Amidst all this talk about what kind of/"level" of abusive Gabe is in the show compared to the book, I’m surprised I haven’t seen anyone mention the exchange where Percy says he got kicked out for assaulting a girl, and Gabe says “Okay” in an almost impressed and approving tone, and all he has to say about that is, “but while you’re under my roof, you follow my rules.” And as he says this, the camera cuts to a close up on Percy, who looks confused and somewhat suspicious about Gabe’s reaction to Percy (allegedly) hitting a girl.
They packed a LOT of red flags into that scene, but this one really stood out to me.

you can't make a problem go away just by pretending it doesn't exist. you have to call it out.
misfits and magic calls out that book series in every way possible, from the general discrimination to the lack of diversity to the specific idea that kids are evil from age 11.
should that book series get more publicity? no. but if the bullshit that author does is ignored, it will only fester and become a bigger problem. call out the issue without giving the issue any money. call out the issue in an effective manner. and in this case, call out the issue in a fun way that supports actual queer people.

I hate when you love a character who’s like a kid or a teenager and they so perfectly capture the flaws and struggles of being that age and not understanding everything fully yet or necessarily making the best choices especially when they’re in a very painful or complex situation and they feel so real and human because of it and then you go online and there’s someone who’s like “they’re DUMB and EVIL and SELFISH because of [important moment in their character arc when they messed up and learned from it or broke under pressure or didn’t have the courage to do an incredibly difficult thing or responded realistically to their truly horrifying circumstances]”

I just think whoever decided, when 911 was doing it’s sort of soft reboot in season 2, that buck needed a sister and wrote the character of Maddie deserves the world.
They really looked at this show and said: you know what this show needs? Big Sister Energy. And Jennifer Love Hewitt. And they were right.
Mineaki is such an unfortunate character because if he was hotter and didn't have that unfortunate embarrassed expression, people wouldn't call him a nonce. He's actually a pretty chill character despite being sus and him caring for his students like all the other teachers is turned into something creepy when it's not. AND I ADAMANTLY STAND BY THE FACT THAT HIS ONSEN ALT LOOKS KINDA HOT. IF HE DIDN'T HAVE THAT MAGIC SHELL ICECREAM TOPPING HAIRCUT, HE COULD'VE BEEN FINE AF.

when someone says they love you in a romantic way, does it prick your skin in thousands of needle pokes like the world is an iron maiden? especially when they're supposed to be a friend and you find out they have less than platonic intentions towards you, even if they don't intend to act on their feelings, it suddenly feels unsafe?
