I love that Blitzâs self-hatred has teeth. Itâs not packaged into an easily digestible form where the character cries a little, says something self-damaging to another character, and then gets comforted out of it. Thereâs nothing wrong with that, it has its place, but, personally, the sharpness of Blitzâ self cruelty makes him such an interesting character.
It warps his perspective until he only sees potential attacks from others, never their care. He pushes people away before they get close enough to, in his mind, leave him to die alone. The fear of abandonment tied to the self-hatred has him alternately blowing off people or getting so far into their business they get upset. Heâs not great at showing care and love to others, even when he feels it deeply, because doing so makes him vulnerable. His past mistakes are not seen as mistakes by him, but as big, glaring character flaws, and they feel so encompassing he runs from them instead of taking responsibility.
He has a string of failed relationships and his current relationships have friction directly related to the symptoms of his self-hatred. I love when self-hatred gets externalized and causes problems. I love when itâs not something used only to garner audience sympathy but is treated as an understandable character flaw deserving of empathy.

No, I havenât forgotten about Rin and Milan and their whole back story. Homegirlâs energy has just been zapped for some reason, but I tried to get some sketches out!
Milan was born to abusive drug dealer parents in 1974. During a particular drug bust in 1980, she was exposed to drugs and died from the exposure. She wound up being one of those Winner-Exorcists in Heaven, unaware of her origin - even if she does have vague flashbacks to her life on earthâŠbut @virginia-exorcist is quick to reassure her those are nothing more than strange dreams.
She eventually starts dating Exorcist Rin, and they communicate via sign language (Milan at this point is mute and Rin is deaf). Rin is also a Winner-Exorcist (she died as a child in a Japanese internment camp during WW2).
Occasionally, the Archangel Michael checks on the status of the Exorcistâs training, and he found Rin to be full of potential. He started to train her harder than any of the other Exorcists, hoping that she would take over from Adam and Lute since he found Adam to be far too brash. So when he found out that she was dating Milan and trying to find a way out of the ExorcistsâŠhe wasnât happy.
She didnât want to be cast to Hell (who knows what Sinners might do to an Exorcist?) but staying in Heaven was dangerous. She figured the best way to protect herself and Milan was to go into hiding in Purgatory. She hasnât been seen since.
âI love youâ were the first words Milan ever said.
Now the recruits run to König when Ghost is being extra harsh. It becomes a game of âhow quick can I find and be in the same room as König without getting caught by ghostâ. König doesnât even notice. The escapees and König have to be in the same room and Ghost will move on since heâs afraid of König. But, this unfortunately only postponed judgement instead of fully getting away.
König is scared of Ghost in the beginning but he quickly realizes heâs bigger and stronger than Ghost. And that Ghost is actually scared of him. His aggressive comments was an attempt to assert dominance and hide his fear of the bigger man. One day Ghost is yelling at recruits and König decides that he doesnât like seeing the young men and women close to tears.
âSuch the fuck up.â
Ghost turned to look at him, their eyes meeting. König walked right up to him and glared down at him. Ghost glares but König could see in his eyes that he was screaming internally.
âWhat did you say?â
König leans closer, âDidnât you hear me? Shut. The fuck. Up.â
The recruits faces were priceless. The shock and wonder as König challenged the meanest man on base. König could see the scared little boy in Ghostâs eyes and that he was doing everything in his power to not back down and submit.
âLieutenant Riley.â
Ghost breathes out and steps back, looking at Price. Conor was with him but he said nothing, just stood there with his arms crossed. König glares one last time at Ghost before walking to Conor. The man pats Priceâs shoulder before they start to walk off. Once they were far enough away, Conor spoke.
âThat was⊠interesting.â
âI donât like bullies.â
âI can see that.â
