Ladies and gentlemen here are two of the main exponents of mutual love

Do you ever think about the fact that he probably didn’t even know who he was anymore here. He didn’t remember the Shire and the only thing he saw was darkness. I still can’t believe he managed to survive. There is so much strength in him and he is the purest soul. He is so little but so big. God I love him so much.

I never told you but I really fell in love with LOTR this summer. I watched it for the first time when I was like 7 years old but I was to little to understand it. What I liked about it was Frodo, I already had a little crush on him. So when this summer I rewatched the films I thought: “my crush is still going strong”

So, you’re telling me that if it wasn’t for Bilbo’s little jump scare we would have looked at Frodo unbuttoning his t-shirt fully? Oh okay… I don’t really mind 😩🥹🫠

He saved all Middle Earth but destroyed himself

This little scene in which Frodo tries with his last forces to climb Mount Doom is actually so important to me. Even though his mind is obscured by the Ring and part of him doesn’t want to destroy it he still remembers why he has to do it: to save the ones he loves (especially Sam). It is love and the purity of his heart and soul that in the end defeat the power of the Ring.

Nothing, just thinking about little Frodo and Sam listening to Bilbo telling them his adventures.

Can we talk about how Frodo’s real smiles during the trauma of the quest are practically only because of Sam?

Look just at this photo, how he smiles knowing Sam would come with him. Despite the horrors he knows he will have to overcome he is happy because Sam is the only person he needs to feel really happy even while carrying his burden.

Sam for him is love, home, trust, joy.

Romantically or not, they complete each other, they need each other and so when they are together, it can be happening even the worst thing (like being about to die on Mount Doom), but they feel happy, they feel complete.

They are just one thing. It’s impossible to divide them. Think about it, is there one scene in the books/films in which Frodo and Sam aren’t together or aren’t thinking about each other? No, there isn’t.

So when you have to explain what having a soulmate REALLY means talk about them.

I continue reading posts on tumblr where people gets angry because practically the majority of the LOTR fandom sees Samfro as a ship romantically.

I just wanted to say that of course everybody has the right to look at their relationship how they want, like in all things everybody can express their opinion. But I believe Tolkien didn’t mean to show them neither as a romantic couple nor as just friends.

Samfro really represents a kind of relationship that, unfortunately, in our world doesn’t exist between two people who aren’t related: who starts off their relationship as strangers.

It’s a type of love which is more powerful than any love between two lovers or two friends. It is really a love which doesn’t end, which comes from a feeling of belonging to somebody. It is a love that can overcome even the most powerful force of the world (the Ring). What really destroys the power of the Ring in the end? The love between Frodo and Sam.

And that’s because I don’t like to say they are JUST friends/ JUST lovers, because they represent something more powerful. Something that I don’t know how to call because it doesn’t exist in our world.

Tolkien about Frodo

I’m beginning to understand why so many people don’t really like Frodo.

I believe it’s because he isn’t the classic hero of the majority of stories. If you think of Harry Potter, he is a classic hero: he has “superpowers” and he is particularly strong because of his connection with Voldemort. On the contrary Frodo isn’t a classic hero.

He is a hero, but not a hero with superpowers or particular abilities which make him strong. He has other qualities. Qualities that don’t really make him strong physically but mentally. He is pure of heart, kind, loyal, brave, humble and many others.

I’m not saying that Harry Potter, for example, doesn’t have this qualities. I’m saying that while Harry can count also on his “physical” abilities and also face fightings, Frodo can’t.

So it’s for this reason that a lot of people, who really love ONLY the characters that are classic heroes (in LOTR for example Aragorn or Legolas), don’t like Frodo.

I’m not saying that Aragorn or Legolas aren’t great characters too. I’m just saying that it’s so unfair to give credit only to them and not to other characters like Frodo that is the embodiment of an atypical hero. And btw this type of heroes are my favorite.

I don’t know if it’s just me but one of the LOTR moments that I love the most and that makes me cry all the time is the battle of Weathertop. I remember rewatching it after having finished the trilogy and crying because of it. I mean, knowing how Frodo will have to leave Sam at the end also because of his wound and the fact that he will never heal from it makes me physically and psychologically sick. Moreover in the films, as soon as Frodo is stabbed Sam runs to him and Frodo says “oh Sam” with that super sweet and grateful tone and Sam just smiles to him. And in the meanwhile Aragorn that fight all the Nazgûl’s alone and risks his life for his little hobbits. God all of this makes me sob.

One of the things I love the most about Frodo is his humility and his ability to express his emotions without fear recognizing also his weaknesses. And I love how, even in the end, after he managed to destroy the Ring, he doesn’t boast about it and maintains his humility.

Two cute neighbors. Yes, cause why nobody talks about the fact that Sam literally lived in the hill under Frodo and was always at his house hearing Bilbo’s stories probably when also Frodo was there? Let’s talk about it more guys

Can we appreciate Frodo in this scene and his strength in resisting the Ring’s power?

Boromir literally wants to take the Ring from him and Frodo’s reaction is just to walk away.

Remember Sméagol and Deagol? When Sméagol wanted to take the Ring from Deagol, Deagol’s reaction was to try to kill him.

Just to underline the differences

I love how Frodo and Sam’s relationship builds from the start. Sam has a great admiration towards Frodo and Frodo has great sense of affection and protection towards Sam.

Yes also protection: in the books from the start Frodo asks Sam if he still wants to come with him, telling him it’s very dangerous and Sam practically says he would do anything for him. But also when they are in the Tower of Cirith Ungol and Frodo refuses to share the Ring with Sam not because he wants the Ring all for himself but because “it will destroy you Sam”.

Also Frodo would do anything for Sam. They would literally die for each other.
