My brain: Anakins first reaction when helping to kill Mace is to scream “What have I done!” He immediately knew what mistake he had just made. He likely knew that the clones would be forced to become mind controlled killers for Palpatine. He knew that both Obi Wan and Ahsoka would be put in danger along with every other Jedi. He knew that Padme would be horrified, that she would likely oppose Palpatine and would be put into danger because of that(Dooku literally tried to have her killed prior). He knew what the Sith are and what this new empire would do to countless people.

He very likely understood what the consequences of this would be, but the offer of never having to lose anyone ever again was just too tempting for him to give up, even at the expense of everyone he loved and the galaxy at large.
