Foxxine hated hearing that. It hurt.

Why did the people around her seem to refuse to accept that this was how she was? How she felt? Was it so much easier to give her an ultimatum, to tell her that she couldn't express her feelings for Ace as they were? Tears started to burn at the back of Foxxine's eyes, threatening to fall at any moment. It wasn't fair.

"Is everything alright, Foxxine?"

Foxxine looked up at the girl who sat next to her. Ace, the object of her affection. She had a tender and understanding smile on her face, looking back at the fox girl with adoration.

Foxxine just sighed in response to Ace's question. "No, not really...damnit, it feels like the universe hates us."

"I know." the blue-eyed girl replied bluntly. "I know that it's hard for us both, but i want to see it through. I want to stay by your side, dear. I love you, after all."

Foxxine was touched, and with how speechless she was, she could only hold out her arms as an invitation for a hug. Her body visibly relaxed as her wife reciprocated the gesture, and her chin rested gently on the queen's shoulder.

Maybe someday, they'd find a place in the world where they could love each other.
