Nick’s eyes are green and that the color green encapsulates Jay—almost like the green light does but of course with Nick. The color green has such a chokehold on Jay (because it’s the color of Nick’s eyes) that he’ll often buy green flowers, either dyed roses or carnations or something else that’s green, and he’ll set them around the house just because they remind him of Nick’s eyes. And when Nick comes over, he’ll note Gatsby’s sudden interest in florals and he’ll question why they’re all green. Jay is the type of person to not give a clear answer and instead just giggle and be like, “Well…y’knoooowwww…”
