Y’know what’s really odd is that when people talk about the problematic stuff in the Harry Potter books they don’t talk about the transphobia even tho that’s what JKR is second most known for

And then there’s that flashback scene where Voldemort applies for DADA job and Dumbledore refuses to call him by his preferred name as a power play and then proceeds to pull out every transphobe’s excuses. Like ‘I’m too old’ and ‘I’m afraid you’ll always be Tom to me’ and so on. The scene felt so much like a transphobe deadnaming someone and then pretending it somehow wasn’t bc of transphobia that I legitimately had to pause the audiobook bc it gave me so much dysphoria

Dear "allies" who are still into Harry Potter:

stop prioritizing your nostalgia over trans lives.

it's really disappointing how people's critique of jkr starts and ends with her transphobia, and they completely ignore her blatant antisemitism, racism, homophobia, slavery apologism, sympathy for the wizard nazis, (the wizard nazi incel) snape's redemption, the villain of fantastic beasts trying to stop the holocaust, and the new game literally being a rehash of the blood libel myth.

I've rarely seen a more validating sentence in my entire life.

I kinda half addressed it in my last post but I feel as I run a page that is predominantly Harry Potter related that it’s long overdue I make a post about this. But jkr is a bigot there’s no other word for it. She’s been actively promoting against trans rights for years, just this month she made a post that was calling multiple beautiful trans women men and challenged Scotland police to arrest her after they released a new anti discrimination act. She weaponises feminism in her transphobic arguments and she’s actively funding anti trans campaigns. And not only that she’s also anti-Semitic and doesn’t believe the Holocaust happened, even though her stories take obvious inspiration from the real life tragedy.

At the end of the day no one is telling you that you can’t enjoy her work, we are however asking that you properly educate yourself on what she’s done and find more ethical ways to enjoy her work that doesn’t directly put money in her pocket (buying it second hand is always a good one!!) enjoy her work but don’t be ignorant to the flaws in both it and her as a person.

This is just another thing that makes me question why they died the way they did.

Them dying on an order mission would’ve been more realistic. There were just too many plot holes in them dying in Godric’s Hollow.

Guys this post is not that serious I just mean that everything about what happened that night and the explanation for all of it felt like a stretch and kinda vague to me 😭

Even with the stuff about James not having a choice. Like yeah Voldemort didn’t verbally give him the option to back off but James still made the choice to try and hold him off.

Also James was a Pureblood and Voldemort made it known that he would spare them if they didn’t fight him because his whole thing was blood purity.

So like the “Lily was given a choice” still feels so vague to me.

Also Voldemort making the promise to Snape feels weird. Snape asked him not to kill Lily but Voldemort said that he wouldn’t as long as she didn’t get in his way. And Lily did get in his way of killing Harry so he didn’t break that promise by killing her.

Yeah he probably could’ve just knocked her out or something but he still didn’t break any promises.

And the whole reason Snape joined Dumbledore before the end of the first war is because he didn’t think Lily would just let Voldemort kill her son. He didn’t make an unbreakable vow or anything so Snape knew that Voldemort would probably kill Lily.
