Ever since their parents’ divorce broke their family apart, the Mercer siblings had grown distant and not seen each other in years. But after her father’s death, Jacqueline Mercer has returned to her childhood town seeking to mend the relationship with her older brother, Dean, in hopes to begin a new life together.
Soon, she realizes that Riverdale is not the same quiet, little town she remembered and her brother is not the only person she’s become estranged from.

If there was one thing Daphne had learned from her stepfather about her absent mother, it was that Louise Stevens had been born with a knack for theater acting.
So it was no wonder Daphne inherited the talent of performing, or better said, pretending. She had always been a great pretender.
She pretended to be fine more times than she cared to count. She pretended to be interested in things she really couldn’t give a shit about. She even fooled herself and pretended to not have feelings for her best friend.

“So you’ve finally shed your red Converse and bomber jackets for a new leather skin and biker boots, huh, Stevens?”
Daphne crossed her arms over her chest, the black leather rubbing unfamiliar against her skin, and looked up at the insanely tall teenager.
“I’m not doing this for me,” her eyes glanced over at Jughead sitting with Toni and the rest of the high school Serpents in the cafeteria. She drew her attention back to Romeo and breathed out, uncrossing her arms, “I’m doing this for Jug.”
“You’re looking out for your people-,” he nodded in understanding, “as Serpents, that’s what we do.”
“Among other things,” the biting words flew out of her mouth before she could stop them.
Romeo’s jaw tightened with a surge of anger, but he managed to keep his voice leveled, “Look, the Northsiders might’ve painted sinful snakes out of us, but trust me when I say they are just as tainted, too.”
