Halt can't sleep during thunderstorms.

It used to be because he was scared but that stopped when he was five. The same year Caitlyn was born.

You see Caitlyn was scared of thunderstorms. Always had been, but in Halt's arms she felt save, it felt like nothing could hurt her as long as she was in her brother's arms.

Halt being the protective brother he is always, without fail, held her during thunderstorms. The climate in Clonmel wasn't that nice so this wasn't a rare event.

Ever since, when the thunder started he went to comfort his sister. It's like second nature to him. He would wake up, often before the thunder even began and go to his sister.

At least, until in he had to flee.

Now in Araluen there's no one he needs to comfort during thunderstorms. Halt just wishes his body could understand that. Because he is laying in bed, he is trying, but he just can't fall asleep.

But how can you change something that is so deep seeded?
