It might just be the 98 bias speaking but i really do feel like michael gruber munkustrap + john partridge tugger sounded the best together in old deuteronomy. I've listened to plenty of performances of Cats at this point, & there's always performers out there who I think did as well as (or better than!) their 98 cast equivalent but Man. I dont think I've ever heard an old deut duo that topped those two.

Why would you say this :(

Not to drop a sad Munk headcanon into the Cats fandom or anything but I keep thinking of a Munkustrap in older age seeing the laugh lines at the corners of his partner(s)' mouth and eyes, and wishing he had more of those and less of the stress lines that vastly outnumber the precious few laugh lines he has of his own.

no context munkustrap drawing I did months ago

I wanted to knit my own monkeystrap arm warmers so I am including you all on my journey making my Munkustrap Munkusleeves ✨

I wanted something as close to the movie version as possible, but I couldn’t make an exact replica because there’s no version of this in high enough definition to see the individual stitches. So I went for a close approximation instead.

I’ve seen a lot of fan-made machine-knit ones with only solid horizontal stripes and no mixing of colors and textures like the real deal has. But they just look clunky to me. Also, I don’t have a knitting machine.

So I did mine by hand, in the round, with a more half-patchy, half-stripey look. I used a thick wooly black tweed and a fuzzy white-gray ombré which I pulled from both ends to get both the white and the gray at once, and then interspersed the three colors sort of randomly.

One done so far. Honestly I thought about giving up because it wasn’t coming out the way I envisioned but then I added in the gray and it tied everything together, I’m really proud of how it came out. Now I just have to make a second one 🫠
