The real issue, imo, is that the (AMERICAN) school system teaches about very boring fucking books. Take the absolute fucking trash fire I was forced to read, The Pearl.

IT IS. BORING. I don't like it.

Yet the man wrote Of Mice and Men. A novella that kept me gripped for the whole thing at the age of 14 when I got it in class. Thankfully I had a teacher who lent me a copy to read at home.

The Pearl could have been thrown out and the space in my curriculum could have been filled by something more modern or maybe, god forbid, a black author.

There are so many god damn books that are sixth-grade level that you can include.
