whats up with the 3 slits and feathers on these things, also whats that opening thing you talked about?

the 3 slits are the way the ostomesa respire, i call them pleural lungs they are a form of lungs that the terrestrial ostomesa derived from aquatic ostomesa gills, they inhale hydrogen and exhale diborane

the feather things are their kalriech, which are how they smell and hear, they smell with small olfactory nerve that extends to the end of every thin filament, the structure as a whole is used to hear, with the filaments being hypersensitive, klariech is closer to the fleshy extensions of telluric frog fish than the fur like filaments that cover the rest of their body called archeina

and the glosspharyncal opening is the closable end of their tongue like proboscis

so... what do "fish" or whatever look like if they all have fur and weird feather ears???????????

well it depends on their niche, if they need to be streamlined and fast, then the ichthyongiu [fish like organisms] will have a single scale where the klariech used to be, being repressed similar to the scutes on telluric birds, and something similar with the archeina being repressed into scales, though if it isn't directly necessary and potentially beneficial they will have it, some even making quills for defense

fun fact about the ◗ta, if they smell something they like their klariech will twitch a lot, like a telluric mammals ears twitching to help hear the world, they can't control it and it is very funny for cross species couples like ◖kru and ma-ch, [which most art i will attempt for them will be entirely noncanonical since they can't physically interact at all and if they are in the same place one of them will have to wear a suit to protect them] which consists of the two of them being completely oblivious to the others uncontrollable signs of infatuation with the other
