Apollo and gentleness
I really love when I come across instances that emphasize Apollo's gentleness. The first time I came across something like that was in the Iliad:
Even though Apollo is a terrifying deity in the Iliad, his arrows are called gentle - indicating that he brings gentle deaths to people (I have also seen "gentle shafts" get translated as "painless arrows")
His gentle arrows are mentioned again twice in Homer's Odyssey as well:
Later on, I also came across Pindar describing Apollo as the god who is the most gentle towards humans by Pindar (Plutarch is the one quoting Pindar in the first ss)
In Strabo's work, it's said that he challenged humans to practice gentleness
And in the Dionysiaca by Nonnus, Apollo heals Ino with his "gentle hands":
He's capable of great cruelty if you get on his bad side, but he's also capable of great gentleness - gotta love his range :3
