Chapter 10: Axew Ingo gets reacquainted with his Pokémon.
They fall into a routine, one that’s painstakingly familiar and yet worryingly different. Ingo has an idea of what he should be doing when Emmet gets ready for bed. After Emmet leaves the bathroom with his teeth brushed for the night, Ingo thinks it would be his turn to use the shower. His brother typically uses it in the mornings, so it would make sense if he did so in the evenings. They worked like that before, he thinks.
Ingo misses showers. Ever since he remembered their purpose, Ingo can’t get how nice taking one would be out of his head. He misses warm showers, he misses soup, he misses those pretzel sticks that Emmet buys whenever he runs to the store. Everything about life in Unova was taken from him not only once, but twice.
He misses the way Lady Sneasler’s kits would curl up in his lap. He misses holding onto the handles on the subway when his car veers a little too quickly. He misses Pecha berries. He misses when Chandelure felt warm.
Ironically, and most cruelly of all, Ingo misses Emmet. He’s invisible to his brother! Like he doesn’t even exist! Though he loves when Emmet speaks to him, at the end of their conversations, he only feels empty.
Is it going to get better? Will Ingo forget again, one day? Forget what it was like to be alive?
He can almost pretend that it doesn’t bother him. He’s not sure who he puts on this facade for. Chandelure, maybe? It’s not like Emmet would be able to tell anything was wrong.
“Alright!” Emmet sits on the couch, right where Ingo’s legs are stretched out. He reflexively draws his legs up, if only so that weird tingling sensation disappears. “What do you want to watch tonight, Ingo?”
