Caretaker jumps up as Whumper bundles Whumpee back into their cell. They’re gagged with a leather panel strapped tightly over their mouth and when Caretaker goes to release it they find it’s padlocked.

Whumper is still standing in the doorway and Caretaker looks up at them. “How long do they have to wear it?” they ask helplessly.

“If they won’t talk to me, they won’t talk at all,” says Whumper. “Or eat or drink, of course. I hope they agree to answer my questions before it’s too late.”
