For the first time in your tenure as head counselor of the Athena Cabin, you wake up before your alarm. 

You’re an extremely busy person, so you cherish every second of sleep you can get, but you’re somehow wide awake right now. Rubbing your eyes, you stretch out across your bed like a cat before sitting up. It’s so early that the sun hasn’t risen, and the birds haven’t begun chirping yet. Glancing over, you check the time on your clock.

4:30 AM. 

You’re thirty minutes ahead of schedule, and you start to feel slightly suspicious about it. It’s rare that you can even get five minutes to yourself, much less thirty.

Seems almost too good to be true.

Regardless, you decide to take advantage of it anyways and go on a light jog to clear your mind. Changing into your athletic wear, you tiptoe out of the Athena Cabin (which proves a harder task than you think, since everything seems to creak whenever it’s dead silent) and begin your jog.

You run along the property line, which separates Camp Half-Blood from the outside world, but also serves as an entrance to the camp for those able to pass through the border. It’s an easy terrain because it’s just basically, as the name implies, a straight line stretched across the camp.

Just as you finally begin to break a sweat, your momentum comes to a screeching halt when you notice a dark lump up ahead—right on top of the property line. In fact, half of the lump is still technically outside of the camp. 

As you get closer, you realize it’s not a lump at all.

It’s a body.
