it’s not about being serious all the time,” you said, your voice cracking.

“it’s about respect. i need to feel like my feelings matter, not like they’re just something for you to joke about.”

riki’s expression softened as he saw the tears in your eyes. his defensiveness began to fade, replaced by a genuine look of remorse.

“i didn’t realize it was this serious,” he said quietly, running a hand through his hair as if trying to process your words.

“i thought i was just being funny.. i never meant to hurt you.”

you shook your head, trying to wipe away the glossy tears that had begun to fall down your cheeks.

“it’s not just about tonight,” you said, your voice filled with pain. “it’s about how you often make these ‘jokes’— they make me feel like my feelings aren’t valid. i need you to understand that your words can have a real impact on me, especially since your opinion is the only one i care for.”

riki took a deep breath, stepping closer to you. his face was a mix of guilt and concern, and he reached out to gently take your hands in his.

“i’m really sorry,” he said softly, his voice filled with sincerity. “i didn’t mean to make you feel this way.. i see now that i’ve been crossing a line. i thought i was just teasing, but i can see how it came across— it was never my intention to hurt you baby..”

you looked up at him, seeing the genuine regret in his eyes. his earlier irritation had been replaced by a heartfelt apology, and you could feel the weight of the argument disappearing.

“thank you for understanding, ki..” you said quietly. “i just need us to communicate better, to be more considerate of each other’s feelings.”

riki nodded, his expression soft as he squeezed your hands gently. “i promise,” he said, his voice steady.

“i’ll be more mindful of what i say—i never want to be the reason you’re upset. i care about you too much for that.”

you took a breath, feeling a sense of relief wash over you. riki pulled you into his arms, holding you close as if to offer reassurance.

his embrace was warm and comforting, a visible contrast to the sharp words that had been exchanged earlier.

“i’m really sorry for what i said,” he murmured into your hair, his voice filled with regret.

“i never meant to hurt you. i’ll work on being more considerate and understanding.”

you rested your head against his chest, the steady rhythm of his heartbeat grounding you as you tried to calm the racing thoughts lingering in your head.

“i love you, riki,” you whispered, your voice soft and vulnerable. “i think we just need to be more in touch with each other’s feelings, to be supportive in ways that really matter.”

riki pressed a gentle kiss to the top of your head, his touch comforting as he continued to hold you close. “i love you too,” he said softly.

“and i promise to be more mindful of how i speak to you— i never want to make you feel like your feelings aren’t valid.”

as you stood there in riki’s embrace, the tension between you disappeared, replaced by a deeper understanding and connection.

the situation had been difficult for the both of you, but it had also led to the two of you growing closer— you knew that despite the hurtful moments and misunderstandings, your relationship would continue blossoming.
