Whenever I'm studying Marxism (and that's quite a lot of times actually) I remember Marx's idea that Revolution can only take form through hate.

Of course, I know now it's a very specific form of hate and that it's pointed to a specific community of people but when I started learning about it, I often found myself rebelling at the notion of hatred as a conductive to Revolution.

I thought hate was too volatile, too savage to be trustworthy but as I grow older and see the world as it is I see myself tasting that hate — and it's hard to actually put into words but this hatred is not ugly and unpredictable.

This hatred is actually quite beautiful, it's not a firing blaze scorching down the earth but a burning fire cleansing a wound, it's born out of indignation and love for humankind. It's there because I love humanity so much I can't help but feel the indignation for what happens to us to my very core and I can't help but turn this into anger, into hatred against those I know are responsible for this.

I really think Marx was onto something with this besides the whole political and economic points he usually made.

Seeing images of celebrities "transformations" after they've become well-known and successful in the form of weight loss, dental work, etc. (Trixie Mattel and Chris Rock being notable examples of dental work) has the same energy as those news headlines you hear about children who have to put in literal labor to pay their classmates' lunch debt.

That is to say, the emphasis of these observations and stories is meant to be heartwarming or give you the mindset that "anything is possible if you work hard enough!", when in reality it's actually incredibly depressing because people shouldn't have to suffer this much or have this much of a burden just to feel like they've "worked hard", the same way making it in any creative industry should be about perfecting your craft and not about how you can potentially (if you're lucky and well connected enough that is) escape systemic poverty by doing so.

Massive protests against the 2024 Finance Bill continue in Nairobi and across Kenya. Parliament has been stormed, and City Hall set on fire.

The bill imposes taxes that will further impoverish those already suffering from the increasing cost of living. The government even tried to put a tax on bread and cooking oil, but this was apparently withdrawn. The International Monetary Fund is putting pressure on president Ruto to impose austerity measures and raise taxes.

Supreme Court staff and lawyers helping demonstrators with water.

Some protestors have been shot, with fatalities. The police have apparently arrested a number of paramedics trying to treat the wounded.

Homes of several MPs who support the finance bill have been looted and set ablaze. I have no sympathy.

A protestor stated:

“We are the flames burning up the country. We cannot stand still while we are robbed and made poor. “This movement will not stop until we have won. They can kill us but they can’t beat down our movement.”
