I Knew Both Of My Paternal Grandparents - Tumblr Posts

Good timing. I was thinking about one of my grandmothers yesterday. :)

I would like to talk about my other grandmother here, though, since I know the most about her.

We always think of her when we go to her old house for certain holidays. Two of my uncles own the house now, but we always call it Grandma's house anyway. She also had a delicious nut bread recipe! One of my aunts has the recipe now, but for whatever reason, Grandma's was just something else.

I miss her. I miss all of my grandparents, but Grandma was one of the most consistently present in my life. She and Grandpa babysat me and my brother when my parents were busy, though we easily spent more time with her than we did with him. She took us shopping at the local Shop 'n' Save. She cooked and baked delicious stuff for us, and we helped out a bit when we got old enough. She was special, and we were lucky to have her.

She died in early 2014, when I was 11. She had pancreatic cancer. One of the last conversations I remember having with her was about my grandfather and her last moments with him; he died in 2010. She remembered staring into his eyes has his heart rate on the monitor dropped, holding his hand and telling him how much she loved him. All he could do was stare back at her since he had some kind of surgery on his throat, keeping him from talking. As his heart stopped, and he slipped into the void, she sent him off with a kiss.

It's incredible how quickly life moves, isn't it? How much can happen in just a few years? I wonder what she'd think of me and my brother now.
