A/N: I’m not sure if I did the conversion right for US dollars to ryo, but hopefully it’s close! Honestly, I’m tempted to turn this into a fic because I love Kakashi and I love this idea and I think Kakashi and a civilian would work well together in a relationship.

The little bell over the door chimed as a customer wandered in. You peaked around from behind a bookshelf, smiling warmly at the teenage girl as she blinked owlishly at your crammed shelves and various decorations.

“Hello, welcome to the Book Nook! Let me know if you need any help,” you said. The girl smiled, nodded, and disappeared to browse the massive collection.

Your store was small, but you had made great use of the space, cramming as many books as you possibly could into the shelves. You liked the feeling of it being a little claustrophobic. It was less intimidating than one of the larger bookstores across the village which seemed to swallow you whole as you walked in.

You wandered around the store, a pile of new arrivals in hand. This was your favorite thing to do, wander the store and take a look at your stock while you put away the newest books. The bell chimed again as you reached your least favorite section—the porn. You became aware of someone standing very near you, and eyes boring into the back of your head. You turned, immediately changing your expression to a friendlier one. Behind you stood a shinobi with silver hair that seemed to defy gravity and his headband pulled over his left eye.

You would recognize Kakashi of the Sharingan anywhere.

You were a civilian, but that didn’t mean you were unfamiliar with the more famous shinobi. You sold bingo books, and sometimes when you were bored you’d leaf through the pages. You always seemed to find yourself on Kakashi’s page. He was quite the accomplished shinobi, and there was an air of mystery about him thanks to his mask.

“Can I help you with something?” you asked politely.

“Is that the newest Icha Icha you’re holding?”

You sighed inwardly. Of course he reads this stuff, you thought, handing the book over with a smile. “As a matter of fact, it is. It’s one hundred and seventy ryo.”

Kakashi’s eye widened. “Not a bad price for an Icha Icha book.”

You smiled. “I try not to price things too high. I know you shinobi can be cheap about certain things.” You mentally cursed yourself for saying just a little too much. Gods, I hope I didn’t offend him, you thought.

To your surprise—and relief—he chuckled, seemingly unoffended. “Ah, well, you’re not wrong.” His eye sought out the shelf behind you, and he gave it an appraising once-over.

“This is your store?” he asked.

You nodded proudly. “Yup! I’m guessing this is your first time here?” You liked to think you remembered the customers that came in, especially shinobi, and you’d have known if Kakashi Hatake shopped at your store. But you didn’t want the conversation to end. You got a peaceful vibe from Kakashi, and he was easy to talk to—even with your slip-ups.

“Yes, but I wish I’d found your store sooner. It’s much closer to my apartment than the other two that sell Icha Icha.”

You smiled. “I have a very large collection of books here beyond…” you gestured behind you “…these, if you’d like to take a look around.”

“Maybe some other time,” Kakashi said. Behind his mask, he smiled. You felt a blush forming on your cheeks. Even with the mask covering his face, he oozed attractiveness. A lot of your civilian friends swooned over shinobi, but never as intensely as they swooned over Kakashi Hatake. You liked to think you didn’t swoon, but in that moment, you were more than happy to.

“Hey, sorry I’m a bit late,” you said as you took your next across from Kakashi at the izakaya. You placed a hand on his shoulder as you sat and he looked up at you. You could see him smile beneath his face mask.

“What are you reading?” You asked. Kakashi answered by raising an eyebrow as he sipped his drink. “You have a book tucked beneath your arm,” you observed. “Were you reading while you waited for me?”

“Oh, it’s nothing,” Kakashi said. The smile that graced his face was nervous. “Nothing I haven’t read a thousand times before.”

You grinned. “A thousand times before? Can I see?”

Kakashi panicked internally but knew it would make it worse as he stopped you from reaching across your table for two. He was grateful that you were in your usual, private corner when you flipped open to wear the book was dog-earred.

“Oh, and here I was thinking you were joking around when you carried this with you everywhere,” you teased. “Ah, but you’re at my favorite part.”

Kakashi thought he was going to choke on his drink. “You have a favorite part?” He leaned forward. “You’ve read those?”

“Oh, yeah,” you said. “The next scene is so romantic, don’t you think? When he takes her to the tower and they’re looking at the stars... it’s so dreamy.”

Kakashi’s face turned red. You left out, of course, that they were looking at the stars as the main character fucked his heroine over a desk in a high tower.

You handed him his book back. It promptly went in his lap.

Kakashi could feel his face heating up and was grateful for the dim lighting in the bar. You still noticed his blush, but didn’t say anything. You just kept a mental note of that.

As you wrapped up your catching up and bar snacks, Kakashi said, “I know I normally walk you home, but I have to swing by the office. I left some things behind. Do you want to come with me before I walk you home?”

“Yeah, it’s a nice night anyway,” you said with a smile.

His mask was back on once you left the izakaya, and he was oddly quiet the whole way. The streets were pretty quiet as it was getting fairly late, but between your skills as a shinobi and Kakashi being the hokage, you didn’t feel anything other than safe despite the silence.

Once you got to his office, Kakashi closed and locked the door behind him. He pulled his mask down; that was odd, you thought. While you had seen his face plenty of times before whenever you’d meet at the izakaya weekly to catch up, he usually still opted to wear it when he wasn’t eating or drinking.

“I... don’t have anything I need from here, actually,” Kakashi confessed. You rose a brow at him and then, once you realized the room you were in, it dawned on you.

Kakashi saw you figuring it out on your face and he was certain you’d be mad, but you just gaped at him jokingly and said, “Kakashi! Trying to get all smooth with me, now, are you?”

Kakashi laughed nervously. “You said you thought that part was romantic. You even called it your favorite!”

You laughed and grabbed a hold of his hand. You lead him towards his desk where you had a better view out the window if you leaned against the back of it. You could see the whole village from here, with a beautiful view of the stars.

“It is lovely up here, though,” you said. You leaned your head against his arm. Kakashi smiled down at you. “Your attempt at being smooth worked.”

“If I had known you liked Icha Icha, I’d have brought you up here sooner,” Kakashi said.

“There’s a lot more to than scene than the stargazing that I like, but this is nice too,” you admitted.

Kakashi laughed. “Whoa! You don’t get to just say something like that and then drop it like it’s nothing.”

You pushed some of your hair back. “Don’t pretend like you don’t know what I’m getting at, Hatake.”

“Excuse you,” he replied with a fake gasp of offense at your attitude, “that’s Hokage to you.”

It was your turn to laugh. You decided to lay your response on thick. “Alright then, Hokage-sama.”

Yamato and Naruto head back towards the waterfall and Kakashi walks to the edge of the field with you. He grabs your arm and pulls you into him to kiss you deeply.

“D-Did you...spend the night at Kakashi-sensei’s house?!” He exclaims a little quieter than before. The other two have recovered from their shocked state and watched the interaction with much interest. Kakashi lets out a sigh and walks further into the kitchen. He opens the fridge and takes out some eggs. 

You smile at the awaiting kids in front of you. “Yes, I’ve been spending the night here for the last four years.” If you thought his eyes and mouth couldn’t widen more, you were wrong. Naruto was going to open his mouth to say something else but Sakura wraps an arm around his neck and holds him there. She smiles politely at you. 

“I’m sorry Y/N sensei. We were just worried about Kakashi-Sensei. He was running later than usual so we just wanted to check that everything was okay.”

You smile again and wave them off. “No worries,” you make your way to the kitchen to help your husband prepare breakfast, “I’m surprised it took you this long to find out. He’s always talking about how you three impress him.” You motion for them to come over and hand them some plates.

 Kakashi serves some eggs and rice to each plate. Your husband looks over at you, mildly embarrassed from what you just told them. You grab two plates, one for you and the other for Kakashi before walking up to him to give him an apologetic kiss on the cheek. He serves the food on both your plates and you go to set it down at the table next to his students. 

“I can’t believe it took us this long to find out either. But then again, we still haven’t seen his face.” Sasuke comments. Kakashi brings some coffee and orange juice to the table before joining everyone. It was silent for a minute, everyone enjoying the delicious meal. Your eyes travel over to the kitchen clock to check the time. 

“I have to get going. If I don’t leave now, we’re going to have three more genin showing up here.” You stand, leaning down to kiss Kakashi's cheek. 

“It was nice having you three here. I’ll see you guys later!” You call over your shoulder to go get ready. You let out a laugh when you hear Kakashi tell his genin “your first training exercise today is to wash the dishes” followed with a whole bunch of groaning.
