“ “King,” croaked the raven. The bird flapped across the solar to land on Mormont’s shoulder. “King,” it said again, strutting back and forth.
“He likes that word,” Jon said, smiling.
“An easy word to say. An easy word to like.”
“King,” the bird said again.
“I think he means for you to have a crown, my lord.”
“The realm has three kings already, and that’s two too many for my liking.” Mormont stroked the raven under the beak with a finger, but all the while his eyes never left Jon Snow. “

“Bear Island is beautiful, but remote. Imagine old gnarled oaks and tall pines, flowering thornbushes, grey stones bearded with moss, little creeks running icy down steep hillsides. The hall of the Mormonts is built of huge logs and surrounded by an earthen palisade. Aside from a few crofters, my people live along the coasts and fish the seas. The island lies far to the north, and our winters are more terrible than you can imagine”
since everybody’s throwing in their pick for the dragon riders i’d like to officially say that my top picks for the 3 heads of the dragon are Shaggydog, Mormont’s raven and Victarion Greyjoys weird claw hand
germ not giving the mormont women giant bears to ride around on is honestly sexist and misogynistic
im filled with the uncontrollable need to make up headcanons about Jorelle, Lyanna and Lyra Mormont despite the fact that beyond brief mentions they have never appeared in canon yet hrrrrrrgn:
- Jorelle is extremely close to Alysane, and in return to calling her “Jory” she calls her “Alys”
- Both Jorelle and Lyanna take more after their mother (and Alysane) in the sense that they are both short and chunky. Lyra is also very broad, but is tall like Dacey
- Before his death, Lyra and Jeor would send each other letters. Seeing as they are both Mormonts though, they usually just traded witty insults and Lyra would sometimes complain about her mother (something Jeor could sympathize with)
- Lyra has really wanted to become a sailor and sail all around Westeros to explore Essos ever since she found some of the exotic presents left behind by Lynesse
- Lyanna is absolutely untamable and a feral child to everyone aside from her mother
- Jorelle shares a strong bond with her mother, and looks up to her. Aside from Dacey she’s probably the one closest to Maege
- All five daughters were super close (can you imagine? braiding each others hair in front of the fire and training together daily -- the big girls teaching their younger sisters how to fight?)
- Dacey’s death was shattering to all of them (Lyanna refused to even believe it was true when news reached Bear Island. She refused to believe that her sister was dead)
- The rumor about Mormont women being skinchangers is ABSOLUTELY 100% TRUE
His breathing was very shallow now, his voice a whisper. “Tell my son. Jorah. Tell him, take the black. My wish. Dying wish.” “Wish?” The raven cocked its head, beady black eyes shining.” Corn? the bird asked. “No corn,” said Mormont feebly. “Tell Jorah. Forgive him. My son. Please. Go.”
