You know what tears my heart apart?
The fact the men of easy company grew up with fathers who struggled with PTSD from the Great War. The fact they lived through an economic depression when they were too young to understand that money held that much value. That most of them dropped out of middle school or high school to help their families at home. That they were willing to give up college or high school educations to fight for their country. That they survived the war and lived with PTSD that their fathers lived with. When they finally settled down and had kids, their kids enlisted in another war their country decided to fight. When they knew they couldn’t stop their sons from enlisting, they wished them luck and wished for them to come back. They watched helplessly as another generation of men in their family struggled the same way they did. Happy Father’s Day you heroes. We don’t deserve you.
