Give me your secret hcs/ideas that youre gate keeping rn pretty please🤲🥺(🧟‍♂️)

I'm gonna use this as an opportunity for yapping about the Lestrange brothers because yes.

Lestrange Brothers

Rodolphus wants to be Rabastan's keeper, care for his twin brother, and have that bond commonly taught to pureblood twins in their society. But they will always be brothers and not twins. Rabastan embodies the dirtiness of their society (the bloodshed, the unequal power dynamics, the favoritism, etc.) and Rodolphus embodies the desires of the society (wealth, attention, praise, fame, etc.). They are different down to their bones from the moment they were born where that one hour separated their birthdays into one night and one day instead of just one night.

Even on the outside, they are fraternal twins and look alike only in a "brothers" sense instead of identical twins, which are the most common. Rabastan is covered in silver like a knight and Rodolphus is draped in gold like a wealthy king. Rabastan's clothes are mostly black and blend in while Rodolphus is covered in decorative beads and bright embroidery. When you see them, your attention is immediately facing Rodolphus.

I know from the way I describe it, that it feels like Rabastan is this outsider/black sheep, but I don't see it all. I've mentioned this before but Rabastan is very likable compared to Rodolphus, who is often serious and stoic, making him only respectable, but not particularly likable. Rabastan is very expressive (it is sort of stated in the books during his trial in 1981 lol. He doesn't have a lot of canon information so I had to work around what I could on the HP wiki and books. But this also means I see him as a very easily nervous person lol, esp if he's not in control of a situation. Poor guy has terrible anxiety) and a cool personality that a lot of pureblood witches and wizards rather like (rich college dude in 2000s movies- WHO SAID THAT).

Anyways, their interactions are actually pretty limited. Rodolphus is often busy with other things and Rabastan likes to chill by himself or with Regulus while creating new spells. When they do interact, Rabastan feels sort of uncomfortable because he feels like he's disappointing Rodolphus in one way or another while Rodolphus is sort of at a loss of what to say and kinds of leaves it as a comfortable silence. Rabastan loves his brother but can only really do so at a distance. Rodolphus loves his brother but can do so in silence because that's what he's used to from the Lestranges. Which Rabastan doesn't really work well with.

Deep down, they love each other, it's just really different for them. Rodolphus lets Rabastan have as much freedom as he wishes, defends his every action from critique, and puts his entire life and trust into Rabastan's hand while Rabastan willingly throws himself near death doors for Rodolphus, lets his brother pull from the doorstep, and watches where Rodolphus can't. There is a deep-rooted trust formed from early boyhood with scrapped knees and gently pulling splinters from under fingernails with hushed comforts. It never fully goes away and Rabastan dies with it in his heart while Rodolphus carries it for the rest of his life.

i think you should totally drop whatever hc/ideas you have lying around honestly...i would love to see more into ur brain...pls <33

:DD

Hi!!!! Sorry this is a little late, I got so distracted with an animatic im working on(😈) and then a stupid essay😭😭 being honest rn... Almost all of what I've been thinking about is my fic.. 😔

But!! I can still go a little into that without spoilers. I've finally figured out The Perfect ending for this story that I feel fits with the overarching themes I wanted to tell. I've been making sure that every little detail fits with the themes I wanted to show, I wanted it to overlap Regulus and barty's characters and their overarching themes with PD. I also didn't want to just replicate PD cause I feel like that doesnt have the depth or commentary I want to out into it. Idk ive always thought it's super fun to put everything as some sort of symbol or metaphor or foreshadowing. I'm like literally so close to being done drafting and then I can actually talk about it a little more😭

Anyways! I've also been thinking about barty post regs death 😔(when am I not) But more specifically how every memory he had would almost be tainted, everything now would have an air of questioning and unsureness. Even memories where Regulus isn't there, just wondering where was he? What was he thinking? Am I remembering this right? What could've I changed? What was the domino that caused all of this to happen? Eventually finding it hard to accept the way it really was, having the "I guess it was" and feeling it, but overintellectualizing it. His logic and reasoning is his downfall in this situation, that's what makes him go crazy. (Side note I NEED to make a little post about his intersection between intelligence and madness) Hes doing a complicated version of when there's a task that seems so simple that you think it's a trick, but it's not, it's just that. What happened with Regulus was just that.

Also, I've recently self reflected and realized that a lot of my barty characterization is similar to how I think of Leonard Cohen's art(who I LOVE LOVE LOVE) Idk if you've listened to him or read any of his work, but I HIGHLY suggest it, it's perfect for fall. Anyways, a lot of his songs and poems carry themes of having a twisted self image, not completely self deprication though it may seem, but something else. It's closer to understanding and knowing that you are. Different. And unconventional. It's an uncomfortablility he has with himself. Being soemthig twisted from what you should've been. A lot of his stuff is also to do with tragically losing someone, out of their own choice, and still feeling very loyal yet bitter. Also of loving something so much that it turns dark, or it goes too quick, it spirals. Also his love songs are very barty's perspective on bartylus to me. And like, obvious war mentions. I could give some specific recs similar to barty or them if you'd like.

Another thing is of Regulus and his relationship with his dad. Though I see it completely reasonable if his dad was just kind of, not there and neglectful, it could give very interesting implications to his character, I like it the other way around. Orion seeing what a more carefree attempt at raising a child does and keeping Regulus even closer than he did before. I think Orion always liked Regulus more, despite him being the second, because he was a model son. I don't think he wanted this life or even to have kids, so Regulus being so complacent and in line with what he was supposed to be as a pure blood made him the decided favourite(as much as he could have one). He was always keeping a close eye on Regulus and he could feel it, but he didn't do anything out of place anyways. Orion could tell when he was even thinking something he wasn't supposed to. I believe that, no matter how much she tried, walpurga was too caught in her own head about her duty as a mother to see S+R as anything other than Her Kids, as property that she was supposed to care for and tend to, she obviously loved them, but couldn't see through them. But Orion was there around every corner looking through regulus' eyes into his soul to search for any thing out of his perfect kid.

Anyways.... That's all I can think of rn😭 but if you have questions about ANY of them lmk!!! I love yapping about my little thoughts 😁😁

I FINALLY HAVE TIME TO SEND U AN ASK ABOUT THIS LOL

but I LOVED THE GREAT GATSBY. It’s a really good book. But i honestly I am shocked by how many hate Daisy 😭😭 like I feel like her first line about her daughter yet said almost everything about her. I am surprised about the fact that I can’t really hate these characters. Like they are written in a way that I can’t really seem to hate them because the book incorporated scenes that make even Tom look sympathetic. That could jsut be me though. I also didn’t expect the casual implications of Nick being queer and having a sexual encounter, it’s actually pretty nice but def unexpected because for some reason I always saw the author as jsut every white man author before I read the book. (Terrible ik)

Loved the book, left me very unwell after I will be thinking about it for days to come (I’m getting my own copy one way or another)

Btw I also think ur a very very banana yellow mutual <33333

UGH SORRY I'M LATE TOO LOL😭

also YES this is one of my favs, I've got my three thrifted annotated copies😭😭I personally all of the characters are likeable, and I think this is purely because it's in nicks POV, otherwise they're all not good. He is The unreliable narrator, and I LOVE his narration, I chose to write an essay about him once cause I think he's so interesting and has such a huge impact on how we see the story, despite not impacting the actual story a lot😭also yes!!! I think I literally reblogged smthn the other day about his queerness 😭😭and about the author (I'm OBSESSED with finding out about the authors of books don't mind me) it's actually very VERY thought that he ALLEGEDLY (for legal reasons🙄he did) stole lots of his wife's works. It's known knowledge that they were very bad to each other, they cheated on each other, she was mentally ill, he was an alcoholic, just overall horrible relationship. Anyways, she was in and out of mental hospitals a lot, but was very creative. And she said that she recognized a lot of sections of the works from her personal journals and letters, and a lot was just based on her. It's theorized he plagiarized A LOT off of her. Also yeah, I don't like how people think daisy all so horrible, sure she bailed, but also every person in there were equally as bad. Nick is very good at hiding things through his prose, reminds me of tsh. Anyways, I love this book sosososoooo much! I'm glad you did too!! I have SO many thoughts lol

i think I've slowly internalized the southern gothic type of vibe that you give bartylus because now as I'm writing a fic there is wayyyy more of that vibe than i have ever given them lollllll

I love it sm actually its really fun tehehehhe

GUH!! I've done that with SO many of ur ideas accidentally🙏!!! But it's actually my favourite thing in the world!! I've often given lots of the darker families this vibe not just cause of the aesthetic, but because the whole genre (even just Gothic with all its subgenres) has such similar themes and commentary that one might play into. It's also just really fun!!! (Also very intrigued by ur fic)
