The snapshot
Haku knows better than anyone else how hard the curse dropped on Rui affects him. Hell, he probably knows better than Rui himself. He plays it cool, never giving so much of a hint but it’s only a façade. If he can convince everybody else that he’s fine maybe he’ll start to believe it himself. Despite everything, even the perpetual surveillance, his special treat offered by the Institute, what an honour..
Where does this pic came from? Damn looks like a lifetime ago.. two besties hugging each other smiling at the camera raising their drinks in the sunset. On his hand also a cigarette, the only thing he doesn’t miss from that time. Where was it.. Shirahama, one of surf-addicted Rui’s favourite places. Pure bliss on their smiles.. a stinging sensation on the corner of his eyes, a grip on the stomach. He clings to the window frame, looks down at the Campus and hastily closes the photo gallery. Damn, if it affects him this way what can possibly mean to Rui?
Speaking of the devil there he goes always at fast pace and avoiding everyone in his path. More packages? He needs to be firmer by limiting the online shopping otherwise that lazy slob* he’s pampering will never stop until the dorm is full. Every eye is on him of course, he’s stunning, even doing something mundane like errands. If only they knew. Rui raises his left arm, wiping as best as he can the sweat that starts to form on his temple. Haku can barely stand the heat wearing only his shirt, he can’t even imagine adding a turtleneck and a jacket to that. And gloves. As Rui raises his gaze their eyes meet. A wink, the hint of a bow a gorgeous smile and he’s gone. Perhaps tonight he’ll go to the bar, it’s been a while and he really needs to see his friend.
“Non human my arse” he mutters. There must be a way and he will find it, he refuses to believe otherwise.
*Ed, obviously
Tiny insight on Haku/Rui friendship, probably makes little sense but it came out like this. I don’t ship them, not because Rui is the only declared heterosexual in the game (who cares, it’s fiction anyway) but because not every relationship must be a romantic/sexual one imo. Having a true friendship can’t compare with anything else, is powerful and irreplaceable.
Literally the first time I try to write something. Might delete it later because I’m not confident at all. I’m also a big coward
Anniversary
An entire year almost went by. The cure for PC actually came at last. No more curse, no more ring as well. It came off the moment she was “healed”.
Darwick offered her to finish her studies. Of course they did, they couldn’t erase her memory, the matches only work within a time span of few hours, it was the perfect solution to keep an eye on her.
Haku is relieved, she will live the life she deserves, free.
As for him, all is settled. He just needs to arrange things so that she will be out of harm, then everyone else will be free as well.
One last walk side by side under the moonlight, longer than usual and much more quiet, stealing glances of her dim light profile. They’re outside her dorm. Already? He can’t. Enduring everything is too much of a struggle, he desperately wants to be selfish at least this once. He needs it. He won’t go back to Hotarubi. Not tonight. Spend the night between her loving arms for the first and last time, until dawn comes.
Then “it’s for your own sake” and without hesitation the cold flame of a Mesmer match dances before her teary eyes…

Haku again. This one also came out on its own after these posts 1 and 2. So yes, it’s all Danie’s fault 😀
I suppose I lied about the Haku/Rui short being the first? This one is. I just never thought I’d post it.
thinking about haku as usual and his name (草薙 伯玖) and how much it tells us about his character -
草薙 (kusanagi)
according to an old myth (from kojiki), kusanagi-no-tsurugi is a sword pulled from the body of a serpent. it allows the user to control the wind. today, it is still used during modern enthronement ceremonies of the japanese emperor, but due to its status as a 'divine object' nobody is actually allowed to see it...? (source)
haku being named after a sword is really interesting because it introduces the idea of him being a weapon... by whom is he wielded?
this might just be a reference to how haku's family comes from a line of priests, but the idea of this being a sword being something nobody is allowed to see also hints at how maybe nobody knows the real haku, or nobody knows his real intentions.
that being said, separately, the characters mean 'grass' (草) and 'to cut / remove' (薙) - the image of clearing grass does point towards something more like revealing the truth... perhaps this is what he is meant to do in the future?
the fact that the sword came from the body of a slain serpent is also interesting! there's an argument made by the earlier source that "the sword found within the serpent shows its identity with the serpent by its very designation" - i.e. he is the snake. it tracks with his character design (narrower yellow pupils)!
also grass might explain his hair lol
伯 (haku)
older / protective / respected male figure
this makes sense, since haku is the one to bring mc to darkwick and more or less is the one looking out for them / gives them advice etc.
玖 (ku)
nine / type of jade
probably to balance out the rest of the name?
when looking at his 五格 and 五行 (name-based divination), it's a mixed bag, but there are two numbers that stand out:
his 天格 reads that he's loyal, chivalrous, brave, realistic and sticks to his morals im a haku simp
but his 人格 reads that as he grows older, his life might have constant turmoil, leading him to rebelliousness, indulgence, and a short-lived life / losing loved ones at a young age. his number is often associated with "misfortune of a hero who is not a hero".
overall i think his name really fits with what we know about his character so far & his character design!! it gives us a hint of what might come for him in the future too!! the writers rly popped off with him
A couple of thoughts about Subaru and Haku
I just read a very sweet short about sub!subaru. It’s easy to imagine him like that, so sensitive, delicate, fragile but… Still waters run deep
Did you notice how he can barely contain himself when he’s angered (When he speaks about freedom for anomalies..)? The way he shuts down Lyca when he’s not listening? That firm commanding voice. There’s also this chat

Poker face. Indeed. We know he’s a VERY GOOD liar, he managed to convince Institute & Darwick for years.
I just thought tho.. wasn’t the Stigma test performed on him? Of course it wouldn’t have been Haku the one doing it since he was just arrived as well (ops spoiler for those who still did not know I suppose?) but still.
Maybe they implemented the test because of Haku’s ability? Was that his bargaining chip to have a little more freedom and credibility with the higher ranks?
They're out to END us

And Rui gets flack for being flirty??

Nah I know why he got the wedding card so fast it's because he made moves.

@leowifefover
I wanna hear more of this tanuki theory
So the Tanuki-Haku theory/speculation/observation of the prevalence of tanuki with Haku in (non-story) parts of the game. And with those--and other things--in mind, the possibility that Haku is either a tanuki himself or possessed by one.
To start with, his R card's link bonus is with the Tanook card.

Next, his SSR has him holding a tanuki mask. In Japanese the title is also "Shinto Priest Who Likes To Make Jokes" or something similar--tanuki are fond of pulling pranks.

Finally, his guild cat is, in fact, him in a tanuki kigurumi, complete with leaf on his head.

More incidental things, he has a home screen dialogue saying not to come crying to him if you get possessed by a fox spirit walking around late at night. Kitsune and tanuki are sometimes depicted in competition with one another, since they both shapeshift and deceive people.
(another one of his voicelines, one from during the spring, also has him say ghosts are lucky since they don't get hangovers, and in autumn he drinks while moongazing--and Tanuki, in many stories, apparently pretend to be human to buy alcohol and get drunk lmao.)
Even more incidentally, Haku plays the flute. There's a legend in Japan called tanuki-bayashi where you hear musical instruments--including drums and flutes--at night, allegedly being played by a band of mischevous tanuki. If you follow them trying to find the source you'll never reach it, but if you keep following the music through dawn, you'll wind up somewhere you've never been before. Haku plays the flute after the player ends up in Kisaragi Station, having had been on the train at night before, and takes them back to reality and suddenly it's daytime. . .and what do you know, he takes them somewhere they've never been before. That connection's a little bit of a stretch though.
There's also Gyoubu, a tanuki who helped an insurrection--or, depending on the telling of the story, helped the lord of the castle. . .which could tie in to him being the spy and all, depending on what happens there.
Just. . .there are a lot of things about Haku that could be linked to tanuki and that's probably not a coincidence. And it's like. Okay, how far does that go? Y'know? Less theory and more observation i guess. The theory is more "Haku is a tanuki or is possessed by one."
I’m clearly not the best hairdresser but… forehead! LOL

haku w his hair down yes but also consider: haku w his hair UP,,,,, forehead!haku,,,,,,,,, haku w his hair combed back,,,,,,

Come ooon! Stop teasing and give us a hot spring event! Pretty please?

maybe, in other life, it goes like this: (haku x mc)
—
“There’s a shrine nearby.”
You look up from where your CATSMO map is open on your phone. “How near?”
Haku scratches his ear. “About two minutes? If the Galaxy Express isn’t coming in the next twenty minutes I think we can spare a trip there.”
You look down at the map again. You’re sure it won’t take more than twenty minutes for the Express to arrive, given whatever physically impossible warp speed it travels at, but there must be a reason Haku brought up the shrine. “Missing home?”
Haku laughs. There is an undercurrent of exhaustion, which frankly isn’t surprising given the mission you just wrapped up. “In a way.”
A detour less than half an hour after the end of your mission should be easy enough to fudge on the inspection report, you figure, especially since it’s so near dinner time. And since it’s Haku requesting… You stuff your phone back in your pocket. “Let’s go.”
It’s always hard to say no when it comes to Haku.
The shrine isn’t difficult to find, parked in a small patch of land between two office buildings. There are a few people lingering about in the last rays of evening, heads bowed in quiet conversation as they wander around the honden.
Haku leads you around, however, to a smaller sub-shrine tucked under a large tree. The further you walk into the compound, the more relaxed he seems, shoulders slumping slightly and his breathing a little deeper. The gold chains of his uniform glitter as you pass under a patch of dying sun, then dull completely as you come to a standstill in the shadow of a hollow wooden shrine.
Haku takes a deep breath. His eyes flutter closed, long green brushing against the pallor of his cheeks, almost as if he is basking in the aura exuding from the structure. He has done a good job of hiding his weariness – where you are usually distracted by a charming smile you see now grey-purple bags bruising the hollow of his eyes.
Your hands itch to brush his hair away, to let him lean into your palm, to let him close his eyes and rest as you… you hold back a sigh.
Almost as if he hears you, Haku’s eyes crack open. He glances at you, impish grin hanging itself on the corner of his lips. “Staring at me again?”
You flush, but before you can form a retort something white flashes at the corner of your eye.
Perhaps it is by grace of the fact that you’ve been working on this solo mission with Haku for the past week, or perhaps it is due to the trickle of life-and-death situations you have been in since last October, but you react almost immediately, spinning on your heel and reaching out for Haku.
Haku’s hand finds yours, blindly thrown out in your direction as he steps forward slightly to shield you, but his fingers lace with yours instantly like a magnet finding home. His other hand rests on his hip, uniform jacket pushed aside in favour of easy access to his flute.
It looks almost casual to anyone else, this rehearsed defence looking like a startled step forward on Haku’s part, but you know different. You suck in a breath at the hum of power that surges from your ring to where your fingers interlock with Haku’s.
But it is only an old lady, stepping out from behind the wooden structure. She is dressed in simple priest robes, paper fan slung around her wrist, and her eyes round at your alarmed reaction.
She is not a threat, you decide, and you feel Haku’s body relax next to you as he comes to the same conclusion. There is no need to use either of your stigmas, and yet…
He doesn’t let go either, fingers firm in your own.
The priest apologises for startling you, thick Kansai accent warm with welcome. She peers at you kindly. “A lot of couples get married at the main shrine. Have you come to ask around?”
“That would be nice,” Haku smiles. There is a wistfulness in there that sounds age-old. “In another life.”
You glance at him, eyebrows raised, but he has struck up a conversation with the priest about tonight’s weather and how a little rainfall might do the wisteria by the entrance some good in the April heat.
In another life. The words lick flames up from where your hands are joined, a thrum of want and hope that settles in your chest and paints the wreath of your ribs the colour of sunrise.
You know Haku’s interested — he makes no effort to hide it. He cracks jokes about taking you out on dates at least twice a week, as if hearing it enough will negate the fact that what is left of you will be dead come the crest of October, and both of you will be left with a pain time can never erase.
You make no effort to hide your blushes either — he knows how much it flusters you when he tucks your hair behind your ear, how fast your heart beats when he leans in a little too close. He knows how much you want to acquiesce, and yet…
The priest takes her leave, and the two of you are left in the grey wash of an already set sun.
“In another life.” The words sound strange coming from you, standing out against the hum of the cicadas.
“In this life, too, if you’d have me,” Haku says. His tone is light, but you don’t have to look at him to taste how bitter his smile is. You both know it will not be possible.
The chasm between you is larger than what six months can bridge.
All too soon he is pulling his hand away to hand you a coin, warm from where it has been sitting in his pocket.
“Thank you,” you murmur, and then the only sounds left are the dull clink of the coins falling into the wooden offering box, and the clatter of the bells as Haku steps forward to tug on the straw rope hanging from the rafters.
You both bow twice, and clap.
You don’t remember what you wish for – you pretend you do not wish for him – before your mind wanders off to the phantom press of Haku’s palm against yours.
Maybe… Maybe, in another life, it looks like this:
Your hand in his, standing not on the edge of an inky galaxy but on the infinite edge of forever.
No responsibilities, no curses, no anomalies, just two dust motes floating in a shared beam of sunlight, spinning together again and again like atoms dancing their way home.
Haku does not let you go in this one, no — his fingers will be wound between yours not with the intention of fighting or saving or protecting, but just holding.
The jokes he cracks about taking you on dates will not dissipate into longing, the brush of his breath against your ear will not burn. His eyes on yours, his touch on your hair, his hand on the small of your back — they will not linger late into the night long after you return home.
Instead of giving you his umbrella, he will share it.
His hands will be a warmth, a weight. An anchor under the brightness of rainy moonlight, holding you steady in the sea of ordinary life, like you both are nothing but two river stones finding yourselves in the middle of a shared stream.
You will drink in the whiskey gold of his eyes without fear of setting your lungs ablaze, and taste the laze of his smile without fear of forgetting.
You will meet him in the middle this time, languorous and lingering, and you will love him, like the moon orbiting the earth orbiting the sun, leisurely and without any intention to stop.
Maybe, in another life, between the firm interlace of your fingers will rest not a curse, but a happy ever after.
Or maybe, in another life, it goes like this:
Maybe, in another life, you are sitting next to him on beige-grey tatami, laughter in the air and afternoon sun tangling its fingers in his hair in the best kind of halo. He is looking at you, all bright eyes and soft adoration. It will send your heart bubbling like soda in the back of your throat.
Over and under and under again, he will repeat, then laugh when the red string of your ume-musubi slips through your fingers for the sixth time. Perhaps we can just buy ready-made ones in time for the wedding.
No, you will say, fiercely, not because this is Haku and the deftness of his fingers have already weaved three ume-musubis in the time it has taken you to struggle through one, but because the idea of being wedded wearing plum blossom knots weaved by the other, breathed to life in the curve of your thigh some time between sunset and sleep last night, sings a sweet promise of forever. I can do it.
It will take you two more tries, but you will do it, red tassels slotting into place like Haku has slotted himself into the space between your heartbeats, undeniable and sure.
Well done.
His congratulatory kiss will send the sun down your spine; the reach of his hands for yours will send gold through your veins.
Maybe, in another life, the moor of his fingers as they curl into yours, warm against your ring and the ume-musubi you will pin to his lapel, will mean the same thing two toothbrushes lined up on a bathroom counter does. It will feel like shoebox Nakameguro apartment does, like dancing in your socks by the light of the moon, like my-Hotarubi-hoodie-on-your-side-of-the-closet, like train station warabi-mochi bought because-I-know-you-like-it.
Maybe, in another life, you will be as much each others’ as you are the universe’s.
But in this life, you open your eyes, and you bow, and you turn away from the shrine, and you do not say anything when Haku’s hand brushes the back of yours as the both of you walk away.
You really need to ask if we want a part 2? I mean you start with y/n playing doctor with Haku...
Okay just to be clear YES, thank you very much I would really appreciate it. And thank you for the food!
Beats Per Minute
Fandom: Tokyo Debunker
Pairing: Haku Kusanagi/You
Comments: I got an anonymous Haku request, so let's call this a response to that! If you guys like this one I can make a part two. Waiting for the next Tokyo Debunker Chapter tomorrow, then I will start back on Fever Dreams :').
"Alright... now see if you can remember how to conduct a general exam on your own," Jiro instructs.
This had been the fourth week or so that you had been spending the majority of your free time under the tutelage of Jiro and occasionally Yuri of Mortkranken. You were taking a few electives that were related to anomalous medicinal research, but truthfully-- your grades in that area were abysmal. Jiro had very reluctantly agreed to help you with your studies, but only if you could assist him with check-ups and various demands made by the Mortkranken Captain.
Today, you called in Haku to one of Jiro's unoccupied exam rooms to be your guinea pig. The Hotarubi vice-captain seemed eager to help when you had phoned him earlier that day, which you had been banking on. You considered Haku to be one of the most, if not the most reliable Ghoul you had met at the academy. After all, he is the one who helped you when you had picked up that nasty curse and even continues to be there for you now, with pretty much anything he can reasonably assist with.
The two of you had become quite close, by your standards. At least enough to frequently eat lunch together, study, or even walk back to your dorms together. Haku's mild-mannered sensibility and facetious attitude were a breath of fresh air in comparison to some of the other Ghouls that you had been assigned to as an inspector for in the past.
"Alright, Haku. Looks like we will be taking your vitals! Let's see... we logged your weight at seventy-two kilograms," You say as you scribble down the digits on a sheet of paper at the office desk you sit at. "Height at one-hundred seventy eight centimeters..."
Haku clicks his tongue and tents his eyebrows, feigning a troubled expression. "Could you add about six more centimeters to that? I can't let it get out that I'm below one eighty-four. What would that do to my reputation?"
The Hotarubi vice-captain sits casually on an operating table next to you, while Jiro observes you from a rolling chair somewhere off to the side.
Setting your pen down, you wheel your chair around to face him. "Lucky for you, my eyes are the only ones that will view this," You pause. "And Jiro's... maybe Yuri, too."
Haku hums, tucking a strand of hair behind his ear. The deceptively coy look he's sporting evokes a fluttering sensation in your chest. "I guess if you already know, but find me dashing anyways... I think I can live with that," Haku drawls.
Always with the flirtatious jokes.
Said jokes were once few and far between, but you swear that you feel like they've been making more frequent appearances in the vice-captain's banter as of late. "It sounds like someone's fishing for compliments," You tease.
Haku leans back on his palms and tilts his head, eyeing you mischievously. "Maybe I'm just waiting for you to bite."
You want to come back with something cheeky, but any and all words get caught in the back of your throat from the remark. It was actually downright criminal how Haku could be such a proper and polite gentleman one minute, and then the next be spewing out suggestive one-liners with double entendres. Even right now the Shinto priest's expression is shifting into one of self-satisfaction from your silence.
Jiro clears his throat, catching your attention. "The exam..."
"S-sorry...!" You sputter out, getting to your feet. Taking a few steps closer, you move your hands out, hovering them over Haku's neck tentatively. "May I?"
"Please do." Haku's aurelian eyes remain locked on you, brimming with amusement.
Holding your breath, your fingertips make contact with his neck, gently searching for any abnormalities with his lymph nodes. "No pain, or anything out of the ordinary, correct?"
"No, ma'am," Haku replies.
"Okay, good." You lift the stethoscope around your neck to your ears and walk behind him. "Okay deep breaths," You instruct, placing the chest-piece of the instrument against Haku's upper back.
Haku obeys your instructions as you listen for anything unusual, sliding the piece throughout the expanse of his back after each breath.
"Do you have any history of illness or conditions?" You ask, once you've placed the stethoscope back around your neck.
"No, not really anything serious." Haku pauses as he ruminates. "Well, I think the only thing I had was a slight arrhythmia as a kid, but it has long since passed."
You pull a blood pressure reader from a hook on the wall behind you. "Could you please remove your jacket?"
"How scandalous," Haku teases, giving you an impish side-eye. "If you insist, Doc."
You snort at his antics as you watch him remove his jacket, leaving his torso clad in just a white button-up. Wrapping the cuff around Haku's right bicep, you secure the velcro and begin pumping the inflation bulb. After a few seconds, you mouth the reading to lock the number in your brain before removing the device.
"Okay the only other reading we need to do is pulse." You reach into your pocket and pull out an oximeter and clamp it to his right index finger. While you wait for the device to get an accurate reading, you take out a penlight from your coat pocket and shine it on Haku's eyes.
"... Looks like your pupillary reflexes are just fine," You remark, as you click the light off, tucking it back into your pocket.
Haku's lips curl into a sheepish smile. "So I'm in peak health, hm?"
"So far it seems that way, at least from what a general exam can deduce." You glance down to study the screen of the pulse reader and your expression quickly falters into one of concern. "Oh wow, your beats per minute is really high right now."
Haku follows your gaze. "One twenty," He reads aloud, unperturbed.
That was unusually high considering Haku had been sedentary since he got there twenty minutes ago.
"Do you feel anxious, or typically suffer from anxiety related symptoms...?" You ask, gently removing the clamp from his fingertip.
"Nope, never have," Haku states matter-of-factly with a lopsided grin.
"I see... No current medications?" You ask, lifting your right index and middle finger to check the pulse against his neck.
Haku shakes his head. "None."
"Do you have feelings of your heart racing often, or spontaneously?"
The Hotarubi vice-captain hums, averting his gaze to somewhere off to the side. "I wouldn't say it's spontaneous... more often lately, yeah."
"I see..." Your gaze finds Jiro's. "Should we perform an electrocardiogram?"
Jiro nods, leaning forward in his chair. "It would be a good idea to eliminate any potential concerns. I can set up the machine right now."
Haku laughs a bit. "Uh, I really think that's unnecessar--"
"Okay, sounds good," You say to Jiro.
Jiro gets up to leave the room for a moment and you redirect your attention to Haku in front of you, beaming at him encouragingly. "Don't worry, it's a quick test! Plus, I want to make sure everything is squeaky clean! Especially since you said you used to have an arrhythmia. It's better to not leave any boxes unchecked since you're here, you know?"
Haku lifts an eyebrow, displaying an awkward smile. "Well... have you thought about the other reasons someone may get a racing heart?"
"Hmm... other reasons?" You repeat, unsure of where he was going with this.
When Haku nods, you glance up at the ceiling, tapping your chin. "Cardio, vitamin B12 deficiency, panic attacks, anemia, dehydration, stress, low blood sugar..." You gasp and slap your closed fist to your palm as you draw a fresh conclusion. "That's it...! We should do your blood work too."
Haku gives you a tired look. "I don't need my blood work done, (Y/N). And I really don't need an ECG, but for you I'll oblige."
"You shouldn't be so sure, you never know!" You wag a chastising finger at him, before returning to sit in your chair to fill out the rest of the general check-up prompts. "You're my good friend and a valuable asset to Darwick. I want you to be in peak health! Subaru and Zenji would agree with me, too." With that, you start scribbling in the blank spaces on your sheet that you had yet to fill out.
Haku forces a chuckle from behind you. "Okay, but... have you considered the possibility that you're just so cute that it makes me nervous? Not to mention, your face was so close to mine."
The pen in your hand involuntarily slips from your grip and skitters off the edge of the table.
Hah... again with the jokes, huh?
You swing your chair around to face him and fold your arms over your chest with an unimpressed look. "Save the stand-up routine for when we wrap up the check-up, vice-captain."
"I'm not joking," Haku deadpans.
The Hotarubi vice-captain's expression does, in fact, read as sincere. To say that the idea of your presence eliciting such a reaction from Haku makes you excited would feel like a severe understatement. You study him, continuing to search for any signs of humor or deception.
When you don't find any, you pivot around, reach into a desk drawer and pull out a clean hospital gown. "You'll need to remove your shirt for the ECG, so you can wear this," You say, tossing it in his lap. Hastily, you pick your pen up from the floor and redirect your attention back to your form, effectively hiding the blush threatening to creep up your neck.
"...Ouch," Haku mutters, laughing despite himself. "So this is what it feels like to get rejected? Now I really don't get how Kaito can shoot his shot so much."
"...Rejected?" You echo, in disbelief. The mere suggestion heightens your courage enough to look over your shoulder to address him. "I would never even consider committing such a heinous crime."
From the angle you're at, you can't really read Haku's expression. Just when you're about to face him again, Jiro finally comes back into the room, wheeling in the ECG machine towards the side of Haku's bed.
"While I set this up, please remove your shirt and replace it with the gown," Jiro requests, unfolding a bundle of cords.
"Sure," Haku replies.
"(Y/N), come over here so I can show you how the settings work," Jiro adds.
"Okie dokie." Without hesitation, you flip around and get to your feet. You nearly trip over yourself when Haku comes into view.
The Hotarubi vice-captain is seated with his unbuttoned shirt now pooled at his hips, exposing the entirety of his bare, toned, torso. Sliding off the bed, Haku stands and unfolds the gown, shifting his eyes towards your leering gaze. When you fail to look away after gawking long past the point of it being considered appropriate, Haku's lips curl into a suggestive smile.
Jiro sighs, rolling his eyes. "(Y/N), if you don't come over here, I may have to report you for misconduct."
"Right, misconduct," You nod, tearing your gaze away from Haku's tantalizing state of undress. "Can it really be misconduct if you opt to change in public? There's a restroom down the hall," You ramble as you make your way to Jiro's side.
"Takes too much time," Jiro interjects before Haku can defend himself. "We have other patients."
You swear you can see Haku giving you a smug look out of your peripheral vision and you choose to ignore it, lest your face burn brighter.
After the electrocardiogram machine is set up and attached to Haku, it takes about ten minutes to run the test and get results.
Once that happens, Jiro announces the conclusion. "Haku is in picture perfect health. Nothing to worry about." The Mortkranken vice-captain begins to remove the wires secured to Haku's chest. "This was good practice, regardless. Good work, (Y/N). Maybe in the near future you can do some general check-ups while I'm preoccupied with other tasks."
"Yeah... right." You sit at the desk again, recording the results of the test on the paper in front of you.
If Haku's fine, then what he said was true. He's been nervous around you lately...? And then he went and made a comment about you rejecting him. What the hell is going on?
"Are you about finished with that, (Y/N)?" Jiro asks, peering over your shoulder.
"Oh, yeah. It's done." You briskly thrust your hand in the air, the paper in it.
"Okay, good," Jiro takes it from you, glancing over it. "I will be right back to prepare for the nex--," Jiro randomly turns green and clamps a hand over his mouth.
It was a common occurrence, but you express concern anyways. "You okay? I think it's about time you take your medicine. It's been a few hours, no?"
Jiro nods. Slowly, he turns his back to you and trudges out of the room.
Poor guy, really.
"Are you going to be done soon?" Haku inquires as he gets up from the bed and stretches. Thankfully, he's properly clothed again by the time your eyes drift in his direction.
"I'm sure it won't be too much longer, though Jiro's schedule isn't always predictable," You explain as you subconsciously try to calm your jittery nerves. Turning your chair slightly, you muster a friendly smile. "Thanks for coming, you've been an excellent test dummy."
"Anytime, (Y/N)," Haku replies easily, returning a smile of his own.
A momentary silence falls on the two of you. It looks almost as if the vice-captain intends on saying something else, but you make a point to beat him to it.
Abruptly, you lift yourself from your chair. "I can walk you out, if you want."
"Yeah, let's do it," He readily complies. Haku from a few months ago would be quick to insist such a gesture was unnecessary out of courtesy, but not today evidently.
You lead Haku out into the hallway and towards the entrance of the building. Typically, you'd be talking his head off right now about various things, but your brain continues to swim with thoughts of your conversation earlier. Did you brushing off what Haku admitted to earlier genuinely bother him? You're pretty sure he would never tell you if it had. Haku is the type of guy who's always too preoccupied with worrying about others to let anything get to him too much. Should you apologize? Is he expecting something from you?
"Hey, Haku," You start, quelling your internal conflict as you walk ahead of him.
"Hey, (Y/N)."
"If I said something to upset you earlier, I'm super sorry," You say, tossing a wistful glance over your shoulder.
Haku smirks, tilting his head. "Upset me? Not at all. Quite the contrary, actually."
"...How's that?"
"I'm delighted to find out that I am immune to the friend zone," Haku explains with a breezy chuckle.
Your cheeks burn at his comment. He must have been referring to you saying that you'd never reject him. The comment was flippant– made without any thought at all. And maybe Haku wasn't joking about being nervous around you, but was he really being sincere with such a conspicuous statement?
Averting your eyes, you turn your head forward again. "I didn't know that kind of thing occupied your mind," You admit. "Are you dead ass?"
Haku hesitates. "...Would it make you uncomfortable if I said yes?"
Holy cow, this was actually happening? You always thought Haku was cute and had harbored a little crush on him for quite a while. Considering the severity of your curse and all the unknowns that come with it, you really hadn't seriously considered romance. Didn't Professor Hyde strongly advise against it, too?
"Sorry, you can forget I said that. It's totally irresponsible for me to be putting something like that on you," Haku pushes out an apology, likely having taken your prolonged silence as an answer.
You stop in your tracks and turn to face him, wearing a reassuring smile. "I was just thinking, that's all. You didn't make me uncomfortable."
Haku smiles abjectly as he rubs his neck. "That's a relief."
Swallowing away your anxieties, you take a deep breath before speaking again. "Jiro will be expecting me soon, so we may have to talk more about this later. But to be clear, you're saying you like me? Like... not platonically?"
Haku holds your gaze and he nods with conviction. The faintest hint of pink dusts over the vice-captain's cheeks as he slips his thumbs in his pockets. "Yeah. I probably could have timed this better, but since you're asking– I may as well be transparent. I think very highly of you, truthfully."
Your heart beats rapidly in your chest and you feel as if you could melt into a puddle of mush from that doting look on Haku's face. It was probably dumb and totally unnecessary, but you have the urge to get further clarification. The uncertainty you feel has to be a result of being so accustomed to his glib way with words.
"So, like... you know when I say not platonically I mean like, um..." You stutter, finding it to be increasingly more difficult to hold his gaze. "You w-want to do stuff like go on d-dates, hold hands... kiss?" The pitch in your voice increases at the last bit of criteria.
Haku laughs a bit and he nods reassuringly. "Yeah, definitely. That about checks all the boxes for non-platonic relationships." Haku brings a finger to his lips in deliberation. The corners of his hazel eyes crinkle with mirth and you just know he's about to embarrass the shit out of you. "Well, not all..." Haku drawls, correcting himself.
A nervous laugh stumbles awkwardly out of your mouth. "Anywho...! Gotta go help patients or whatever, haha! I think this is far enough, you know your way out!" You spin on your heel and head back from where you came. Not bothering to turn around, you call back to him, waving your hand in the air. "Talk to ya later, Haku! Text me, or something!"
Haku snorts, returning the gesture with a wave of his own even though you can't see it. "I'll do that, (Y/N).”
Hellooo, congrats on the 200 followers 🥳

Warning: spicy but not explicit; HAKU IS A SLUT!!!!!!!!!! I'm sorry for sluttifying everyone, it will happen again; reader is called princess

Your back pressed against the wall of an empty and small room, forgotten amidst all the other rooms in Darkwick. You watched as Haku quickly fidgeted with the knob right after he pushed you inside, successfully locking both of you in that dimly lit space.
In two short strides, he was already pressing you flush against his body.
“Now that you can’t run” he smirked triumphantly as he leaned onto you “Mind telling me why you’ve been avoiding me all these days, hm?” his velvety smooth voice vibrated against your neck as he placed teasing pecks on your sensitive skin. “Don’t you feel pity for me, all alone and sad without you for three whole days?”
You rolled your eyes and pushed him away, forcing him to look into your angry gaze.
“That’s what you get for letting those other students drool all over you. It’s your punishment.”
“Princess” he sighed, pressing his forehead against yours and closing his eyes “You know I don’t even egg them on, don’t you? The only person I care about is you.” he ran his knuckles against your cheek and rubbed the tip of his nose against yours.
You tutted.
“I can’t control my jealousy.” you pouted and he opened his eyes, gaze fully locked onto your plump lips.
“I’m sorry, princess…” he held your chin, thumb pushing your bottom lip down “But please, don’t torture me this way. It’s so cruel of you. What shall I do to make up to you and prove that I’m yours, hm?” he gave you a lopsided grin, knowing all too well that he had been forgiven the moment he grabbed your hand to push you into that hidden place. However, he was more than eager to please you, especially after three whole days without your touch.
“Hmmm…” you hummed, pretending to think hard about his question. Your eyes were half-lidded as you licked your lips, looking at him like he was a piece of candy. Haku rubbed his thighs together, already feeling a discomfort grow inside his pants.
“Kiss me” you said, simply, hooking your arms around his neck.
In a split second, Haku’s arms caged you between himself and the room’s wall with a loud SLAM! and his lips roughly met yours, in a desperate kiss. He hummed loudly into your mouth, moaning as he grabbed your hips tightly to pull you against his pelvis.
Your hands ran down his shoulders, his chest, his stomach, and finally to the area that proved to you how needy he was.
Haku’s breath hitched once you palmed him through his pants and he smiled in the kiss, pressing you even closer to his body, as if he was trying to meld himself into you.
“You are so cruel,” he murmured against your lips, grinding the bulge in his pants against your hand “It was torture, not being able to have your- a-ah… your touch” his shaky exhale melted into a hum that sent a pleasant heat straight into your core.
“It’s just so you won’t forget that you’re mine.” you said, voice a bit shaky as Haku purposefully let out small breathy moans into your ear, riling you up.
He leaned back, a smug smirk plastered onto his face while he slowly crouched down – golden eyes fixed on your flustered face and hands groping your body shamelessly – until he was kneeling in front of your crotch.
“Wouldn’t have it any other way.” he hummed, dipping his fingers under the waistband of your clothes to tug it down.

level 10: A BLOODY CHAT WITH ZENJI???

Hello there!
So, I'm pretty new on Tumblr, even though I've been reading here for a while but never dared to post anything... Since my discovery of the game Tokyo Debunker and the addiction it caused (lol) I noticed how sweet its Fandom was here.
So here I am! First shot here with a drawing of one of my favorite! Hope you'll like it!

"Have you ever thought of marriage?" Haku asks bluntly.
You blink, taken aback by the suddenness of his words.
"What kind of question is that?" you huff out a laughter, wiping your dusty kitchen's counter to keep your hands occupied, otherwise he'd see the way you'd clench your fingers.
However, you still touch your bare ring finger with your thumb.
You see Haku shrug from the corner of your eyes. "Just something I thought of asking."
You hum, slowly dragging your trusty old rag over a spot that was already free of stains and dust, in order to keep your eyes fixed anywhere but him. You think something you're not ready for might happen if you look into his eyes.
"Do you want the simple answer or the honest answer?"
"Is there a difference between them?"
You nod.
"The honest answer, then."
You clear your throat. You turn your back towards him and rummage through your cabinets, looking for nothing at all. A tightness in your throat is the warning sign of a dam you wish not to break.
"I used not to care about it. Didn't feel like it mattered." you murmur, not very confident in the stability of your voice.
"But...?"
"But after the curse, I... Things were put into perspective. I started thinking about mundane things, like marriage. Since I might... since I might not be able to get married, I began thinking about it. What would it be like."
You bite your bottom lip hard, willing the tears that threatened to pool in your eyes to go away.
Haku chuckles and it sounds bitter. Tired.
"We do love to think about things we can't have, don't we?"
You will yourself to turn around to see what kind of expression he was making, but you quicky wish you didn't.
You see longing, desire and despair swirling on his amber eyes like his love is water and he's oil. Meanwhile, you're a third, rotten element that needs to be contained, far far away from him. Because you do. And soon enough, you might have to.
You stand before him. The kitchen counter that stands between you two could very well be an endless ocean, and the distance would feel the same.
"Interesting how we only wish to be normal when we lose all normalcy, huh?" he asks, a crooked smile upon his face as he rests his head on one of his hands.
You wonder how long he has felt like this. Did it begin to feel worse after he met you? Does he think of you in white and in flowers just like you think of him standing on an altar when you can't sleep at night?
You place the palm of your hand on the counter, closer to him, yet afraid to touch. You can't touch. You can't taste happiness only to have it pried from your hands afterward.
"I wish I could be normal with you." you blurt out, but the embarrassment doesn't come. You know these words just cut a deeper wound inside the both of you.
His breath hitches, and he looks down at your hand, swallowing hard.
Haku runs his index finger over your ring finger, painfully gentle with the ghost of a touch. And he whispers, more to himself than to you.
"So do I."
Can I please get a 29❤️ and 33❤️ fluffy for Haku please?

Urgent!!
I am being stalked!
??????
What?? Are you okay, Haku???
Who's stalking you??
Come meet me at the courtyard and I'll show you
... you'll show me? Your stalker?
Yes
Save me please?
... okay...? I'm going
My hero <3

As you hurriedly walk towards the courtyard, your head turn left and right, looking for Haku. The heavy bag on your back slams against you as you jog back and forth, frantically searching for Hotarubi's vice-captain. After all, even though his messages had been a little weird, you didn't want to risk not taking something as dangerous as a possible stalker seriously.
You stop in your tracks once you hear a nearby voice call out your name, and, quickly turning around on your feet, you manage to see Haku's yellow eyes peeking from behind a tree.
Maybe he was trying to hide from someone, you thought.
Swallowing hard, you try to walk quietly towards him in order to avoid any unwanted attention.
"Thank you for coming to save me" Haku say nonchalantly, smiling at you from his seat on the ground and against the tall tree.
You look left and right and wipe the sweat off your forehead, your eyes wide and alert.
“Where are they? Your stalker?” you whisper anxiously while you sit beside him, and Haku’s lips form an ‘o’ before he chuckles as if he had just remembered a hilarious joke.
“Right, the stalker. There it is” he points to the space in front of him.
“What? Where?” you crane your neck, trying to look at whatever was in the distance.
“No, no” he taps your shoulder “It isn't far away. It's really right there. There. Look.” he wiggles his finger, as if it would make you see better.
You squint, looking at the grass. That was all that was in front of him at that moment. Until you see a flash of dark brown jump up and down on the spot, and finally you manage to make out the so-called ‘stalker.’
“That's... a tanuki?” you widen your eyes in surprise after you manage to properly make out the silhouette of the little animal that rolled around between the blades of grass, almost unnoticeable with a little leaf on its head.
It is a tiny little thing. And very round too. Is every cute anomaly round like that?, you think. But then you turn around to face Haku and raise one eyebrow, looking at him in disbelief.
“THAT'S your stalker?”
Haku shrugs.
“It's been following me everywhere the past few days, you know? It’s even trying to sleep on my pillow at night and now I have to be careful not to roll around so I won’t smush it to death. It’s a serious problem, believe it or not.”
You roll your eyes at how Haku smirks while he explains his ‘terrible’ predicament to you.
“Well, why don't you take it to Jabberwock?” you ask. He hisses, as if you had just asked a hard question, and bashfully scratches his cheek
“It wasn’t a lack of trying” Haku then shows you the back of his left hand, where you could see a long and nasty red cut opening the skin. You gasp loudly.
“That tiny thing did this?!”
Haku sighs, nodding as if he also didn’t believe what had happened to him.
“It's a feisty little guy.”
“I can definitely see that” you gaze at the small tanuki with a bit more caution, brows scrunched up in surprise. “Well, first let’s take care of this awful wound and then we think of the rest. Can’t have you dying of tetanus because of a 10cm tall tanuki.” you say, opening your backpack and pulling out a medkit from its confines.
Haku whistles.
“You always carry that with you?”
“Of course. Have you ever spent more than a minute with the other ghouls? I literally need to be prepared for anything.”
This time, Haku laughs genuinely.
“Fair enough.”
You take your time to carefully disinfect his cut, apply one of the many anomalous anointments you had picked up at the general store and then you wait for it to dry before bandaging his hand.
After a few moments of silence, with Haku most definitely basking in the feeling of your hands cradling his, you can't control your curiosity anymore.
“Okay but uh…” you stutter, lightly touching the ointment and then grabbing a clean bandage once you noticed it was dry. “Why did you ask me for my help? I’m just a human.”
Haku looks up, in thought.
“Well, I know you have a way with these little guys. Peekaboo loves you, doesn’t he?”
You hum, not fully convinced.
“But what if it scratches me too?”
Haku leans towards you, suddenly looking serious.
“Then I'll kill it” he murmurs, with a tinge of darkness in his voice.
You gasp loudly, startling the tanuki that had began to take a nap under the sun and in front of you.
“No!!!! Dont!!! It's cute!! Don't kill it!!!” you almost yell, clutching Haku’s hand tightly while you stare at him, eyes wide as saucers.
“Pffftt! Hahaha! It's okay, I was joking. I won't kill it.” he laughs, leaning back against the tree.
You scrunch your brows, looking at him with suspicion, not completely sure that he was just joking right there. You then tap his now bandaged hand lightly and sigh.
“Okay, it's done.”
Haku tilts his head to the side and pouts.
“Aw. Can’t I have a little kiss on my wound to make it better?”
You glare at him for a moment, before pulling his hand towards your lips and kissing his fingers, avoiding the bandage for safety.
You turn your head away quickly so he wouldn’t see you flustered by your own actions, so you manage to miss the way his jaw hangs low, completely taken aback by you.
Haku clears his throat and scratches his cheek again, embarrassed.
“Well, now I really can't kill it. It got me a kiss. Maybe it's my new lucky charm.”
“Stop it.” you gently slap his shoulder. "Okay now... The anomaly." you mutter, more to yourself than to him.
You shift your position, sitting on your feet while you lean towards the lazy tanuki in front of you. The little thing was having the time of its life, warming his round belly under one of the sun rays that peeked through the large tree’s foliage. You stretch your arm towards it, the palm of your hand facing up so it’d climb on its own. You were just guessing what would be the right way to deal with that anomaly, but, much to your surprise, it slowly got up on its stubby little legs and walked towards you, quickly plopping on your hand and resuming its nap.
You get up from your seat carefully, mouth open wide in pure awe while you frantically motion for Haku to get up too. He snorts at the sight of your enthusiasm, also getting up.
“Let's take this guy to a place where he'll be safe now.” you murmur, staring at the anomaly that was fully relaxed in your hands.
“Oh, it's okay, no need to take me anywhere. I'm safe with you” Haku said, smirking.
You finally snapped your head towards the man beside you, feeling your cheeks tingle at his teasing.
“Haku!”
“Hahahaha! Sorry.” he chuckles, raising his arms in defeat. “Yes, let's give it a place to live.”
As you two make your way to Jabberwock, Haku suddenly pouts, feigning hurt while he looks at the creature you were so carefully holding.
“I can’t believe a tanuki managed to take a nap on you before me. You really have a way with conquering us, monsters.”
You sigh. There was absolutely no end to this man's teasing and his flirting, you think.
“Yeah, yeah, whatever you say” you mumble, exasperated. He just laughs, pleased at your reactions.

I tried to make parallels between the smol tanuki and Haku, basically like: they're both lazy and they both quickly like you ;w; I hope it was easy to notice that lmao
