An artist you're happy you discovered?

I'm really glad I discovered Laura Jane Grace/Against Me!

Laura, who fronts the punk band Against Me, is a trans woman and listening to their album Transgender Dysphoria Blues has given me a whole new understanding of what it's like to be trans. I especially love the song True Trans Soul Rebel because not only is it a JAM, but because Laura talks about trans issues in a way that we can all relate to. I hold that song very close to my heart, even though I'm cis, because she brings in emotions that everyone feels. I find comfort in that song especially in its discussion of loneliness.

I wish more cis people would listen to Against Me because Laura is just so relatable and I believe trans issues would become a lot more REAL and HUMAN to so many cis people if they saw that these very true feelings bring us together rather than draw us apart.

Also, Laura Jane Grace's album Stay Alive has genuinely become one of my favourite albums ever. The way she talks about depression and addiction is so painfully true and it circles between not only "rock bottom," but also the purgatory of living with mental illness from a day to day basis. I wish more artists would talk about that too.

And their music straight up slaps. I love punk rock and Against Me is a great punk band all around.
