You wanted to speak, to say anything, it didn't matter what you said, you just had to say it. Anything. No matter how hard you pleaded, not a single word made its way past your blood-stained lips.
Everything around you was loud, loud enough to burst your eardrums, but at this moment you swore it was the most blood-chilling silence you had ever heard.
Nothing made sense, and the little bit of normality you had with you, was gone now. Or, in any case, it was leaving.
Normality, in this instance, was laying in your lap as you stroked his blond bloodied hair. Normality was looking up at you, his typically soft brown eyes were bloodshot and fearful. Normality was Bang Chan.
Chan, it hurt to think of him. Especially like this, looking at him now compared to how you were used to seeing him.
Just until a few days ago, he had no clue you existed. You were a junior and he was a sophomore. Worlds apart, despite being in the same building.
When you first met him, you ran into him headfirst in the hallway, both running in opposite directions. Thinking back now, you noticed how different you had become in such a short amount of time.
Back then, you had been able to blend in, you weren't in any extracurriculars, you weren't top of your class, if anything, people knew you because of your loud friends. Your friends, you recalled them with pain, you watched them turn, one by one. First was Felix, then Seungmin and Minho, and finally Jeongin. You'd also remembered Jisung, Changbin, and of course, Hyunjin, even if you didn't know them before this whole thing started, losing them still took a toll on you.
Each of them were picked off like bugs, your originally large group dwindled until all that remained were you and Chan. You still remember the look on each of their faces, you thought you wouldn't experience a worse death than your brother's, Jeongin's, just yesterday. You watched as your former classmates, now mutilated and screaming, bit into him. To everyone else, it happened in a flash, but to you, everything was in slow motion. His scream still rang fresh in your head, your group had been cornered and you had just lost Jisung and Changbin not even 20 minutes previous when you tried to make your way up to your school roof in an attempt to find a safe place within sight of any rescuers. The small smile on your brother's face didn't match his sad eyes or the tear that was now rolling down his cheek. He used his last humane moments to hold back your former classmates as Hyunjin and Chan pulled you away from him.
Back then you had been yelling and crying to not leave him, the only thing that quieted you was when you heard Jeongin choke out a "sorry," before his head lolled to the side and you lost him to the same madness that seemed to overtake everyone around you.
Now, however, you were quiet as a mouse, staring at the man in front of you as blood pooled on your uniform. The blood wasn't yours, but you wished it was, you wished for anything but this outcome.
You pulled yourself out of your thoughts to look at him, to look at Chan, your last shred of dying hope. Just moments ago you had all the hope in the world, running up the last flight of stairs to the roof.
The two of you had spent the night in a storage closet, hiding from the horrors that had become of your school. You'd just lost Hyunjin, though not the way you would've ever hoped to;
Having run past a horde of mauled and blood-splattered students, the three of you managed to get into the small storage room, faint smiles and exhausted pants of relief were heard. You were so close to escaping, to having your lives back, or at least being able to keep the pieces that were left. Looking around, you and Chan looked at each other, you saw his tired smile, you had both gone through so much in the past 48 hours that making it into the small cramped room felt like an accomplishment. Your eyes darted to Hyunjin, who instead of looking relieved, looked beyond mortified. He held his hand to his cheek, he slowly looked up at you. Tears that pricked at his eyes threatened to fall, at first, you assumed he was grieving over your lost friends, that was until he removed his hand from his face and you saw what he was so scared about. He gingerly felt the top of the wound, the flesh was bumpy and a bright red, it wasn't a deep gash, but it was very clearly a bite. Drops of blood glittered along his cheekbones, and the surrounding skin was bruised.
He didn't look like the Hyunjin you remembered, the Hyunjin you had grown to know in the past days was determined to live, even when he lost his closest friends. You weren't exactly friends with him before this, but Felix was, in truth, Felix was friends with everyone. You remembered how fondly the freckled boy had spoken of Hyunjin, he'd mentioned his beauty as well, which you were skeptical about until you met him. Now, Felix was gone and Hyunjin's normally fair skin was marred, his beautiful demeanor expressed nothing but fear.
You called for Chan, who was still catching his breath. Everything happened in a heartbeat after that, you remembered seeing Hyunjin's panic as he stared at you, his tears finally freeing themselves. He took a step back, knocking over a broom that was propped up against the wall. Painfully remembering his words then, "I'll be fine won't I?" His voice was barely above a whisper and you could tell he already knew.
Chan grabbed a bottle of window cleaner from off a shelf behind him, holding it out like a weapon to Hyunjin, who was just centimeters away from the bottle due to the cramped atmosphere of the closet. Hyunjin gave Chan a shaky look, his hand just barely covering his face, fingertips timidly touching his cheekbone as he slowly processed what was happening.
Watching Hyunjin wipe his tears and ask you guys again if he would be fine was one of the most painful things you had endured since Jeongin's death. What had gone wrong? You were just safe, your hope had been evident in your exhausted pants and small smiles, but now that had come shattering down once more. Hyunjin stammered as Chan kept a firm grip on the small liquid-filled bottle.
Well aware that Chan was struggling with what he was doing, he couldn't make the same mistake that your group had made before.
The first day the attacks started, Seungmin had gotten bitten, it was a small bite, and it had barely pricked the skin so you decided if you kept a watch on him, everything would be fine. You thought he could withstand it, but you were wrong. Minho was watching Seungmin, he'd volunteered to keep an eye on him. Seungmin lasted two hours, it was the longest you'd seen someone stay coherent so you'd all assumed he'd gotten lucky. You were asleep when it happened, Minho and Chan were the only two awake, but you remembered the scream that woke you, the sound of tearing flesh. And the sobs that followed Minho's body hitting the cold classroom floor before convulsing in a pool of his blood. From what you recalled, Chan was the one to push Seungmin out the door, throwing Minho out soon after. Everyone looked at him, a mix of regret and pain in his eyes. You couldn't imagine how he felt, and now here he was in that same situation with you and Hyunjin.
Chan didn't take his eyes off Hyunjin, who stood rooted in place, lips quivering and tears streaming down his face.
You stepped forward just for Chan to turn toward you in a warning, you both knew Hyunjin didn't have long, but you didn't want to spend your last moments terrified of him. You had grown close to Hyunjin through all of your struggles, you ignored Chan's warning and encased Hyunjin in a hug. "I'm so sorry Jinnie."
Chan lowered the bottle he was holding and timidly joined the two of you, a sob sounding in his throat. The hug had the opposite effect you had hoped for, you felt anxious, the realization that no matter what you did, these were going to be your last moments with Hyunjin.
Recalling the way his head grew heavy and his body went limp in your arms, you and Chan already knew what you had to do.
With sad eyes, you watched as Chan picked up Hyunjin from behind, restricting his arms, you noticed the veins around Hyunjin's wound were now bulging, and his skin had turned a ghastly shade of white. You held the door open for Hyunjin and Chan, luckily the corridor was quiet now. Chan took Hyunjin to the door directly across from the storage room, carefully propping open the door to put him down gently when Hyunjin's eyes shot open, bloodshot and red he snarled in Chan's grasp, flailing around. He was making too much noise, if Chan waited any longer he would end up like Hyunjin. So instead, he flung Hyunjin across the hall and ran toward the closet where you stood, waiting expectantly by the frame.
The second Chan had sprinted inside, you slammed the door shut. More of your infected classmates had made their way outside your door, luckily there were no windows for them to see you, or worse, for you to see them.
You and Chan spent the night in that dark cramped closet, you weren't sure what about him or your situation made you open up to him, but you found yourself saying things you thought you would take to your grave, maybe it was the fact that you couldn't tell for sure if either of you would see tomorrow, but both you and Chan poured your souls out to each other.
You remembered the intense hope you had felt that morning, you had lost Hyunjin, but you were closer than you had ever been with Chan.
Not to mention you had a chance, you were so close to the school roof, it was right past the next hallway and up the last flight of stairs to the rooftop door.
What happened to that chance?
Oh, that's right, your supposed plan had failed, your hope dying beside you.
You fought tooth and nail to get to the roof, and now there you sat, your companion laying in your lap, with lidded, red-rimmed eyes staring back at you.
Tears were falling down your cheeks as you brushed your hands through his hair once more. If the two of you had been like this under any other circumstance, it would've been a tender moment, but right now, your whole world was crashing down.
You had made it to the roof with Chan, but at what cost?
"Don't leave me here," you whimpered, you hated feeling vulnerable, but right now as your last morsel of faith slowly turned into what you feared most, you couldn't help it, "don't leave me alone". You were finally able to choke through a whisper.
Chan didn't take his eyes off you, he reached his bloodied hand up to your face, his movements were slightly rigid and you could tell it took most of his remaining energy. Despite that, he still leaned his hand against your face, softly moving the hair that was covering your eyes, his fingers twitching as he did, you felt a slight flick against your forehead but you didn't mind. Right now, you were just trying to savor your last moments with him.
Chan's veins grew darker, especially around the torn flesh on his bicep, his school uniform was blood-stained and he looked as if he were in immense pain. He rasped, "leave," it was one of the last things he said to you. You understood what he meant, and you understood why he said it. This was probably your last chance to save yourself, just open the door back down to the school and haul him inside, it was simple in nature.
He gurgled out something else, you weren't able to hear him before his rasping turned to long breaths. You closed your eyes, you chose to remember Chan for the person you had talked to in that storage room, for the person who had protected and fought for you, the person who had tried his hardest to remain strong throughout the chaos.
You grabbed his hand in yours, eyes closed shut as you listened to his bones crack and felt him shift around in your hold, his knuckles twisted in your grasp. Hearing his gasps and cut off words, you tried to remember his voice, his slight accent, how he spoke with a smile when he remembered something, the way his voice sounded when he whispered. Your mind flashed to Jeongin, and Felix, to your friends, maybe you would see them again. Maybe you could laugh with them again, even if it wasn't in this lifetime.
Your hope hadn't died yet, it was too late to turn and leave, you knew that, but as you recalled all of your friends together that very first night, sitting next to Chan in that storage closet, a new hope sparked in your chest, that maybe, just maybe, you wouldn't be alone.
Eyes still shut, you spoke out to Chan one last time;
"This way, you won't leave me."

Wind weaved through your hair as you looked out at the blur of green passing beside you, chin resting cupped in your left hand. The sun was setting, a mere glint on the horizon behind masses of trees, the sky a stunning pastiche of soft pinks, bold oranges, and fluffy wisps of clouds outlined in sparkling gold. Your eyes took it all in as you inhaled deeply, a gentle smile pulling up the corners of your lips.
You were slightly startled from your daze as a hand came down to rest on your thigh. Slim fingers squeezed the flesh slightly, teasingly even, though your eyes and thoughts were immediately drawn to the simple yellow gold band sitting snugly on his ring finger, gleaming in the light. Your smile deepened as you set your hand atop his and looked over at your own ring on your other hand; slightly more elaborate, with your favourite gemstone sat amongst small crystals on an otherwise simple, narrow, white gold band. Eventually you allowed your gaze to move up to your fiancée, heart melting as you did. Golden hour suited him well, somehow both softening the strength of his face and accentuating his bold features. It highlighted the planes of them perfectly, and before you knew it, you were staring, wondering if you ever wouldn't be in total awe of the man you still couldn't believe had agreed to marry you.
"Is there something on my face? Oh you're practically drooling, doll," Felix smirked tauntingly, eyes glimmering with boyish mischief. He pulled off a roundabout and onto a long, empty road, allowing him to finally return your gaze properly, however shortly. He grinned as you blushed and looked back down at your hands, the cool breeze beginning to raise goosebumps on your skin. He noticed immediately, removing his hand from your leg to rummage around blindly in the back seat for a moment. The flesh tingled, still slightly weighty as if his hand had never left - as if he'd inexplicably marked you with its print forever. After a few seconds he produced a large hoodie; your favourite of his. He tossed it onto your lap, smile mellowing, and returned his hand to rest on your thigh, spreading a comfort and familiarity in your chest that almost brought you to tears. You could never have thought such security existed. "What are you thinking about, darling?" He asked quietly, voice almost carried away on the wind, his own hair playing at his neck and rippling around his forehead as he focused on the road. You pulled the homey material over your head and began playing with his fingers, twisting his ring around and holding his hand in different ways as you took in his scent and revelled in its warmth.
"I can't believe we're engaged," was all you could respond, hushed voice making it sound like your biggest secret. He shot you a grin, interlacing his fingers with yours and giving your hand a gentle squeeze.
"I can, everyone is grossed out every time they're in the same room as us," he pointed out with a chuckle, to which you rolled your eyes derisively.
"True, just…" You faltered, again turning your gaze to the scenery out of the window, admiring the small blue and red wildflowers that were beginning to bloom as time passed slowly further into spring. "I can't believe you're real sometimes. Someone so perfect has agreed to marry me of all people," He frowned, although you couldn't see it, and squeezed your hand again.
"Uh oh, looks like someone's taken too many 'chat absolute shit' pills," he hummed seriously, causing you to snort.
"What are you talking about?" you giggled, both of you tearing your eyes from the blurred road at the same time to share an amused look.
"I'm not perfect, and you know it. You've seen me at my lowest moments just as I have yours. You just see your own flaws more than mine because you're surrounded by them all the time," You hummed at his words, biting the inside of your cheek slightly.
"Being at your lowest doesn't make you any less perfect, Lix,"
"Maybe to you," he smiled, letting the other half of his sentence hang stifling in the air for a moment as he made a right turn and checked the GPS. "But you're perfect to me no matter what too, so. Checkmate, or whatever." He grinned, tongue poking at his teeth, and you couldn't help but bring his hand to your lips to place an appreciative kiss on the back of it. You moved away from the door and snuggled your head into the crook of his neck the best the current situation would allow. His arm was still outstretched into your lap, leaving you wrapped around it like a koala. A blush burned at the tips of his ears, and you shut your eyes upon seeing it in silent satisfaction. Felix was just as awestruck as you were, and you hoped your mutual adoration would last long into the lives you'd now promised each other. "I love you just as you are, so even if you don't feel that way about yourself, don't put down the love of my life like that." You nodded against his shoulder as his deep voice sent vibrations through you, as ever thankful for the fact he always knew exactly what to say. You didn't fully understand it sometimes, but he was with you for a reason (or many, as he'd rather put it,) and you trusted him enough to believe in his sincerity.
Twilight began to blossom, purples and blues fighting through the muddle of warm tones and argent stars taking their places to twinkle amongst the glowing half moon that was already set high above you. As he pulled onto another desolate road he dared lower his face to plant a hurried kiss onto your forehead, to which you responded by pressing your lips to his jaw and nuzzling further into his shoulder. You weren't really headed anywhere in particular, just enjoying the evening together, and you hoped tonight he'd allow you to stretch this forming memory just a little longer after the sky became dark.

❥ A/N: hehe here’s my entry for @neo-shitty’s little timestamp event! i’m hella tired, so it’s not proofread. so if anyone who finds any typos and errors could let me know… that’d be great. don’t think i have the energy to go through it myself. anyway! i hope you all enjoy this little piece 💛

you let out a small sigh as you walked through the automatic sliding glass doors of your university cafeteria, immediately hit with the cold breeze from the multiple air conditioners mixed with the whiff of ocean scented air freshener.
walking past stall after stall to make it to where your boyfriend usually sat, your stomach grumbled a little at the smell of pancakes and syrup—and then sausages and baked beans—and then finally… porridge and fried rice from the stall labelled “southeast asian cuisine”.
a few tables away, your eyes finally caught a glimpse of a familiar figure dressed in all black sitting at the table right by a large glass window. the rays of sunshine pouring through barely missed his slouched over body as he rested his head on the table, his face hiding behind his crossed arms and the visor of his cap.
chuckling, you picked up the pace a little, quickly making your way over to stand right behind his chair. and with a soft smile, you ran a gentle hand along upper section of his hoodie-clad spine, making him flinch slightly from the sudden sensation as he quickly lifted his head, eyes blinking away the exhaustion.
‘morning, sunshine~’
‘morning…’ he drawled with a little groan as he sat up, face scrunched into a pout with his eyes barely open. he let out a small yawn, stretching one arm while rubbing his eye with the other.

❥ A/N: just a little something i wrote for you all while i’m away~ i hope you like it? i don’t usually write stuff like this ahahahah. lmk if it was okay…? and please reblog! this isn’t proofread btw. didn’t have time for that (p.s. buttons, this is especially for you)

standing in front of the mirror, you frowned as your eyes scanned over every inch of your body, feeling smaller and smaller with every second that passed by.
your thighs weren’t small enough.
your stomach wasn’t toned enough.
your arms weren’t thin enough.
nothing of yours ever felt enough. no matter how much you tried… you were never enough. never enough for your parents. never enough for your friends. never enough for yourself. and everyone always took every opportunity they had to remind you of that.
tears stung your eyes, the whites taking on a slight reddish tint as your mind kept repeating the same painful thoughts over and over. you wanted to cry. you desperately wanted to cry, but you couldn’t. you didn’t have the energy. crying would be so much easier but your body never allowed for things to be easy. you had to stand there with sobs clogging your throat, eyes glistening with tears that refused to shed, and a sick feeling in your stomach.
you weren’t sure how long you stood there, just staring at yourself. you couldn’t bear to look at yourself, and yet you couldn’t bring yourself to look away. it was as if your brain wanted to torture you. as if you deserved it.
completely engrossed in your thoughts, you didn’t even realise when jisung had made his way to the bedroom, arms crossed as he leaned against the door frame, simply staring at your static figure. he chewed on his lip and let out a small sigh, knowing exactly what was going through your head. it wasn’t the first time he’d caught you staring at yourself, a blank look of longing in your eyes.
he took small, slow steps approaching you, arms reaching over to meekly wrap around your waist, making you jump a little from the sudden sensation.
‘it’s just me, sweetie,’ he whispered, placing a kiss on your shoulder before placing his chin on top, looking at you through the mirror. calming your thumping heart, you turned your head to the side to look at him and forced a smile.
‘hi, when did you get home?’
‘hm, just got here,’ he hummed, swaying your body ever so slightly. ‘how long have you been standing here?’
‘huh? oh uh… i don’t know. not too long, i guess.’
‘really? because it’s been 5 minutes since i saw you standing here and you haven’t moved an inch.’
jisung pouted his lips slightly and you let out a sad chuckle. ‘sorry. i didn’t realise.’
he shook his head, his hair tickling your cheek slightly, forcing a faint smile to fall on your lips. ‘don’t apologise, sweetheart. tell me what’s going on in that beautiful mind of yours.’
‘nothing,’ you lied, not wanting to worry him. you knew how upset he got whenever he listened to you talk yourself down and you didn’t want to be the reason he couldn’t get a moment of peace after a long day at work. he came home to rest, you thought, not listen to your woes about things you could not change.
‘hmm… i see.’ there was a short pause before he pressed a quick kiss to your cheek. ‘look in the mirror.’
‘hm?’
‘look at my face,’ he said in a hushed tone and your eyes flickered to his reflection, meeting his gentle gaze. ‘i look so bloated today. and look at those dark circles. they make me look like a zombie. and yknow what, i think my cheeks are too chubby,’ he complained with a pout.
‘no they’re not.’
‘yes they are.’
you frowned. ‘don’t say that. you’re beautiful. i love your cheeks. especially when you eat and they fill up with food like a squirrel,’ you let out a small giggle, hand reaching up to pinch his stretchy cheek. ‘you look adorable.’
‘i don’t see why you like them,’ jisung shrugged, his face remaining expressionless, lips pressed into a thin line.
‘you don’t have to. just take my word for it. you’re beautiful. so so beautiful. even if you don’t see it.’
‘but what if… i told you someone said i didn’t look good. that i always looked too tired. that my face always looked swollen.’
your frown deepened the more he spoke, anger building up in your body. why would anyone say something like that to the sweetest human ever?
‘who said that?’ you asked right as you turned in his hold to face him. ‘give me their address. i’ll go teach them a lesson.’
jisung shrugged. ‘it’s their opinion.’
‘well their opinion is wrong. what’s the point of saying something mean that won’t benefit someone in any way? they just wanted to make you feel bad. you look perfect just as you are,’ you said with conviction, hands travelling up to hold his face in your palms. ‘you shouldn’t pay attention to people like that. they’re just projecting their insecurities onto you. no person who actually cares about you would say something so inconsiderate. and you don’t need to care about what they say since they clearly don’t care about you.’
jisung pressed his lips in a line to conceal his smile and nodded. he placed his hands on your wrist, pulling them away from his face, and laced his fingers with yours. ‘so why can’t you do the same?’
the moment his words settled in your brain, the angry creases in your forehead relaxed, eyes widening a little as you stared at him. you sputtered a little, trying to speak, to say something, but nothing came out. jisung let out a breathy chuckle, unlacing one hand to place it right under your jaw, his thumb rubbing circles in the soft expanse of your cheek.
‘you shouldn’t care about the opinions of people who clearly don’t care about your feelings either.’
‘t-that’s not the same.’
‘why?’
‘because… they’re right,’ you murmured, eyes darting away.
‘no they’re not. hey, look at me,’ he whispered, searching for your eyes as they travelled in every direction but his face. your lips quivered and you shook your head, afraid that you’d cry the moment you looked at him.
‘love… please?’ he tried again, finally getting you to relent. you turned your head to face him, eyes sparkling with tears you refused to shed. ‘i wish you could see yourself from my eyes. then you’d realise just how beautiful you are,’ he said softly, thumb brushing gentle strokes over your skin, his other hand pressing yours to his chest.
the corners of your lips pulled downwards and you looked away once more, shaking your head.
‘you don’t have to believe me. just take my word for it?’ he said, repeating your words. ‘i love every part of you.’
you looked into his eyes, a teardrop hanging at the corner of your eye. ‘why?’
‘why what?’
‘why do you love me? there are so many better people out there and–’ you cut yourself off, pouty lips hiding your clenched teeth. you couldn’t bear to continue. it hurt to even think about admitting that you felt you weren’t good enough for the man you loved most.
‘well of course there are better people out there. there are better people than me too. but you my love? you’re perfect for me,’ he pressed a kiss to your cheek. ‘i don’t want anyone better. i just want you. you’re kind, you take care of everyone around you, you take care of me, you’re my rock, my motivation, you’re the reason i actually believe there’s any good in this world.’ he breathed in deeply before continuing. ‘for so long… i felt broken on the inside. and completely alone. and i don’t feel that way with you. you’re my home. my haven. how could there be anything better?’
with every word that left his lips, you seemed to cry harder and harder, audible sobs leaving your lips as your forehead rested on his shoulder, his hand moving to rub circles on your back.
‘you’re more than enough for me, darling,’ he said, voice quivering just a little as he tried to control his own emotions. he didn’t want to cry in front of you. he knew he could, but he didn’t want to. he wanted to cheer you up. to make you smile.
jisung held you close, letting you cry for as long as you needed to, until your sobs subsided to small sniffles. pulling away, he wiped the tears off your cheeks with a small chuckle.
‘i love your beautiful eyes,’ he confessed, pressing a kiss on each eyelid.
‘even when they’re red and puffy from all the crying?’
‘especially then.’ his response made you laugh through your tears. ‘and i love your beautiful pretty little cheeks.’
kiss.
i love your nose.
kiss.
your lips.
kiss.
even your cute little chin.
kiss.
‘and your body? god…’ he breathed out, hands travelling down to your waist. stepping back, he looked you up and down and lets out a low whistle, eyebrows raised as he marvelled every inch of your body before looking back into your eyes and deliberately biting the side of his bottom lip.
you let out a small laugh, cheeks heating up. ‘stop it,’ you said, playfully smacking his bicep and he laughed.
‘what? it’s true. i could stare at you for hours and it still wouldn’t be enough.’
you rolled your eyes playfully and circled your arms around his neck, pulling him a little closer. ‘anything else?’
his eyes darted upwards and he hummed in deliberation. ‘how much time do you have? i could go on for days.’
you let out a loud laugh, shaking your head, and the man in your arms laughed along, happy to see the worried lines on your face dissipate. ‘you’re too much.’
‘and you’re just enough.’
‘okay i get it,’ you rolled your eyes playfully, having heard his little reminder enough times for it to ease your worries for the day at the very least. jisung smiled and pulled you closer by the waist, kissing you softly.
‘i know you don’t,’ he mumbled before pressing another chaste kiss, then pulling away. ‘but it’s okay. i’ll always be here to remind you how beautiful you are. and how amazing you are. and how incredibly in love i am with you. one day you’ll see yourself the way i do.’
‘and if i don’t?’
‘hmmm… that’s okay too. i’ll remind you for the rest of my life if i have to.’
‘you love me that much?’
‘i love you even more than that, darling. so much more than you can imagine. you’re my safe space. my most beautiful home. life would feel empty without you.’
you felt your heart swell with emotion, tears collecting in your waterline—but this time… from happiness and gratitude instead. not having enough words to express yourself, you rested your head against his shoulder, hugging him tighter than you ever did before. as if he’d disappear if you let go—and you couldn’t afford that. he was your home too.
your safe haven.
