I just finished the Justice Lords episodes of Justice League: The Animated Series and,,,,, holy hell,,, they are so much darker than I remember.

everyone with Superman’s heat vision. Like, melted their frontal lobes and their brains dripped out of their heads.

i dont really have superbat street cred, but!! i read this series and it deserves way more attention.

it's angsty as fuck--i would go as far to say it's slow burn psychological horror (but scouts honor it's not graphic, im a coward and i'm fucking obsessed). the author executes it so perfectly. it's a slow, delicious walk into hell. the characterizations are so them, and the writing is on a level that i wish it were a movie.

this fic features dark!superman but with a still fiercely protective Clark Kent. Bruce is sooo deeply in love, and he carries burden in a way that is so Batman.

i dont want to give too much away, because you need the authentic experience, but i'll give a little just to bait you... Bruce gets a glimpse of the future where the Justice League is gone, replaced by the Justice Lords at Lord Superman's command--then the future happens. it's Bruce centric, and a slow melting into understanding how things came to be.

finally, fair warning: it's a fucking Bruce whump--straight pain. but if that doesn't deter you, sick your teeth into this thick ass plot.

Lord Batman deserved better and I'm not sorry for saying that
