I'm reading "Lion, son of the forest" by Mike brooks, and what I realized is that space marines are best used as these grand theatrical pieces for warrior melodrama.

Obviously it can be hard to write this without it coming off as pretentious and annoying (and even worse, catchphrase-y), but when done well they have a perfect fit within the setting.

It highlights the inhumanity and programming of space marines that they talk and think in these ways. They're overblown warrior personas who don't have any real meaning outside of killing. Seeing this written well is exhilarating.
