I just thought of possibly the cutest/coolest au idea for Fmab: after their mom died, instead of Ed and Al being raised by Granny, the military move them all the way up north to Fort Briggs where they are trained and raised by the Major General Armstrong herself. She takes them under her wing and makes them into the strongest Briggs soldiers anyone has seen yet, and just maybe getting attached to them along the way, though you’d only ever hear her speak of them proudly to those closest to her.
