the single worst part of being a fan of the social network is having a fond association when you hear the name mark zuckerberg

I wonder how mark zuckerberg feels about the fact that he revolutionized social media and the general internet landscape, thereby opening the door for people to come online years later and say that the movie about him and his college best friend is totally gay

I need people to stop reminding me that Mark Zuckerberg is a real person and not a fictional character played by Jesse Eisenberg who was in a doomed romantically charged friendship with his best friend and soulmate Eduardo Saverin, another totally fictional character played by Andrew Garfield in the very fictional not at all based on reality movie The Social Network. They are NOT real to me. The real Zuck can zuck on it.

the problem with loving tsn is that it's almost impossible to get other people to get into it. like okay yeah it's about mark zuckerberg but not REALLY. above all else it's a tragic story of love and betrayal but you're not going to know that if you keep laughing at me

1. “YOU BETTER LAWYER UP ASSHOLE!! Because I’m not coming back for 30%, I’m coming back for EVERYTHING!!” This is THE line god.. this is what officially marked (accidental pun lmaoo) the end of wardo and mark’s relationship, it was the obliterating betrayal that wardo received after giving mark EVERYTHING that he ever had, and it wasn’t just about the money to wardo because it was never about the money. It was the way wardo rode subways 14 hours a day to try and find advertisers in order to try and convince mark that they NEEDED something more than just having the site without anything, it was the way that wardo never hesitated to hand mark the money whenever he would ask him to, it was in the way he’d make sure mark would eat after his coding tears & would put his hand on his shoulder when they’d walk back to Kirkland from class— to wardo it was about the way he gave mark his LOVE, his absolute EVERYTHING and he’d never really get anything back in return but it didn’t matter because as long as mark was happy, it was all okay. The way wardo calls mark an asshole inevitably makes mark remember erica and how someone he liked (at one point) left him behind because of the way he acted, the way he didn’t know how to maintain a relationship but he never expected wardo to walk away forever, to leave HIM behind. When they’re in the hallway and mark tells wardo that he’ll eventually get left behind, he wanted wardo to listen to him & realize that he was needed but mark never thought that when wardo signed his shares away, he’d end up leaving mark behind because at the end of the day, the true irony was the way that mark told him he’d get left behind but he ended up with a billion dollar company & 500 million friends but he lost the only one that actually LOVED him, that actually KNEW who he was and knew how to read between the lines of what he was trying to say. When wardo yells this line to him, he’s making it clear that mark lost him forever and that he’d never get him back & he was coming back for everything EXCEPT mark which is why it cuts mark deeper than anything else— and when he calls him an asshole this time, (because before, on the day thefacebook went live and wardo wrote ‘E.S. 9, you asshole!” wardo was using it in an affectionate way) he actually means it and this time he’s the one who throws the first punch instead of always being the one who receives it from the one he always loved the most.

2. “I want- I want- I need you out here, please don’t tell him I said that”; the way mark just exhibits his vulnerability to wardo this time in the hallway is just heartbreaking because it’s simply so IRONIC how when mark finally decides to break down his walls and let wardo in, wardo just chooses not to listen to him because he’s so hung up on “you’re going to get left behind” to pay attention to the way mark desperately NEEDS him to come out to california.. wardo didn’t want to get left behind, he just wanted to get mark’s attention and he would rather throw the first punch instead of having to completely lose mark but while he was freezing the account he didn’t realize that he was just going to finish breaking them & that’s the true tragedy of their relationship.

3. “You’re going to go through life thinking that girls don’t like you because you’re a nerd. And I want you to know from the bottom of my heart that that won’t be true. It’ll be because you’re an asshole”; okay apart from the fact that this line was undeniably ICONIC, it literally foreshadows the way things play out for mark throughout the entirety of the film which is why I love it so much. The way erica sees through mark in such a way that she becomes the first person to have the guts to call him an asshole without hesitating or thinking about how he might feel or if he’s hurting him just shows how mark is always left behind by the people he loves solely because he doesn’t know HOW to have a relationship. Even though we only got a snippet of the dynamic erica & mark had, it’s so clear that mark always has to rub his intelligence in people’s faces and when he just says “I’m trying right now” with such arrogance and irritation just emphasizes the way he has to TRY at having relationships plus the way he mentioned eduardo in the conversation shows that he really did care for eduardo and he LOVED him despite what his actions had to say, but he just didn’t know how to properly love a person, he was so certain that wardo was always going to be there for him, because mark knew that wardo would do anything for him which is exactly why he screwed him out of the company. Erica calling him an asshole (when erica up to a certain degree, actually liked mark) just foreshadows how wardo was eventually going to leave mark behind too because mark always preferred hurting than being hurt & he chose hurting wardo instead of getting his feelings through to him.

4. “I was your only friend, you had one friend”; it’s the way that wardo KNOWS that mark had more friends (even if it was only dustin & chris, they still were mark’s friends) but wardo was aware of the fact that he was mark’s BEST FRIEND, that he would do anything at all for mark, mark just needed to ask him & he wouldn’t hesitate to do so— wardo gave mark the starting money for thefacebook, wardo put the 18,000 dollars in for mark, wardo was there when thefacebook went live yet mark didn’t hesitate at all to screw him out of the company without thinking about the way he would feel because wardo wasn’t listening to him. He didn’t hear ‘I need you’ because he was too focused on the way mark was immersed in his sean-worship to pay attention to wardo’s LOVE for him because wardo was the only one who actually SAW mark instead of just seeing the snarky asshole that everyone else saw or the robot that mark tried to portray. But mark chose to hang onto facebook because after all, wardo didn’t come out once and with facebook, mark would always come first & he wouldn’t have to feel hurt and through facebook he gained all those 500 million friends, but the true tragedy is in the way he lost the only one that actually MATTERED.

5. “I need you”/“I’m here for you”; this line, it literally defines mark and wardo’s relationship, the way wardo is always so willing to give everything to mark regardless if he was going to be receiving anything in return. Wardo goes rushing to Kirkland after he reads mark’s blog and it doesn’t matter that it’s 2 am or that he could’ve been in the middle of something important because mark was always wardo’s priority. Wardo sees through the way mark is pinching his face in disguised hurt and he sees through mark saying “we’re ranking girls” because he knows that his creation of facesmash was really mark’s way of proving that he was superior to everyone and that he wasn’t hurt by the way everyone just saw him as a emotionless, arrogant person. Wardo wanted to make it clear that mark was see-through to him, that he could be trusted with whatever mark wanted because he wanted to protect him and make sure that he was always okay— and when he tells the lawyers “well mark doesn’t care about the money and he needs to be protected” it’s because wardo knows that mark is a vulnerable person deep down and that he’s constantly defensive and says scathing words because he doesn’t want to be the one who gets hurt first, he’d rather wound than get wounded which is why he ended up screwing wardo over with THEIR company. For wardo, thefacebook was THEIRS (he said it before “this is our thing”) and he always wanted to be there for mark, wanted to be someone mark trusted and relied on, but it only ended up with him giving way too much of himself to mark & getting stabbed in the back by the person he truly loved the most.
