Leap Year Magic

(this post inspired by the lovely @upthewitchypunx)

Leap Day is a day that emerges every four years of the Gregorian calendar; it rises out of the tides of time for one very special moment, then submerges beneath the surface and isn’t seen again for another four years. For witches, this can present a very unique opportunity to do some Leap Day magic. Some ideas include:

- Long-term goals spellwork. If you have a list of some long-term goals, and there’s one you see happening in the next four years, set off a controlled release spell that sets that plan in motion! Use this year’s February 29th to start a spell, and set an intention to see your spell come to fruition by the next February 29th. - Leap Day curses. If you’ve really got a grudge against someone, and they deserve a wallop of a curse, February 29th could be the best day to put it in place. A curse that’s not set to release until another February 29th comes to pass can be a very powerful thing indeed (but may take a lot of energy to cast as a result, so practice self-care along the way!). - Spirit and fae communication or spellwork. In myths and stories, there was often a certain time of year where the world of the fae and spirits was more accessible to us. That same liminal quality that many of us associate with Samhain or Hallowe'en can also be tapped on Leap Day. Much like fairy markets and spirit realms, it’s a day that pops into our existence and then disappears for four years as though it had never been. Spellwork involving the Fair Folk or any other spirits could well take advantage of this day that has a very in-between quality. - Realignment spells. Leap Day is a day we arbitrarily add into the calendar in order to help realign our calendar system with the astronomical equinoxes and solstices, as the astronomical year is actually just a bit longer than what our 365-day calendar will allow. Use this day of correction and realignment to add that same energy to a spell of your own, helping you get things back in sync. - Magical burials and banishments. Have something you want to get rid of, and you really want to see it gone this time? Give it over to some Leap Day spellwork. You can banish something from your life on February 29th, and it will be so gone, not even the day itself will resurface for years.

Do you have any ideas about how you can use Leap Day in your witchcraft? Reblog and add your thoughts! I’d love to add more items to this post and reblog it with your suggestions (credited, of course) each time a Leap Day approaches.
