reminder that i own the Literal Dumbest cat
Kida, my sweet Burmese girl, is pregnant.
We've been watching Kida closely as she's looking very pregnant now (although you probably can't tell from the picture-- she is normally a very tiny cat) and we're anticipating her milk coming in any day now and then kittens soon after. Today I set up my old Ferret Nation cage as a sort of "safe space" for her to relax and start nesting in, and a place where we can keep her when no one's home and know she won't start giving birth under a bed or something. This is our first time doing it this way so fingers crossed it goes better than last time when she was squirting birthing fluids all over my six-year-old's bed. I have a good feeling about it-- we have the towel over her "nest" to give her privacy, but I can easily access it from the door if she goes into labor and needs help.
Kida had been my pal while I've been sick. Apparently when you're pregnant all you want to do is lounge. It's been nice because I've been able to keep an eye on her. Her milk came in yesterday, and today the little kitkats seem especially active. I can feel them moving, and she might even be having contractions, although he water hasn't broken yet. Shouldn't be long now!

Interestingly... no.
I was waiting until everything is resolved to post on this, but I’m not sure how long that will be.
We’re not entirely sure what’s going on with her, but the important thing is that she seems healthy and happy. She gave birth to a second stillborn about 6hrs after the first. At that point, there was certainly still another kitten in her, and I could feel it moving. However, that was on Thursday, and she still hasn’t had the last kitten.
I spoke with my friend, her breeder, who has been doing this for 20+ years. He said this isn’t common, but it’s possible, because cats have two uterine horns, and the last kitten can be born up to a week later. So I guess we’ll see what happens.
Sweet Kida is getting spayed today and I was reminiscing on her kittenhood.

Also, I love when people remember that Atlantis exists. It was definitely one of my favorite movies growing up (as were its sequels). I think I still have my Barbie Kida with the light up crystal necklace somewhere...
