tsukishima x reader - “just one day”
genre: angst
word count: 1982
warnings: ending that is kind of open for interpretation ; some implications

under the cover of the moonlight that bears his name, tsukishima kei denies the sordid idea of love. the silence of the dimly lit park accepted his claim without much of an argument. it was unlike him to stay up this late for such a trifling matter but the vivid memory of yamaguchi's bright smile as he held his lover's hand was quite frankly, disgusting. he finds the thought of relying on someone to bring you joy and a sense of validation stupid. whoever thought that a bunch of neurochemicals rushing through your bloodstream was a beautiful fantasy was a deranged idiot. whoever dumb enough to allow someone inside their most vulnerable walls— dumb enough to trust blindly— deserves every ounce of the inevitable heartache that comes after the wonder of a new experience wears off.
in between his heavy sighs and muffled mumbles courtesy of his half thrown knitted scarf, he paused his steps. he eyed the sight before him oddly. a student right about his age, wearing clothes far too thin for the cool evening breeze, was curled up by the curb of the road. here was another idiot, he mused as he turned up the music blasting through his headphones, just about ready to move past the stranger's form and go back to his rightful place in his bedroom. just about if not for his eyes catching sight of a mewling cat and her baby kittens being sheltered by a worn-out brown coat.
"how long do you intend to stand there?"
he didn't know why but there was a sense of fragility, a tantalizing pull in the smooth way the words traveled to him, despite being barely recognizable in contrast to his music, that coaxed him to pull down his headphones and approach your slouched form.
"you look like a creep, sitting there in the dead of the night."
"probably but you aren't in any place to say that to me."
tsukishima bit back the insult that threatened to come out of his mouth as soon as he felt the lingering taste of it on his mouth. not because he didn't want to offend you, gods no, it's because to battle an inarguable fact with a sloppy insult was synonymous with admitting defeat which was preposterous enough on its own. you weren't even doing anything and yet you were shaking the foundations of his being, getting under his skin and challenging him into some one-sided competition that backed him up against a wall.
"if you were to be born as something else in your next life, what would it be?"
what kind of question was that? tsukishima never thought about the future, much less the baseless belief that something comes after death. he was not religious, often choosing to side with science and things within the reach of reasonable facts.
"i'd be who i am, i guess."
"what a boring answer."
tsukishima scoffed, "and you're any better? pray tell, what might be so interesting that you would want to waste your time thinking about it."
"well... i would like to be a daylily."
he likes to believe that he could read people well. he knew which buttons to press so kageyama would get flustered and start to curse him out. he knew which side of the court he needed to move to with each incoming spike from the opposing team. he knew what words to say that would boost the team's morale in his usual tone without sounding like a bumbling stuck-up. yet as he watched your mysterious smile, he realized you were too much of an enigma to be read.
"it would be nice to be seen as an object of affection- a fragment of love. a declaration of beautiful devotion."
"how poetic. a love that would die within a day."
"how about... a love to die for?" tsukishima rose an unamused brow, "okay... not that convincing but nothing ever lasts in this world. even if love were to end, if it can remain beautiful and fruitful— if it can give you happiness even if it's just for a short time... why deny yourself that?"
"love is overrated. it's people like you who believe those cliches in the movies that make it seem so great when it's just a burden."
"on the contrary, i believe i understand love just right. it's you who's unusually bitter!"
"i'm not."
"you are!"
"tch."
you were childish and tsukishima was half tempted to leave you alone if not for you visibly shivering like a brittle leaf in the middle of winter. with an annoyed sigh, he tugged his scarf off and tossed it to you without looking if it hit you straight in the face.
"what a gentleman. you're so sweet, loverboy."
"shut up."
"i wonder who broke your heart so bad that you deny the prospect of falling in love like it's a disease."
"no one did. it's just stupid how you chase after something that would give you a quarter of rewards for a multitude of migraines."
"get your angst away from me. i bet you're the type of boy to fall for someone within a day."
"what a dumb assumption."
"i stick by it. actually, give me one day and i'll have you groveling on your knees for my affection."
"don't make me laugh. me? in love with you? i'd rather be celibate."
"rude and just for that, i'll succeed no matter what."
"goodbye."
"wait! don't leave! you didn't even give me your name!"
* * * if he was a dog running along the fields without any care in the world then you must be a leech or a mite that refuses to leave him in his space. what were the odds that you went to the same school as he did? his grip on his pen was firm as he turned around to send you the coldest glare he could muster but he faltered. he hated that he faltered as he watched you cough into your sleeve— as he watched you play it off as it was nothing before planting yourself across him and handing him a slice of cake.
"what's this for?"
"snacks! i was waiting for you to drop by the cafeteria as any other sane student would but you didn't come so i brought you food. you need to eat if you want to stay healthy after all!"
"are you my mom, now?"
"i do have the 'mom-friend vibe' but no. i simply believe that highschoolers like you and me take their health for granted too often."
"don't you have anything to do?" he eyed the slice of cake oddly before sighing and biting into it. he shouldn't waste food.
"not really. i have nothing on my agenda but victory."
"you're still going on about that?"
"you bet!"
"get a life."
"you wish!"
* * * "oi."
tsukishima ignored the stabbing motion your finger did against his ribs as his eyes never strayed away from the lines of words printed into his book.
"oi, help me!"
instead of jabbing his ribs, your hand found its way to his thigh, tapping a rhythm he couldn't help but find familiar. he faltered again. your warmth was strangely comforting. he gritted his teeth, jaw flexing as he moved to grip your wrist.
"stop that," you blinked before smiling again, pointing at your half-done workbook.
"how do you get the sum of the three missing variables?"
he bit his cheek in an effort to regain his composure before sighing and motioning for you to get closer. he swore he saw you glow as you moved to sit beside him which felt disgustingly good— like the morning sun against his skin as it slowly rises to its full glory in the clear blue sky of a nice spring day.
tsukishima decided that he didn't like bright things that exuded warmth.
* * * the silence drowned his curses as he eyed you irately from across the court. you have decided to drop by club practice and the knowing smiles and silent cheers of his team were something that pushed him just about over the edge.
"stop that," he subconsciously seethed at yamaguchi who has never stopped glancing at him periodically with the same cheesy smile. this was a misunderstanding. an unwanted predicament he found himself in.
"stop what, tsukki?"
"you're thinking too loudly. it's wrong."
"i was just thinking that hinata seems to be more hyper than usual?"
one glance toward the literal embodiment of enthusiasm and positivity confirmed yamaguchi's thoughts and that made him groan into his hand. what was happening to him?
as he walked over to the coach, he spared one final glance at your form that was curiously watching the volleyball team beside their managers in the bleachers. he hated that for a moment, it felt right. your eyes caught each other and you beamed at him before cheering loudly. he looked away as heat flowed through him in rivers, painting him rose as the beat of his heart matched the rhythm of the beat you thumped on his leg.
* * * "where are you going?"
"home."
"wha— no, you aren't! i didn't stay behind to watch your mad crazy blocks for you to give me such a boring answer!"
"no one asked you to."
"no matter. i'll think of something for your uncreative head."
"i'm not uncreative," tsukishima scoffed as you pulled him along, "where are you taking me? this is kidnapping."
"somewhere fun unlike you."
"tch."
tsukishima hated how he let himself get pulled but as you held his hand, your warmth once again overwhelming him in waves, he thought that maybe, once wouldn't hurt.
"do you want the bubblegum flavor or the chocolate one."
"neither. i hate those things."
"blasphemous but to be honest, they're not top-tier either."
tsukishima might have shown a tiny smile at that. if he were to be honest, this wasn't that bad.
* * * "when you dragged me over to an arcade, i assumed you would be more or less good on at least one of the games but..."
"why are you so rude! it's not my fault i grew up sheltered."
tsukishima looked at you weirdly, "you've never been to an arcade?"
"well, no."
"you're an odd one."
"thank you. i take pride in being 'not like other people.'"
"no. i meant that if you were a dumpling, you would be the deformed one the customers always return."
"i... i do not know what to say to that."
"good."
tsukishima went to the next game and despite hating shooting basketballs and arcades in general, he decided he wanted to win those prizes.
it's not like he'll have to worry about taking them home.
* * * under the cover of the moonlight that bears his name, tsukishima kei denies the sordid idea of love. the silence of the dimly lit park accepted his claim without much of an argument. it was unlike him to grieve over something he barely held especially in the open but a quick look around the park made him decide that it was fine. he finds the thought of relying on someone to bring you joy and a sense of validation stupid and the fact that for a short while he thought otherwise, dumber. you were an idiot for believing in childish fantasies and that love wasn't fickle and him twice so for letting himself be swayed. he hated how he was dumb enough to hope that maybe just a small slip-up would be fine— dumb enough to trust that love would stay. he hated how bitter he feels because no, he didn't deserve this, and neither did you when the wonder of a new experience never had a chance to wear off.
"it seems like you didn't need to wait for reincarnation for you to be a daylily."
sakusa x reader - “memory”
genre: fluff
word count: 546
warnings: none

by the time you woke up, the bed was already missing the warmth of sakusa's body. you felt cold, and a little lonely despite the sunlight that slipped through the window that was left ajar. feet finding themselves on the floorboards that creaked with the added weight, you moved to face the gentle breeze that caressed your skin ever so gently in this clear blue day.
"i don't remember leaving the window open yesterday," you mused as you began your morning routine. a light feeling flowing through your bones as you started the day with a subtle smile on your face.
"—and i certainly didn't brew myself a cup of coffee in the middle of the night," you giggled, a little giddy as you reheated the coffee as instructed by the precise words left on a bright yellow post-it.
quiet, blunt, and distant; sakusa was never the type to open up about himself. it was a wonder that you managed to break through his thoroughly maintained words but you did. years later, he was still the same if not just a little bit more affectionate with his actions. never the one to mutter sweet love songs or profess his undying devotion to you, sakusa still found ways to make sure you knew he loved you like a man deprived of it.
when you could not, he remembers.
it has been about a month since you told him you had trouble waking up in the mornings but the light of the day never fails to do so. on days he could not stay to wake you up himself, he leaves the windows slightly open just enough to wake you before you chastise yourself for sleeping in.
it has been a year since you told him how you liked your coffee. on days he could not greet you with a cup in bed, he brews your cup of caffeine, exactly how you like it, and leaves it in the coffee maker with a little note to remind you to warm it up again.
it has been a year and a half since you told him what your favorite animal was. on days he was far away, the little plush toy he gave you a month back in your anniversary keeps you company so you wouldn't miss him too much. it never works as you end up missing him even more.
it has been two years since you missed a date because you were busy completing your job assignment. on days you found yourself deeply buried with work, you would wake up the following day with more room to breathe and a mysterious text that demands you to take care of your health more.
it has been five years since you told him you liked the glass clock that you saw while walking home from your first date together. on days he stayed behind for a few more hours of practice, you would stare at the clock that hung on your wall, a specially made one that mimicked the one you could not afford when you were still in high school.
your man was never the type to mutter sweet love songs or profess his undying devotion to you but he remembers and you wouldn't have it any other way.
Fluff prompt 14 with Tsukishima please! 🥰
KEI’S RANKING - tsukishima x trader

i don’t think you understand how INSPIRING this combo is. i live for soft tsukki and i just had to write something with a sassy reader, hope this’ll meet your expectations !
fluff prompt 14 : “- you write down every things i say during my sleep ? - that’s when you’re the most romantic”
⤷ tsukishima x reader | BIG FAT FLUFF | word count : 1.5K

every member of karasuno’s volleyball team could agree on the fact that you were a very likeable person, the type of person that one would want by their side all the time. which is why everyone was so stupefied when you started dating tsukishima five months ago. he was actually the one to make the first move, but it didn’t take long for you to give in to his advances, as stolid as they were.
« well, that’s… incredibly unexpected » suga had told you the day the team found out.
and although many people seemed skeptical about a relationship between two people that seemed so different on the inside, you were pretty confident in your choice. you knew what you had gotten yourself into and besides, you were not particularly looking for a needy or clingy boyfriend.
yet, after a few months, you found yourself wishing that tsukishima would be a little bit more demonstrative at times. sure, the fact that he was never initiating cuddles did not mean that he didn’t want them. but the feeling of being spontaneously wrapped in a hug was still foreign to you - and you were craving it.
luckily, there was one specific moment where you could get just the right amount of cheesiness out of him : during his sleep. where drowsy gestures, slurred whispers and sleepy kisses made you think that maybe he craved this kind of affection as much as you did.
ever since that time you had caught him being so clingy in the middle of the night, it became one of your favorite activities to write down all the cheesy things he’d say during his sleep. but you had never planned for him to find out about that on a cold winter day, that you two had decided to spend at your place.
from what you had heard, his practice had ran pretty late yesterday, which explained why he was so tired at only 3pm. not really feeling like doing anything else, you had decided to lay on the couch and watch a movie, even though you both knew that he would never stay awake until the end.
and indeed, he fell asleep twenty minutes later, giving you full opportunity to snuggle up against him without getting annoyed remarks from his grumpy self. in his sleep, he had lazily swung an arm around your waist, holding you loosely for the whole movie. but that was about all you got from him.
as the end credits started scrolling on the screen, you decided to make yourself some tea in the kitchen. but you didn’t even have time to sit on the couch that his grip around your waist tightened as he pulled you back next to him.
slowly, you brushed his hair with your finger, whispering a soft « i’ll be right back, i promise », in hope that his subconscious would get the information.
« let me hold you a bit more… » he mumbled before bringing his head closer to yours. « you smell good »
a smile crept across your face, he always sounded different in these rare moments. almost mechanically, you pulled your phone out to add this in your notes with the rest of his sweet remarks.
« what are you doing ? » he asked, barely awake as you were just about to finish typing. his voice was already back to his usual pitch.
rubbing his eyes before stretching one arm up in the air, it didn’t mean that he stopped looking at you - still pending your answer.
« nothing » you answered, trying to wiggle out of his embrace to hide your smirk.
« yeah, right. give this to me » he replied, swiftly taking your phone in his hands before starting to read. « seriously? » he looked at you, quickly scanning the words in front of him. « you write down every things I say during my sleep? »
with a grin that you didn’t even bother to conceal anymore, you took your phone back before finally getting up from the couch and heading to the kitchen.
« that’s when you’re the most romantic » you chuckled. « and you know what ? i even ranked them.”
« oh please, get a life… » you heard him sigh from the living room.
he sounded unbothered. of course he was. but you knew that, deep down, he was dying to know about all these secret things you had kept hidden from him. and even if he didn’t want to know, you were going to tell him anyway.
waiting for the water to boil, you cleared your throat and began speaking :
« alright… in tenth position we have the timeless : you’re beautiful. pretty basic but still adorable, made me blush pretty hard so i’ll give it a 6.5/10 »
at your words (or rather his), a groan in annoyance reached your ears, but that was not going to stop you. quite the opposite. so you moved on to the ninth, the eighth, the seventh… taking great delight in hearing all his reactions from the living room.
« you’re a psychopath » he told you after hearing the fifth. « i’m dating a psychopath »
“oh come on kei, we just got to the best part ! so… in fourth place we have the oh-so-adorable ‘i can’t believe I found someone like you’ » you kept going, your own voice getting a little bit higher as you remembered how many butterflies this had put in your stomach. « now that one made me want to scream in my pillow... »
oddly enough, tsukisima did not have anything to say about the fourth one. maybe he had just given up on trying to express his annoyance ?
you poured the boiling water in your mug and started to read the next one while looking for a teabag.
« third place is the awfully cute... yet very daring : ‘i want to meet your family’. definitely an 8.5/10 »
« i never said that » he categorically stated. « there is no way I said that.”
tsukishima had already met your parents a few months ago - which meant that maybe a repressed part of himself felt ready to meet the rest of your family ? it was a possibility... well, not according to his wide awake self, apparently.
« whatever... » you brushed him off before plunging the tea bag into the water. « let’s move to the second one, the silver medal, the terribly effective « i’m happy with you ». that one was pretty simple but… wow. you really made your mark there, kei. 9.5/10″
no answer from him for that one either. your phone in your right hand, you grabbed the warm mug with your left and got out of the kitchen.
your eyes were still staring at your phone when you entered the living room, but when you finally looked in front of you, the first thing you noticed was you had never seen such a red tint on tsukishima’s cheeks.
« no way ! it’s the first time i’m seeing you blush! » you chuckled lightly before sitting back next to him.
« will you please shut up… » he sighed, yet still gave you a side glance. « ...what’s in first place? »
these four words and the mere sight of his embarrassed face were enough to make you melt. you were right from the beginning, he was dying to know what his heart and subconscious wanted to tell you while he was asleep. after taking a quick sip from your mug, you put it back on the table and cleared your throat :
« the first one is… drum roll please… »
as you could have guessed, the only drum you got was a slap on your arm from your impatient boyfriend who could not bear the suspense anymore.
« ok, fair enough » you said, rubbing his point of impact with your other hand. « alright so the first place goes to the short and very unexpected : ‘you’re hot, I love you’. sure, it’s not the most romantic... but i can’t even begin to express how ecstatic this made me »
« why? because you didn’t know you were hot?” he asked with a grin, apparently already out of his embarrassment.
« what? no, of course i know i’m hot” you flashed him the same cheeky grin. « but i didn’t know you loved me! »
surprised by your words, his only reaction was a lift of his eyebrow. for a few seconds, you kept staring at him, waiting for the three words you were so desperately hoping to hear.
« don’t make me say it » he let out, point blank. tsukishima was painfully good at eye contacts, which made every single one of his words sound ten times more intense.
« seriously? » you whined. « come on, kei, you had the perfect opportunity to be smooth for once in your life! »
These words had barely left your mouth that your lips were immediately captured by his in a kiss that he was decided to lead from the beginning to the end, his mouth fondly pressed against yours. a victorious smile stretched on your lips, and it only grew bigger with his next words.
« alright… maybe i do love you »
and he leaned in to meet with your soft lips once again, secretly congratulating himself for being so honest in his sleep. because there was no way he could have ever done that wide awake.
