i had the opportunity to draw... in an atelier... and i had like... one whole night. and this was all i produced before falling asleep in a chair... oh well. i still like it a lot, except for the right bottom one on the first picture, messed that one up a little by adding an extra color (pure blue) : (

I’ve never fallen in love with a human the way I’ve fallen in love with halo armor and mandalorian armor and katarn class clone commando armor

they make me happy in a way I cannot explain it was love at first sight boba fett in empire strikes back for mandalorian, master chief in a cosplay compilation for halo, and the cover of republic commando hard contact for katarn class commando armor.

coming back to this post to say, that one hand plate shape, usually with a triangle on it, bulky gauntlets with cool gadgets, belt pouches, disappointing lack of arm protection. That one vent style in the back of a helmet. Those two short parallel lines on the top right of a chestplate with lights in them. Sabine style ear caps or fett/din style ear caps. Knives/blades with weird parallelogram cutouts, thigh or hip plates. Shin armor with three sections. Cheek indents on helmets. Fingerless gloves or gloves with two colored fingers. Flack vest that would be a longish crop top. Belt sits on hips. Random loops to hold ammo. Stuff hanging off belt. Texture sew into flightsuits with reinforcement patches on legs and exposed arm. More pouches.

Thinking about how different individual mandalorians can be from eachother while still so clearly being mandalorian. I see this in fan made designs especially, mando cosplayers my beloved, it gives a great sense of camaraderie, but i see it in cannon media as well. For example, Paz Visla and Ursa Wren have massivly different armor designs, and yet they are both still so recognizable as mandalorian.

Ursa has a more curved visor shape, no beskar'ta, very few sharp angles to her armor, a loincloth but no kama, and generally lighter armor.

And then there's paz. most of his body is covered by his armor, and it is very bulky. his armor is mostly sharp angles, and he has a beskar'ta and standard t-shapeed visor. the only extra fabric besides his flightsuit and flack vest are things like his belt/belt pouches.

Both of them have a single peice for the top part of their chestplate, which is at odds with other mandalorians' three peice chestplates like boba fett has.

Not every mandalorian is human, not every mandalorian has a beskar'ta, not every mandalorian has a kama.

There are so many variables and yet you look at two mandalorians side by side and go, yep, there are two mandalorians in front of me, i should probably run.

It says a lot about them as a culture, to have such ways for each person to express themselves with their own beskar'gam.

Anyways i think it's cool i like the design freedom i get designing mando armor and i like wearing it to conventions and having armor that is both unique and fits into this group

I love that the deleted Boba Fett vs Cad Bane duel scene from TCW suggests that the helmet dent was from Cad Bane’s shot when they fire at each other. Cad Bane is one of the baddest mfs around and yes, if anyone is going to shoot Boba Fett in the head, it’s him.

saw a delightful post about how the dent in boba fett's helmet probably indicates that his armor isn't 100% beskar, and one of the conclusions the post draws it that din djarin's armor is almost certainly better/more expensive than boba's. i want to say that this is even more the case if we're comparing din to expanded universe boba, whose armor is 100% durasteel. no beskar in that bad boy at all. it's literally the shittiest mando armor money can buy and when boba becomes mand'alor, his mandalorian friends basically corner him and block the door until he lets them swap it out for actual beskar.

no concrete explanation is given for why EU!boba buries his father's armor plates (which presumably contained at least some actual beskar) instead of just using them himself, but my personal headcanon is a combination of:

he doesn't feel worthy of wearing his father's armor

shitty durasteel armor was all he could afford when he was a teenager, which appears to be when he started wearing his trademark durasteel plates

he just likes having armor that shows battle damage. medrit, his armor-smith friend, even teases him about this, saying he can paint scuffs and dents onto his new beskar armor if boba would like.

related to the above: every single dent and scar on his armor is like a little message to the outside world saying, "i lived, bitch," and fett's reluctant to give that up :`D

Suddenly got motivated to design an armor for post-TCW Korkie and decided he and bo-katan also have an extremely antagonist relationship as per family tradition and he swings between telling people she died and acting extremely confused when people say they’re related

ten credits says when din finally paints his armor it'll be purple because he's not like other mandalorians

Finally finished my second helmet. This took like 5 months to finish, largely due to school and sometimes not having the right materials.
