After parking his car in a spot that will definitely get him ticketed if he isn’t careful, Taehyung makes his way onto the court he’s played on many times.
It’s a fenced area across from the local recreational center, and he reminisces on the times he would walk with Jimin from one to the other, backpacks slung over their shoulders and caps on backwards.
As he unlocks the metal partition to step onto concrete, he sees that Jimin’s basketball demeanor hasn’t changed since then - serious but still leaving room to get under peoples’ skin with a smile or two. A menace, really. It’s sure to get him decked one day.
But when Taehyung turns to head to the bleachers, he sees a sight that’s much more interesting than his friend’s mischievous tactics.
You. Yoongi. Both looking like you shared an inside joke you’ve had for years.
That’s new.
He watches as Yoongi aims a wide grin to the court, knowing that absolutely nothing happened in the game to make him react that way. And while his expression can be chalked up to his regular behavior, yours is much more intriguing, your face lighting up incredibly bright above your companion’s head.
Then, in almost slow motion, your features go from perked up to pensive.
Adorable.
“Hey!” he calls out as he’s almost to the metal steps. Both of you turn to face him pretty fast, which he finds cute, too.
Yoongi slowly sits up from his laid back position, instead leaning on his palms.
Taehyung’s surprised he was sitting like that in the first place. But, judging from what you’re wearing and the way you stand out because of it, he quickly assumes it’s got something to do with that.
How did your brother not send you off? Why is Yoongi playing cockblocker? He looks entirely lost in thought now.
Meanwhile, your voice is chipper. “Hey, Tae! Took you awhile.”
The hell? Of course it took him awhile? He expected to just meet you at the theatre, so he figured he would be able to get a good nap in. But no. Of course not. Someone just had to be trouble and shift everyone’s plans.
Hmm.
“I’m sorry. I was told to make a detour before even getting up! What’s up, Yoong.”
You groan before launching into blame deferring, to which Yoongi quickly excuses himself. But when you fire back a quick insult, he reacts immediately by turning around.
Taehyung can’t see Yoongi’s face, but he can see yours. And from the looks of things, something is definitely up between the both of you.
Those eyes tell him enough.
“Well, if you’re ready, we can go.”
You respond way too quick for someone that was just flirting, but whatever. It’s best to not be this damn obvious when your brother is right over there. Granted, he’s focused on the game and being a little rough, but there’s still a chance of him looking over.
“Bye, Yoongi.”
“See ya.”
It’s brief, but Taehyung catches it anyway. Because he always does.
Yoongi just devoured you with his eyes.
In public.
With him within running distance.
Fuck, you’re both in deep. Whatever’s going on is nothing small, and for you to be so obvious about your own actions shows where your mental is. You always overthink things through, so why are you being so clueless right now?
After all this time, you’re so cute.
Taehyung hums without you knowing. This may get interesting real fast if the both of you aren’t careful.
When you wave to your brother and Jimin during a small break in the game, he waves alongside you before flipping the latter off. The shit grin he gets in return only makes him shake his head.
It had to be because of you. There’s no way Jimin would’ve told you to make him come get you if you were in anything casual or modest. After all, almost all the eyes on the court that aren’t focused on the ball are on you.
Damn the both of you for ruining his rest time.
But a few seconds later, when he follows your gaze to the bleachers, he forgives you. Because he finds himself highly entertained before even getting to the theatre.
After all, he hasn’t seen that expression on Yoongi’s face in a long, long time.
