17. Cereal is soup

Mikey was in the kitchen, usual breakfast noises clattering throughout the lair as Donnie wandered in from his lab for some coffee, or diesel fuel, as he affectionately called it. 

“Yo! Sup man, good mornin’!”

Mike’s greeting sounded over his shoulder as he kept his attention to the stove, humming along to the music softly playing from his phone on the counter as his hips swayed to the beat. His hand stirred at a spoon, something simmering in a large pot. 

Donnie grunted, offering a sleepy smile to his brother as he poured the brown liquid into his cup, savoring the smell as he blew over the rim and sniffed at the aroma. 

Only then noticing the…..interesting smell coming from the stove. 

Oh no. 

Donnie’s eyes narrowed as he slowly turned to look at the youngest as he danced around the kitchen, grabbing spices from the cupboard above his head as he twirled. 

“Mikey.” The tallest dared not look at the contents of the pot, and continued with a sigh. “What…what are you making for breakfast?”

Mikey smiled, baby blues sparkling with glee. 

“Soup! Want some?”

Donnie rubbed at his snout with another sigh, closing his eyes as his hand pushed up his glasses on his mask. 

“....what.”

Mikey turned back to the tomato based broth on the stove, reaching for a can of beans nearby. “Yeah man, it’s basically cereal.” He dumped the contents into the pot with a splash, stirring as he discarded the empty container on the counter with a shrug in Donnie’s direction. “Just savory.”

Donatello snorted and took a sip of coffee, watching his brother over the rim of his mug with an amused look in his face. 

“So…in your mind…cereal is soup.” 

Mikey nodded as he slid some leftover cooked chicken into the pot from a cutting board, eyes focused on his task. “Yep.”

“And therefore it’s acceptable to eat soup for breakfast.” 

“You got it.”

“Because it’s savory cereal.”

Mikey turned to give his brother an exasperated sigh. “What’s so hard to get, man? It has like all the main food groups and shit!”

Donnie chuckled over the rim of his mug. 

“I’m just trying to understand your thought process before Leo kills you for attempting to make him eat soup for breakfast.” 

(personally, I would eat soup for breakfast lol but I know people who think that it's crazy)
