// malevolent part 43 spoilers

I’ve been thinking how John is visible through the mask… but it seems even with the mask, some characters still can’t see him?

Daniel might have just. Not been looking, but I feel like it’d be hard to miss an entire person just appearing behind Arthur. The witch could see him, and he could see himself… seems even with the mask, only those linked to the supernatural can see him.

I’m also curious if the masks from episode 40 were the same. I would assume they would be, but everyone was surprised by KiY jumping out of Larson and Noel would have absolutely said something if he could see John through the mask, so most likely not.

I wonder if that was arranged on purpose… I was under the impression that KiY pulled some strings to get that weird shell creature on the grand vizier. And in an effort to hide that, from cult members, they swapped the masks around. Or maybe only John can see the shell creature regardless…

I’m reading this back and realising I’m contradicting myself. Eh it’s just a ramble

When I looked it up I got Vic Tennetta from The Hudsucker Proxy. He appears for a brief scene at the start, singing a song in a bar.

In the scene he sings Memories are made of this by Dean Martin. Idk what the song is really about but the first two lines would fit for John and Arthur.

“Sweet, sweet memories you’ve gave me / You can’t beat the memories you gave me.”

The creators (the Coen brothers) also stated that they took inspiration from Frank Capra films, including, but not limited to “Meet John Doe”, which I think is a fun detail.

It could just be a nod to the crooner genre, or more idk. This idea of very roundabout but it’s fun to research none the less.

wait who's Vic Tenetta ? is it important that he's named ? or is it just some guy ???

Wait guys. If like, the King Arthur parallels in malevolent s5 are intentional, does that mean that hypothetically, the black stone could be the same as the sword in the stone? Or maybe the dagger Kayne gave him is more analogous to Excalibur and the Black Stone is the Holy Grail.

I mean, it is a quest given by a god, sooo

New Theory!!!

John knew who the Lady that is Scratch.

New Theory!!!
New Theory!!!
New Theory!!!
New Theory!!!

First of all, he obviously recognizes her. It's on the tip of his tongue. Like meeting a long lost colleague, and barely remembering they existed. He even asks the painting who she is!! He also keeps on making statements like "it was..." Or "Though she..." Like he's right on the cusp of remembering someone.

Second, you just don't act this way with a stranger. A stranger even a scary one like this doesn't immediately disorient you, and make you focus on her. Even when forgetting about the painting he knows she's important. Even when the importance of the painting isn't in his mind.

Third, John describes her as lovely, in a strange endearing way. Like fantasizing, or recalling a pleasant memory. His descriptions seem loving as well.

Conclusion

I think she was someone of great importance to the KiY, maybe even a relative. Someone that even the KiY would be fond of. And John who only has a vague but terrifying silhouette of his time as king forgot about, but was immediately pulled back into when seeing her. I was thinking a mom or sister, but idk enough about Lovecraft to know.
