I love High Rhulain

Tiria, seeing a bad parking job: Wow, well done, stupid.

Leatho: That's your car.

Tiria: That's my car. Never mind.

Me reading High Rulain for the first time: Wow! There sure are a lot of parallels to Mossflower! I wonder if, like Gingivere, Jeefa will be the moral better compared to his brother Pitru. Can't wait to see how his character develops!

High Rulain at the end of Chapter Eight:

one of the coolest aspects in Redwall that didn't get expanded upon (mainly because it wasn't relevant) is knowing this may not be an alternative world, but may be our world millenia in the future because of a vague mention of humans, not only in book one, but in book like 16 or 17 (Whichever one High Rhulain is), long after the Early Installment Weirdness wore off.

The bad guy literally says that his ancestors (wildcats) freed his wife's ancestors (domestic cats) from being domestic by some entity that had domesticated them.

Love the idea that wildcats were the first beings to gain sentience, take over the world and enslave other beings, and then like 60000 years later, the other species had grown to also be sentient with humanlike intelligence.

The books that have wildcats - Mossflower, Lord Brocktree, and High Rhulain (and a bit of Redwall itself), LB and MSF take place before the abbey is founded.

Redwall takes place after those two and there's only Julian left.

So they died out on the mainland, but Green Isle is so isolated, it still has a loch ness monster expy - something from the dinosaur age and wildcats who didn't get killed because they didn't go anywhere.

So Green Isle is an island stuck centuries in the past but we can't really tell outside of it's residents bc the world as a whole isn't technologically advanced. It also ties into the fact that there's a direct mention of Kaltag's family being domesticated cats 'by something'.

It's basically this series’ version of a prehistoric setting untouched by time.

That's clever!
