Esteemed colleagues, English is not my first language. Or second (it's my third). Can someone explain to me why people find puns irritating or at least categorize them as 'bad jokes' or react like 'fuck you' or 'shut up' even if in jokey way?

I find puns delightful. Literally, I will light up and write them down because they bring me so much joy that you can play around with a language like that. Every time I am able to think fast enough to come up with one as I speak (English) I am filled with pride to the point that I basically personify one of the seven sins.

You can't pun much in my first and second languages, it doesn't quite work, although I have been mindful and trying to find ways and I think I have, but as much of a mess as English is, I think the ability to pun is fantastic, I love it.

Yet every time people roll their eyes and are like 'oh no it's so bad, such a dad joke'. Am I missing something? Who decided puns are bad and have they got their affairs in order? Because I'm going to remove their kneecaps through their ears.
