My take on the Reilora (still working on the design but I think they are floofy guys!!)

Im honestly so curious about Reilora. I was thinking they were the “citizens” of the “city” Matt described on ruidus but now that we’ve gotten a glimpse at the actually moon surface because of ludinus and Lilliana and shit and also we have seen them more in action during the solstice I was thinking that might not be the case. I also thought they were like their own beings that could very much be a threat to anyone who went onto ruidius. But it seems like those who are ruidus born or at least the exaltants are able to control the Reilora/bend them to their own will. I think they are more neutral in the whole situation but can be shifted to one side or another depending on who’s controlling them.

But I was ALSO thinking they could perhaps be the kin of predathos or like small parts of it. And in that case they would be on predathos side and again shifted to other perspectives depend on who controls them. Which also makes sense that they could attack others/Ruidus born who are controlling them could lose that control and then they default back to the side of predathos and kill everyone.

These are just some of my theories though :)

Honestly the fact that the other Assembly members are helping Ludinus is a surprise. But it also is kinda expected. He thrives in the viper’s nest, he always has. Even the Vanguard has tenuous relations and I doubt he has any misgivings about how that is. He’s been the head of the Cerberus Assembly for centuries, he knows backstabbing and undermining like the back of his hand. And Ludinus probably loves that shit.

Because truly he can’t handle genuine relationships. Sincere care or compliments. It’s why Jester throws him off so much. Because her smiles are real. Because her compliments are genuine and not backhanded.

The fake smiles and promises, the underhanded slights and backstabs is the world Ludinus moves like water through. He plays the political game so very well. Delilah, the charismatic witch, herself said it. Everyone knows Ludinus is a snake but they all fall for his traps anyway. But people like Jester throw him off because it breaks his world view. It breaks the idea that the world is dog eat dog all the time and you have to play this game to get yours. He rejects these genuine connections, romantic and platonic because “it’s beneath him”, but truly also because he can’t fathom the idea of those things meaning something real, having worth in a world in which those are all tools to manipulate and gain something from you, distractions from a larger goal.

The conversation he had with Essek is reframed in this light. It is not just that he thinks Essek gaining friendship is a distraction, makes him weak. It’s that he cannot see how a wizard similar to him can believe in such things. “Maybe you should try friends” was a sick burn but also there is this notion that Ludinus doesn’t get that. He doesn’t believe that is possible. True friendship isn’t something good or meaningful, it’s supposed to be a tool. In his mind Essek should have used the M9 to get further ahead.

Oh yes I do believe he does care for Liliana in some way. But it is also in the way that he needs her for his plans. Everything he does is framed around his goals, his needs. Because he cannot see relationships as anything but transactional. Subconsciously perhaps he desires deeper connections, but he will consciously bar himself from committing to such a thing because he has no faith in such a thing.

So yeah he is going to surround himself with people that hate him, people that he knows will backstab him at some point. Because he gets that. That’s familiar to him. He can deal with hatred and jealousy, but he can’t deal with genuineness.

I simply cannot emphasize enough how much I hate that Ludinus baited vax with Keyleth. like sir you have no fucking idea what you just did—I will personally find you and rip you to shreds—I will SUNDER you Ludinus Da’leth for this emotional damage

theory-- SPOLIERS

Something that bears examination in my opinion is the traltionshop between the quintessence array (the siphon used suck powers) and the Raven Queen.

• we know that the RQ somehow managed to replace the previous god of death (essentially taking the power of another and making it her own) • Ludinus (and now Bells Hells) uses the quintessence array to take the power of another and make it their own • Bells hells' version seems to lose power in the transference, ex: they got 1 spell from the Willmaster, not all of her slots • Bells Hells version is a prototype, so obvious Ludinus's current is more powerful; hes put thought into making better and better versions (Related?: Extracting the power from the beacon into the dunamancy juice that Milo put in Ashton and Otohan uses in her backpack) • Ludinus is obsessed with the RQ as proved by using Vaxildan and the "what's her name...what's her name" notes found in Molaesymyr

So, perhaps, Ludinus is trying to recreate the siphon used by the RQ to replace the original death god so he can, a la RQ, replace Predathos or MAYBE also the Luxon???

Thinking again about how Ludinus tried to pass the blame for Orym's family's deaths entirely on to Otahan, as if the Hells, and even more so, we, haven't seen over and over how he elevates to power and enables people who do truly awful things, at just enough remove to keep his hands "clean".

People like Delilah Briarwood, Trent Ikithon, Otahan Thull, and so many more. King Dwendal, probably.

We know he's willing to get his own hands dirty more privately. I think this pattern is more of a power play, but not sure.
